The Official Colossus/Daniel Cudmore thread

actually he looks better in those pics than he did on the movie. The cgi got it worse :p

IMHO I think Colossus looks better not cgi`d just with the suit on...they should have just touched up the eyes and hands with cgi....the armor looks real enough and shiny like his armor is suppose to look...its a shame

Why did they deviate from the look of X2. had they never heard of 'if it aint broke don't try to fix it'

yeah the hair becoming metal sorta makes not too much sense either.

it just looked soo much better in x2!!!

I have a question for all Colossus fans...Who do you blame how poorly Colossus was handled in X3?? Ratner? Writers? Fox? Budget?

Writers. The budget was there, and they used the cgi on him in enough scenes...they just didn't give him anything to say. :o

i adore collosus and daniel cudmore but i felt his part along with kitty pryde's was unnecessary

I think it had to due with time ,buget and Ranter...They would have to cgi almost all his scenes and I`m sure it would be pretty costly to film Colossus vs Juggernaut. I think Ratner decided to to change Colossus`s role in X3 because Cudmore is 6`8 and Vinnie Jones is 6`2 so they would have to use alot of trick photography and cgi, so Ranter cut his role down and made him "he strong silent type" which hurt is charatcer development

I don't have a scan of it, but the pic on the back of the box of the DVD with Cudmore (along with the other X-men) is awesome! You get to see him in pretty good detail.

When people on here complain about Colossus, it's almost always saying that he didn't fight Juggernaut, which is action not characterisation... It would have been good, it didn't have to happen in this movie.

Colossus hasn't had a big part in all three movies, he doesn't have a background that is very relevant in a modern American socio-political sense, so he's never tied into the main story as anything other than a strongman...

And although the effects looked good in X2, they aren't that much different to X3 if you study the images. If you think about it, it would be pretty ridiculous for someone to have armour everywhere except their head, so they decided to be more logical with it. He noticeably gets clonked on the head in the X3 DR sequence, and if he hadn't got armour over his hair, he'd be dead!

The X2 facial effect also looked like a mask, but it just ended at his hairline.

Guy Dyas's idea for X2 was that Colossus had some kind of liquid metal beneath his skin and it formed a protective layer, with the skin becoming transparent. Cool but illogical, since his skin (and head) would be damaged by attack. The concept of a protective armour over his entire body is much more sensible and logical....

kitty never had much of a role in the previous role either and nothing about her character said she had to be part of the cure storyline or the phoenix saga but she was in the movie nevertheless. the same could have been done with collosus- why make him an x-man without a character arc- the movie is named after the x men after all- he deserved as much characterisation as bobby. As for the special effects- it just looked better in X2. i liked how the metal had a muscle texture. in this one it was too smooth-like c3p0's coverings

Kitty was there for two reasons:
1) to include a female mutant whose powers are useful in a battle scenario, as Rogue's aren't...
2) to create a new tension/conflict in the Rogue/Iceman relationship.. a stronger reason for Rogue to be tempted by the cure.

Colossus has had his moments... In X1 he was doing art, and in X2 as well. He was also helping the students in X2. In X3 they stepped up his screentime, gave him a role in the fastball special, but not much else that we saw. You CANNOT give everyone an equal amount of storyline - some people will get more than others. That's the simple fact of a movie with 15 or more characters.

It looked different, for sure. The armour doesn't have muscle texture in the comics though, it's in sections. And armour with a very intricate look would mean expensive CGI. They obviously wanted something more like the comics and more practical, even though the X2 effect looks 'cool'...

1.rogue is quite capable in a battle- watch evo and rogue backstory issues- she was lethal with her touching power in battles. But she wasn't there- i still think kitty is a poor substitute and in the end it wasn't her powers that saved leech is was her brain
2. rogue still had plenty of reasons to get the cure without her.
KITTY WAS IN IT BECAUSE THE WRITERS WERE FANS OF THE CHARACTER.- it wasn't really plot based- they just wanted to find an excuse to shoehorn her in.

comic effects don't always work well on film- halles wig being the best example. they tried giving mystique long hair to look like the comic but it didn't work either. When colossus armoured yup it looked CGI in X2 it looked more realistic. fans praised that effect no end so why change it and be controversial.

uhhh, wasn't Colossus NOT in X1?

he had like a 1 second cameo when the boy was running over the water- he was drawing the grounds

Where are you getting that they obviously wanted something more like the comics? The effects are clearly based on Colossus’ look in X2 . . . muscle striations and all. They just don’t look as crisp or as nice.

. . . and I don’t think the fact that his hair doesn’t armor-up equates to the fact that the skin on his scalp doesn’t armor-up.

that looks like muscle plates for me and in the comics he has plates not a smooth coating of metal

I'm not sure what your point is. The X3 armour does have muscle texture, not as intricate as X2, but it's very similar. The X3 look is a little more like the comics, more silvery, more of an outer shielding.

Indeed, there is musculature showing in the X3 armour, but not as much as appears in the X2 photo (the lighting might be part of the reason here).

I don't think the metal being beneath the scalp is either shown, or logical. So his skin is transparent and can be damaged? And his hair can be damaged and burned off? Surely an outer shielding over the skin makes more sense?

No, that wasn't the reason. Kitty had cameo roles in X1 and X2. They wanted someone who is more use in a battle and whose presence causes tension with Rogue. Which is exactly what we got.

Movie Rogue is nothing like Evo or the comics, so forget that for a start. You are comparing an elephant with a giraffe. The movie version needs to touch someone's flesh and grip it in order to gain their powers, which isn't much use if a bullet is fired, a missile is thrown or a blast of some other kind is fired from a distance.

The X3 effect is similar, maybe not as detailed, so what are you whining about???

Colossus looked cool in X2 but it wasnt true to the comics because his hair didnt metal up...X3 Colossus looked ok but his hair wasnt black when metaled up and he looked really fake in some scenes....they should have just showed Colossus how he looked on the back of the dvd cover....I think he looks awesome there and they would have just had to touch up his eyes and hands with cgi...it would have saved fox some $$$$$

Im glad to find this thread, I am new here, but i wanted to join in your discussion. I really wish colossus had a bigger role in the third xmen movie. I say third because it looks like we will be getting x-spinoffs. I loved it when colossus threw logan, it was great to see him demonstrating his powers. But his appearance for colossus is almost perfect, why not let him do more than just two lines.
ANyway in terms of comic vs movie, i think more comic elements should have been included. Bobby was supposed to be a funny, comic clown. I saw no evidence of that.
Sorry to complain, just thought id share my ideas. :)

I think Colossus should have had some Character Developement in X3..Why didnt they show him as the "bigger brother" to the younger students?
