I would rather have Superman in something like this with out the underwear, belt, and the S-shield. Mine is a very different approach.

I'll say here as I said in the fanart thread...

Okay, I guess I have to deal with the upper part of the \S/ dipping down to the outer edge... Why? I don't know, somebody felt that messing with the symbol that has worked for years would work better if they tweeked it that much....

But for the middle part, the 'meat' of the S to be so fat turns an acceptable shield into a ridiculous one... Especially with no tail...

I'm not delusional, I know I'm b**ching about small details, but it's the small details that they are changing for no discernable reason other than to be different, and it pisses me off.

I'd be a bit more understanding if they made a change based on general public opinion, but that's not the case... The changes being made are largely due to what bigwigs think is popular... Something different...

Underwear on the outside and tights were not popular, but it worked like gangbusters in 1978, cause it's Superman, and you don't f**k with it.

All this speculation is making everyone crazy...... Snyder needs to release a better costume pic. If his intent was to keep everyones attention on the film by leaking little things here and there, he's succeeding. This is going to be one hugely long wait.

They don't need to do anything this far out from release.
They've revealed the suit, pretty much all of the casting (starting to think there's no Lex or Olsen in this movie), and they've got the shield plastered on things while filming out in the public. Why not just release the official logo already?

cause i think more people were worried about shield depth and size

they wanted us to know that the S wouldn't look anything like routh's almost flaccid shield size and ridiculous depth and ridge

i apologize to those who liked it but that symbol was a mountain i had to climb to get over and enjoy the move

And yet the new symbol has almost every element Routh's symbol had, except the size. This is still raised and textured all over. So it's not like it "looks anything like Routh's."

Well hopefully a teaser poster is on the way. We'll see it there probably.

I am getting more and more anxious to see the official shield released by WB

it is raised but flat and it's not 3D like rouths it doesn't have that ridge in the \S/

it looks nothing like rouths IMO

I'm fine with taking out the trunks........

but you HAVE to include the cape and S shield.

without those, it's definitely NOT Superman.......

Yeah, I like that jumpsuit look, but the \S/ and cape are needed for me.
Though I would personally get rid of the yellow pouch belt.

You don't even like the S shield?

I think the "S" letter is too similar to English lettering on Earth and it's unrealistic too me. The one that looks more like a number 8 is better looking to me. But if Superman has to use the armor as part of a family seal it should be much smaller and not so big on his chest. A small armor carved symbol could appear on his left chest, but it looks too silly otherwise. I would not have a cape at all.

WTF. Are you a Superman fan at all? I mean I hate to be the one to ask this but you sound like a guy who wants to change everything about the guy.

Well in that case, either drop the concept of the S being a family crest, or make it less S-like, like the Kingdom Come shield.

But trying to make Superman more and more realistic is like tugging at a loose thread. Where do you stop before the whole concept becomes completely unraveled?

this right here is the prime example with what is wrong with fans these days.

we gotta ditch the trunks because it's unrealistic!
The "S" looks like the English letter S on Earth so ditch it because it's not realistic...so we should just slap the number 8 on his chest because that's so much more realistic...

There is no need WHATSOEVER for realism to be in comic book movies....PERIOD!
It's a mothereffin comic book...it's not real! So what if it looks stupid? Now taking a film serious and being realistic are two completely different things. Do I think Superman needs to be realistic? No. Do I think he needs to be taken serious yet put into a realistic world like he is being done now? Yes. Seeing places in this movie that you would see if you went into a town would be more realistic as opposed to seeing a place called "Gas Station" instead of 7-Eleven or a place called "Hardware Store" as opposed to SEARS. But trying to find a reason for why this character would be in our world is not needed. They just are.

Nolan dropped the ball by putting Batman in a world where he is the only hero. Not a good idea especially if WB is wanting to do a Justice League and World's Finest movie supposedly. Make them serious films but there is no need for realism. I mean nobody dresses up like a bat and fights crime...more so they dress up like a bat and break the law. Men don't fly like birds...so why try and add realism to Superman? To me that whole idea is stupid. Realism is going to ruin comic book movies. Ditch the camp, go with a serious tone if the character calls for it and you'll be successful

No, just the costume and maybe the take on some of the other villains, but the rest is fine with me.

meh.....removing the S and cape from Superman is like removing the Bat and cape from Batman.........or the Spider from Spider-man's costume........

that's their insignia.....their symbol......

He is a postmodern, deconstructionist Superman fan. You know, the ones Kurosawa warns about, the "decons."
It looks like they are here.
And they are after Superman's trunks and cape!!!:wow:

We're getting a pretty traditional costume in MOS so that's all I care about.

And Superman is not wearing armor which is great.

This is going too far. Looking at the implications of superheroes existing in the real world has led to some of the greatest works in the genre.
I agree with your sentiment that wanting something to be realistic is a wholly different thing than treating the material seriously, and I agree that people likely have no idea what they're asking for when they say they want a "realistic" Superman film.....but do not discount realism as an approach simply because it would be disastrous a path for Superman.

Obviously we're both in the no trunks camp, but I'm curious what anyone would find non-serious about the symbol or the cape.
