I've been watching Adam West Batman reruns on IFC for the last few weeks and NOW I see where the comparison with B&R comes from. There are scenes from B&R that not just look and feel like the 1966 show, but they are even filmed the same! I actually think it makes the movie entertaining that way.

Definitely. My problem with it is this:

The villains supply the humor. If they were really going for Adam West style, which they were, they failed because Clooney's Batman was not funny. Or Bruce for that matter. The dialogue for him and Clooneys delivery didn't live up to Adam West. Instead im laughing at Arnold, etc. Alec Baldwin should have been cast in this situation. In the 80s he would have made a great Batman in a more serious movie but those days were behind him. He wasnt in the same shape, and we all know Alec's humor, his mannerisms and he still looked like Bruce Wayne. He would have killed it. You have that plus some better writing when it comes to the heroes of the story Batman and Robin and it could have been great. As a campy Batman movie. I think the Batgirl stuff was unnecessary too.

Ill never say that Arnold wasn't funny. It's great stuff if you walk into it expecting a comedy. Some of the Robin stuff is perfect for that style too. But damn they should have made good jokes with Batman. They got the wrong actor and should have brought their comedic chops up for the screenplay.

I just realized that Batman & Robin is a right-wing propaganda movie. I'm pretty conservative myself, and I'm a believer...but this movie takes it too far right!

The villains are all leftists and foreigners:

Mr. Freeze: European global warming fanatic. He wants to "cool" the earth.

Poison Ivy: Anti-human treehugger and feminazi. Wants to destroy all humans.

Bane: Illegal immigrant from Mexico.

Bruce Wayne is Ned Flanders in a batsuit:

- He's rich, and brags about it. Look at the bat credit card.

- His behavior towards Batgirl and Poison Ivy. Just listen that sarcastic remark: "Batgirl? Not very P.C." He even jokes about killing her later.

- He also treats Robin like crap, because he's young. "You can't make the jump!"

- He's afraid of intimacy. "Don't kiss girls, Robin! It's wrong." He gets nervous when Julie Madison mentions marriage, probably because of the wedding night.

- The "just don't point it at my bedroom" line. "Point it at everyone else's bedroom!" And that smile...

- He's responsible for global warming. At the end of the movie, they use the giant telescope to warm Gotham City. Batman smiles approvingly.

- When Mr Freeze delivers the "what killed the dinosaurs? The ice age!" line, he doesn't answer, because he agrees with young earth creationism.

- He approves of torture. At the end of the movie, Mr Freeze and Batman are best pals. They make a deal; if he gets the medicine, Mr. Freeze gets to beat up Poison Ivy in her cell.

And it's not just Batman:

- At the end of the movie, Batman and the two scientists are about to fall to their death. Batgirl asks "what do we do now?" Robin says: "pray!" I'm all for prayer, but that's no excuse for laziness.

Innocent woman: "Help, Robin! I'm starving!"

Robin: "I'll pray for you!"

- What happened to Bane? Robin and Batgirl just left him to die. Disturbing, isn't it?

I don't think it's right to use a superhero movie as a propaganda tool. I'm sick of stuff like this in comic books and movies...

I can understand why they wanted to make a right-wing Batman movie after the socialist Batman Returns, but this? Wow...and I used to like this movie.

I have been saying for years, Alec would have OWNED that role either when Burton was making them or Schumacher was making em he looked the part, I was glad he at least got to do a comic book movie with The Shadow (and he owned that role).

Bane is just as devious & as cunning as a lot of other Batman villains so he'd fit in perfectly except he'd be using BRAINS & BRAWN.

Batman & Robin has by far the best Bruce and Alfred storyline. So damn touching. That scene where Bruce remembers his moment with Alfred when he was a kid along a hallway. God. Though George Clooney was absolutely dreadful in the suit, he brought so much likeability to Bruce Wayne. Bruce Wayne has fully matured from the vengeful man he was in B89, to the man who dons the suit for a purpose. He completely owns that forgiving/softer side of Bruce Wayne. I must say Burton's interpretation of Batman is better than Nolan's(I love his work especially TDK and TDKR) and the way the main character was developed through the films was natural and organic.
