The Official Contest of Marvels 3 Discussion Thread

OH! And, I forgot to say my kids got me an early Father's Day gift. (Thanks to my mom, of course.) I got a VF copy of Ghost Rider #1. (The 70's comic, not the Danny Ketch one. I have a complete collection of Danny's Vol. 3, and am now missing 23 or Vol. 2. I think Vol. 1 is the more Ghostly Ghost Rider.....which I think I have issue #1 of also.)

Very cool, I normally get a card and breakfast in bed....of course I wouldn't change a thing.

Getting back to movies, just watched Role Models, hillarious movie that had me laughing throughout, and surprisingly a good story. I also watched Liam Neeson in Taken...OMG. He is got to be in more action movies, the guy rocked the **** out of it, but his character made you really sympathize about his life. I won't ruin it for anyone but I definitely recommend watching it.

My little girl is going to see UP this week with her class. But I can tell it would be a good one.

I am not sure if I am sold in watching Drag Me to Hell....

Still need to see Taken

But, yeah, Role Models is ****ing funny. Saw it opening night, and the whole audience was dying.

Same here with Role Models. When I saw the preview, I thought, "Skip it!" But, even the critics were saying how funny it was, and my son wanted to see it. It was definitely a pleasant surprise.

Taken was excellent. It just shows that Liam can make the most of any role he's in. (I just watched him in Love Actually again...another good movie.) I have to watch Darkman again. I saw it in the theaters when it came out, and bought it cheap, cheap, cheap on DVD.

Next movies that come to the theater I want to see:

Land Of The Lost - I'm disappointed that Will and Holly aren't kids; and, not thrilled it's been turned into a Will Ferrell vehicle, taking a comedic approach...but, the previews do look a little funny. I'm not sold, but I know the kids will want to see it. (Will Ferrell...old tv show....not like the original tv show....didn't he already do that and fail with Bewitched?)

The Hangover - The buzz about the film has been huge!!! The studio has already ordered a sequel, and the preview looks hilarious. This is a DEFINITE!

My Life In Ruins - Who knows is Nia Vardalos can do it again? My Big Fat Greek Wedding probably can't be repeated; but, I hold out a small bit of hope.

Away We Go - This looks cute. It's only limited release next week; but, the preview makes me want to go. (It looks like a date film, though. Hard being single and seeing date flicks.)

The following week doesn't look as promising. Taking of Pelham 123 preview hasn't done much for me, and the new Eddie Murphy kid comedy is the same. (Wendy will want to see that one, though. They loved last year's Meet Dave...I think that was the name...and, I have to admit it was kind of a cute film.)

Of course, it's all leading up to June 24th...Transformers 2!!!!

I've just been watching parts of Star Trek again (don't ask how :p) and, man, I need to go see that again. I drove an hour to watch it in IMAX, and I'd almost be willing to make the trip again if it was still in them.

But I can live with a regular big screen. :D

Took the family to see "Up" yesterday in 3-D. I've never seen 3-D so we thought we'd try it. It was neat but not worth the price. I'd rather see it normal. As for the movie itself, it was great. I think they showed a lot of the funniest parts in the previews but it still made for a great movie. We plan on buying it when it comes out.

My favorite was Doug :)

Yes, some of the funniest scenes were in the previews; but, not the heart and soul of the film, which is shown in those early, early scenes..the explanation of why he's taking this grand adventure at such a late age in his life.

This is definitely a film that does not need the 3D effects to enhance the film; but, I still like this new 3D animation over the regular version. It's amazing how well it's done now. (I think the best film that's used the 3D is Coraline. That went above and beyond anything I've seen....Of course, seeing My Bloody Valentine with 3D breasts was kind of neat, too..haha)

I had never seen a movie in 3-D and wasn't sure if I could due to me having some pretty mean moving sickness. It was neat but the movie didn't seem to really have anything that made the 3-D seem special. It just looked nice, which I'm sure it would have looked nice without them. The few things that came out at you was so quick you could barely see it.

But besides the 3-D, the film really was phenominal. And yes, the opening scenes gave the film the emotion to drive it. And I thought Ellie reminded me of Mrs. Incredible :)

Back on topic of the contest though... I gave my opinion on just limiting the end voting comments, which Powder agreed with. What do you and W think of that?

JH, Wieg and I need a decision in our match-up of Magik vs. Pilgrimm. Read our debate, and please make a decision. (The two points is Magik's Soulsword and Magik's teleportation.)

BTW, I'm saving judgement about posting comments for Wieg's decision. As it stands, I think to save any further problems, it's best to just say no comments. After all, by voting for one person, you are saying you like their debate better, right? And, what else can be said? Additional comments can always cause problems, even something like, "I flipped a coin and you won." If it's believed a comment can sway a decision, a comment saying how you believe a certain argument is more powerful for whatever reason can do the same thing. (After all, you are singling out one comment from many, and someone's rebuttal could have effectively rebutted it to someone else, right?)

I don't know...to me it should almost be an all or nothing kind of thing. But, if Wieg says differently, I can go along with it. I just want to take care of any future problems.

I like the comments. And it's hard to say that a vote means you liked a debate better because sometimes that's not true, or there's no debate. Meh, I guess it's more correct to say not getting a vote means they didn't like your debate. :p

The comments also provide valuable information to owners about what didn't work, and what did work. Also things they should include for their character in the next round.

Maybe the trick is to put all comments in spoilers. Since no one should read comments until after voting, the only way someone would see them is by breaking that rule.

Not against Spoilers. I'm okay if we want to give them a shot before putting actual rules over what can be said and what can't be.

Like I always say. When you have to choose between one or the other, always take the third option. ;)

I posted for my two battles.

To be fair to you Powder, I will only post once again if required tomorrow morning. i then resign to the voters.

By the way, I went to see Star Trek again and was surprised to see a few people in the Cinema. It is really very well done and I am excited to see the sequal.

I'll get opening arguments up hopefully tonight somewhere.

By the way guys, the way things are looking it is very unlikely I will get be able to vote this week. I leave in 4 hours to Sweden where I have 6 meetings and then fly from there to Denmark where I have another 5 before I fly back. I seriously doubt that I will have the time to go online. If I do, I will vote but do not hold out waiting for me.

Yes, sir. Enjoy those meetings!

Europe is so wierd and tiny. You guys go country to country like we visit states. That's just so wierd. It's like me saying, "Well, going to Canada tomorrow and maybe hoping down to Mexico the day after." That's just unfathomable to me!

I see Powder and Harlekin are still debating. Get in your closing arguments within the next hour, because in about 2 hours I'll end debating.

Ahh, but we Canadians think similarly of your states. Most of your states are small enough that we can fit half a dozen of 'em or more into one of our provinces.

But then again, Canada IS the second largest country in the world.... lousy Russians.

Just like Texas.

Big. But just not quite big enough. ;)

Hey Wieg, close debates. It is going to be a short voting week if not, well it is already...

Thanks Wieg! I was sitting at home right now, and thought, "OH CRAP!!! I FORGOT!!!"

I blame it on Powder and Harl for their continued debate..haha.

BTW, I finally got to see the movie, "He's Just Not That Into You" on DVD. I will warn all you guys...unless you are in the perfect, perfect marriage, you might want to avoid EVER watching this movie with your significant other. Guys don't come out too good in it, and it doesn't exactly spread good, lovin' cheer.
