Wow, why are all of these deleted scenes so friggin' great? I mean, that's like 20 minutes of footage -- the movie would have made it to around 2 hours length (I doubt much fans would have complained about the running length then) and those scenes add so much more to the movie thematically and structurally.
The only deleted scene I don't like (it's more of an alternate scene) is the alternate version of the X-Men boarding the X-Jet. It just feels overly melodramatic. Logan pushing Iceman around and such. I admit, it gives Wolverine more attitude and Iceman a bit more individiuality, sticking up for himself like that, but it feels forced. Other than that, most if not all of these scenes would've truly benefited the film, besides of course the "Logan returning to Canada" bit and maybe possibly the Phat one -- Colossus killing is a bit extreme. So maybe three of the 24, but still.
I also absolutely loved the alternate version of Rogue not taking the cure. It just fits in with her character and her arc so much better. I really hated that Rogue just chickened out and took the cure in the theatrical version -- her evolution from the first two films, from her fearing her powers, to eventually accepting them, is what made her character so great. And now we have another challenge for Rogue to face, an excellent culminating chapter to her arc, and she totally backpeddles. It was out-of-character, and furthermore out of sync with her storyline and progression throughout the entire saga.
Other than that, these deleted scenes just reaffirm how crappy a director Ratner is -- even though he had three editors working for him, he still couldn't manage to get a proper cut of the footage he shot.
What a shame.
