As we can clearly see via the poll, it seems pretty even.
I guess those who can do without the trunks are not the minority some would like us to think they are.

They would also be fine with the trunks being left alone. Those that want them gone are the minority. The last time I checked the poll, 86% would not have a problem, or would be very happy if the MOS costume has trunks. All the more reason to keep them, as very few will have an issue with them being retained.

I actually think it will probably be something more like this...

Listen... I'm sure I'll enjoy this movie either way... but I'll enjoy it a heck of alot more if he looks like a superhero and not a ballet dancer's love child with a basketball ;)

not sure how trunks make something look more or less like a ballet dancer. I guess its either ballet dancer or Quailman. Though i do agree that the material looks similar to spiderman's which looks like a basketball but w/e the story is what matters. We can have the greatest suit ever created, but if the story sucks who cares.

Really cant understand why people are complaining about the texture so much. It is one of the best aspects of the costume, imo. Tired of Superman looking like he is wearing really cheap plain Halloween costumes.

I was fully expecting the updated costume to have texture, and I like it so far. Can't wait to see more pictures.

I have no problem with them adding in a visual texture to make the suit look more interesting and less like a unitard... but the dimpled texture makes it look like a basketball or golfball. I prefer a subtler pattern.

I like the texture, just because i said it looks similar to basketball material doesnt mean i dont like it. From all the spidey footage i saw at the con, his suit looked amazing on screen. The texture looked great, and the supes suit looks similar to that.

the SR ssuit try to go with a subtle pattern and it was barely noticeable on screen unless they zoomed in on it. Gotta fill in that open space with something more prominent.

As much as the SR suit gets bashed, you have to admit it had a great texture going on. I really liked the seams on the arms and legs and while I thought the \S/ was FAR too thick, I actually liked the tiny \S/ pattern.

I also liked the boots, though they were too clunky. But the way they closed on the front, which created the classic v notch? That was great.

So far, the only thing I really like about this new suit (really, what can be seen of it) would have to be the boots. They're perfect.

Exactly!
I remember the manips that were paraded around earlier which made the costume look like some Halloween reject that got picked up at a Walmart bargain bin, and have the gall to say it looked cool.
But Snyder and co. got the material down pat. It looks cool. Texture and all, it's convincing and that's what matters.
I can't wait to see the next pic.

I guess that's what's called a Fox News style "fair and balanced" interpretation. :o

I also can't wait to see the next pic! I hope its much clearer as to what is actually going on with the suit. The one thing that the MOS photo has produced is a LOT of speculation as to what is actually going on in this photo.

I'm hoping for more of a straight on cover shot from EW or something.

Hey... only 16% said that the trunks HAD TO GO... and 27% could careless either way.

So if you drop the 27% out of the picture... you have 57% wanting the trunks and a vocal 16% not wanting the trunks. I think that is accurate.

and 100% of the people who voted will see the movie regardless, the question is what do all the nonfans out there think looks better. Those are the people that will decide whether we get a sequel or not. I doubt they care about tradition either.

I bought a box of the movie cards when it came out...one of the extras I got was a piece of the suit. It was really neat to see the work that went into it.

You know, that's not half bad...
And if the poll is anything to go by, we have pretty much a 50/50 split between those who want and those who don't want/don't care

I say keep the trunks. It really is not that big a deal and this movie is the only place where we can possibly get a traditional looking Superman any more. Seeing as how DC have butchered his image.

Come on ZS, give us our traditional Superman... and a picture that shows us all of him :)

No it's not even a tenth bad. It's awful. And this poll says one in six wants to remove the trunks. The rest vote for the status quo.

I just don't see how either of the ones without trunks looks any more realistic or better than the one with trunks. If anything... the make the suit look like a unitard that a ballet dancer would wear.

Remember that this is Superman and it is fantastical (unlike Batman) and if you can accept that a guy would wear a cape and tights...why would you stop believing that he would wear red trunks over top of those tights? Is THAT the line?? "I can belive a guy can fly and I can believe he'd wear a cape... but red trunks are just unbelievable!"

If this was any other superhero, changing up the costume wouldn't be as big an issue... but this is Superman (the first superhero and a pop culture icon) One thing Superman has had since his inception is the red trunks. The tall boots came afterward. The bigger S came later, the long cape came after... the trunks were always there.

Like I said before...his costume is iconic... why change it more than you have to?

Where are these belt idea's comic from? I don't see anything in the original picture that would lead me to believe there is anything like that in the suit at all. If anything, if there are no trunks, it looks like there is a buckle, but nothing else. Could be like the Superman Flyby costume. But I don't see anything close to any of those images in the Cavill picture.

I'll bet. Would that detail show up if you scanned it?

True... but I think you undersell the nostalgic element to Superman. People love Superman like they love Mickey Mouse... They loved him as a kid and remember the old cartoons and toys and movies..and while they will probably not come out and say it... they might find radically changing the costume design might lessen thier nostalgic bond with the character.

I liken it to Mickey mouse having his red shorts taken away and replaced with a T-shirt or something. He is still Mickey Mouse... but he just doesn't look right...
