The Official Costume Thread - Part 4

the problem is that we don't know how they'll be introducing Zod...nor do we know how they'll be utilizing the Phantom Zone if they use it. i can see your argument, 7heBoss, and to some degree i actually agree.....but at the flip side, one could argue that the Phantom Zone acts as a sort of cryopreservation jail. Wiki states "The inmates of the Phantom Zone reside in a featureless state of existence from which they can observe, but cannot interact with, the regular universe." so it could be easily argued that prisoners are kept in a preserved state during their imprisonment.

good news about them releasing a picture. seems to be the status quo now-a-days to avoid negative word of mouth through crappy leaked photos by releasing an official, controlled photo before-hand.

anywho, here's my take on Zod...

zod-concept.jpg

...a lil' uninspired but it's a quickie and this is GENERALLY (pun intended) what i'd like to see.

I'm sorry, Dorky

The pic is beautiful, but there's nothing there that says Zod to me...

Yeah, i was actually thinking to myself, "I wonder how Zod is going to escape from the Phantom Zone... Wait... Maybe they won't even use the Phantom Zone." Then at that point it changes everything.

Though I do have to say, the more I think about Zod, the more I hope that he isn't the main villain... but oh well, maybe michael shannon will make zod awesome

huh, zod suit is kinda difficult to design.

What's the usual depiction of the phantom zone? I've seen a comic cover where Superboy is there, but he's on Earth only a few feet away from his parents, and he's drawn like he's invisible. But then there's others where it just seems to be a featureless void where the prisoners just sortof float around.

that's what i was going for. i don't think there's anything about Michael Shannon that strikes anyone as how Zod has been portrayed in the past. i would love for people think outside of the box when it comes to Zod and his design. it's apparent that they're trying to distance themselves as much as possible from Donner's depiction of Superman and his villains, so there's no reason to think that Nolan/Snyder's Zod would resemble Donner's Zod (which is what most fan designs have been depicting).

besides, i posted a variation of that design where the colors are more muted...and ended up making the design look better suited for Zod.

Personally (despite posting a costume design earlier) I don't see Shannons Zod being a "costume".
I see him as a bitter twisted (all be it) super powered psychopath, who willprobably kill some U.S.general and take his uniform and wear it with pride.. Blood stains and all.

i concede about the colors....muted colors make it look less tacky. i'm just not a fan of DARK colors since it makes it look like most of the renditions of Zod we've seen in movies, tv and comics.

does it still look like he "raided the X-Men First Class costumes"? hehe

Maybe it's the combination of both the colour schemes and the hooded cloaks but I saw those concepts of yours and immediately thought of :-

haha, damn you!!! that's pretty funny. i can assure you that's a coincidence BUT i will say that, even though those costumes look a bit goofy, they DO look like they came from the same era of Superman...especially NoMan.

wha??? why would he do that? personally, i see him as an egotist whose good intentions become extreme and ends up becoming a dictator. he prides being one of the last Kryptonians and glorifies his extinct, but superior culture. in my mind, Zod wearing an Earth suit or succumbing to any Earth-based ideals would deeply offend/insult him.

So does that make my design bad

What if he forces a tailor to fashion a kryptonian uniform for him

If Snyder goes the "phantom Zone" route then Zod will come to Earth as an escaped convict, would he have been inprisoned in his Kryptonian military uniform? Probably not (despite the fact that Donners Zod was) would Zod be happy exploring/taking over this new world while wearing the clothes he was jailed in? probably not.
He sees himself as a general.. THE general.. I feel that upon meeting another general he'll feel the need to become the only one. Destroying the imposter and taking his rightful place at the top of the pile so to speak.

while i find the thought of Zod in a prison uniform appealing, i also don't see why they would need to change Zod's clothes either. he's not being kept in a jail on their planet, he's being exiled from Krypton. of course, this is taking into consideration they use the Phantom Zone at all. it could very much be the case that he's in space on official orders when the planet explodes/collapses/etc.

depending on what he's jailed in, he could very well want to keep his clothes. if he's wearing his military clothing, then i can definitely see him wanting to keep his own identity (rather than stealing someone else's).

but he can do that without having to steal his suit and wear it. regardless of his portrayal, he's not a barbarian who's gonna wear bloodstained, torn clothing. it's uninspired, from a visual standpoint, and contributes less to Kryptonian mythos than if he were to be wearing his own military attire.

i can't see it, and the URL leads to Disney for some reason....but i checked it out on CAC. it's a decent depiction but i believe Smallville has already used it.

got a new idea, went a lot more military looking

Maybe he would wear their equivalent to medals on his cape. They could be something as simple as black or silver bars.
I do think that he could do without a Z on his chest.

^The shield looks like a symbol telling me.... not to do......something.

Yeah but it's not that bad, kind of symmetrical and different it's even feels a little more alien

I don't like the belt though, the color is ok but the design is to much like the returns belt

the more I see it the less I like the S and the hair is backwards like SR was. "WRONG!!!!!!"
Other wize good job :)

I had an idea: What if the belt/waistband served the function of keeping the top half (the shirt) and the bottom half (the pants) together?

The boots, the cape, the shield look great... I'm just not a fan of the hair. I like that you tried to incorporate his real hair but it doesn't quite look the best. Me personally would do away with the slick hair all together. But this is all coming from a guy not putting in the work but there you have it.
