The Official Costume Thread - Part 4

If that's what the real one would look like, once it's actually conditioned to Cavill's body it should look decent.

That and hopefully it won't have that weird rubbery and bumpy texture on the main suit.

The issue I always had with Routh's suit was the material for it and the fact that Routh looked plain weird in the suit. His legs looked more fat than toned. Felt like he was in a scuba suit.

Belt looks terrible and and the boots too. Well, the whole costume looks atrocious!!! :down

I doodled this at work today during lunch. A little better than yesterday's effort, but I'm still not feeling this suit at all:

I dunno. I dont think i'd like it as a live action suit, but i'll wait and see.
I can't help but think the high boots with knee pads are just for the ''cool'' factor..Why would supes need knee pads anyway.

Man, poor Kurosawa is going to have a stroke when he sees this.

I don't have a problem with the new costume, it's not that bad. The loss of the trunks is not a big deal to me, but the collar will take some getting used to though. At least it's not a black Batman wannabe suit or Silver Surfer rippoff. The change is not that drastic to me, and I've seen FAR worse concepts in this thread.

i've seen far worse concepts in this thread, but i've also seen far better concepts....and this a thread that consists mostly of amateur artists.

Very true. I just don't think it's that drastic a change. They really didn't need to change it though.

I am very angry right now and im not that much of a purist like him but Superman`s costume is just something you dont mess with or change it, imo. It already reached perfection. Well, thank god I stopped reading comics a long time ago. But this still pisses me off because it shows how incompetent the people at DC are. Dan Didio needs to be fired ASAP.

i duno if its perfection since people who arent fans usually make fun of the trunks anyways. My only issue with removing them is his costume then looks very plain.

Yeah, I mean the general audience was really upset by the black rubber suit in Batman '89.

Seriously, Burton's Batman design was a far bigger departure than the new Superman costume.

When people think of Batman's look, the image that immediately comes to mind would typically be his scalloped cape, pointy eared cowl and the utility belt. Batman's costume has a lot more freedom to play around with.

When people think of Superman, the image that immediately comes to mind would usually be the S shield, the spitcurl, the blue suit with the red cape and trunks.

You're comparing apples to oranges.

I don't mind the trunks going. I just wished they used The Legion of Superheroes costume. Thats a badass modern costume.

I dont really understand the point of the belt.

Its like giving him laces but no boots.

Man, poor Kurosawa is going to have a stroke when he sees this.

He already commented on the suit in another thread. Surprisingly: his reaction wasn't as dramatic as I thought it would be, but he does hate the new suit.

it might seem superficial, but the whole reboot thing would have gone down easier if they didnt screw up their costumes. but i think with some of these characters, the costume themselves are extremely integral to the characters themselves.

maybe his pants are actually pants and he needs to keep them up.

i dont get why everyone thinks this suit is the movie suit. I have yet to see WB take an exact design from the comics yet.

The new suit sucks but modern comics suck ass anyway. I wouldn't be surprised if this was the costume for the movie. They're ashamed of traditional superheroes and have been for years, so none of this crap shocks me very much.

Only the twits at WB/DC could ruin perfection like Superman's costume.

The upside to the DC reboot is I can drop Batman, Detective, Action and Superman and not care since the numbering will be ruined anyway and my sets of them will be finished. This will save me money in the long run.

As for the movie, I have less interest in it now since the chances of it being anything close to the classic is greatly reduced. The movie costume will NOT have trunks, bright colors, or the \S/ on the back of the cape. It will have something like this new and supposedly Jim Lee designed costume. It will suck. But I'm not up to anger at this point, just acceptance...that the superhero genre as I have liked it is totally and irrevocably dead, and that I will never see the kind of Superman movie that I've always wanted to see. Superman hasn't really existed to me since 1986, but now I feel a dread that there is no hope that they'll every bring back a Superman that resembles what Siegel and Shuster intended for the character to be.

But I could be wrong. I hope I am.

Well, supposedly Morrison will be writing Superman at the relaunch--and I know you like All-Star. I guess whether it pays off or not will depend on how much freedom Morrison has (assuming the rumour of him writing the title is true).

Morrison is the only modern writer I trust with Superman, although he IS a Batman guy first. Maybe they'll get away from the farmboy/Jethro/Clark Kent is the real person crap with this new Superman. I'd like it if they made this Superman the first superhero again, active since 1938. If he's gonna live to be a million years old anyway like Morrison did before, then he would still look young at 90.

I will admit that I'm intrigued since I have no interest in the modern DCU anyway. The real DC to me is Pre-Crisis so this Universe that they are trashing is one that I have never liked or accepted. But I do hate it for the fans of it.

I think you're out of luck there, since Didio is talking about the characters being younger.

I'm reserving judgement until I see exactly how much continuity is changing. I'm currently hoping the answer is "Very little," but with talk of characters being younger, I'm concerned.

This new Superman design looks like it was created by (no offence to manipers/artists here) a wannabe comic book artist who when it comes down to it, just doesn't care about Superman or indeed Superman fans.

It's lazy, uninspired.. Sloppy.

The high collar underneath Clark Kents clothes just doesn't make sense.. Unless of course Jim lee wants Superman to lose his shirt rip aswell.

Giving Superman blue trunks instead of red.. Whats the point? Either get rid of them or don't get rid of them.

The colour of the belt.. Is it red? Is it yellow/gold? Can't really be sure.
if it's red, then BIG mistake. yellow gives balance to the suit, leaving the \S/ as the only point with yellow just doesn't make sense.. It's as if the yellow has been left as an afterthought.

The boots.
We can't see the boots in the image provided but we hear they are bigger boots with kneepads... True they may look "cool" "modern" but... Why does Superman need kneepads? **** it Jim Lee go the hole hog and give the poor bugger a crash helmet while you're at it.

Will thi sbe the suit we'll get on the big screen? I've an awful feeling it is.

You're comparing apples to oranges.

You forgot the yellow oval, which has also caused some controversy over the years....

And leave out the trunks... You think people wouldn't recognize him?

If, next Halloween, I decided to be Superman without the trunks, you really think anyone would question who I was?

I honestly believe the general (non comicbook reading) public would think "He's forgot his trunks"
