Just cleaned out Fort Constantine and got me some serious Power Armor that I can't use yet. :oldrazz:

What's the deal with open world games that don't let you continue after the last mission, especially when there's so many other things you can do? It seems silly to me.

Why don't you just start a new character? I think that's what Bethesda is trying to encourage with the level cap and not being able to continue after the end.* By design you aren't supposed to see and do everything in a single play through in Fallout 3. This isn't Oblivion.

*You will be able to continue after the main quest in their upcoming expansion, though.

I just don't see the real reason for it. I get the whole 'go play through it again' thing, but the only reason I would do that is to do all the different choices then I did before, not to enjoy re-finding everything and leveling up again.

It just seems to me, if your going to give me all this stuff, stuff that by design most people probably won't do or find in their playthrough, let me continue exploring once the main story is done with my beefed out character. Prince of Persia is like this too, so you have to find all the light seeds before you finish the story. Mass Effect did this too, but at least with ME you could start a New+ game with all your stats and inventory.

It's not a big complaint or anything, I just would prefer that free roam games, with loads to do, let you continue to free roam after the main story is done and let you see it all.

I've started multiple characters on Oblivion and Morrowind, so it's not like allowing users to continue after the main quest is done discourages that. If I could continue after the main quest is over, I would probably do the main quest a bit faster instead of doing one mission for it and then stopping for a couple days to do only side quests, which sort of takes you out of the role-playing aspect of the role-playing game. I mean, I would think my character would want to find his father more than wander around the wasteland looking for scrap metal and Sugar Bombs to trade to various people or helping random people settle their grudges with a spot of good ol' assassination, but if I'm not able to do those after I've done the main quest, how can I not break character and do them now? Kind of a flaw in the game's design, if you ask me.

But if they're rectifying it with the expansion, never mind. When's the expansion supposed to be coming out, by the way?

So, what did everyone name their character? Mine's named Monkeyface Jones. Pulling those contracts off the Talon mercs is always fun for me. :)

Mines a blonde chick named Starbuck......
I just went through Tranquility Lane and that was ****ed up beyond all ****ed up-ness

HAHA good names!!

So does your name have any effect on how people react to you and stuff like that?

Next time I play through my name will be "Sheep ****er" or something like that

Yeah, I think I'll include curse words in my next character's name. She's gonna be super-evil since my current guy is good, so I'll probably give her a name like "Calista the C***" or something.

and I will repeat....get Lincolns Repeater....Its on the second floor in the Museum of History....it can be repaired with regular hunting rifles and takes .44 ammo....the things a ****ing hammer

I finished the game twice: first time, clean. Second time, with lotsa cheats, and more wandering around (found the Oasis and other rare places I hadn't see before). Great game  best of the year (though I only played two 2008 games, heh :hehe:)

I intend to get Lincoln's Repeater, but I'm still working on the Survival Guide and one of the missions says you have to go to the Museum of History anyway, so I'll get it then.

Edit: Never mind, I just looked it up and it's the Arlington Library you have to go to, not the Museum of History. I'll go get Lincoln's Repeater tonight.

Corp when you walk into the Museum - Underworld (where the regular Ghouls live) is straight ahead and the museum proper is to the left, it's filled with ferals so bring ammo, go up the first set of stairs....and there is also a Glowing One (feral) that heals the others....the rifle is in a room with a turret in the ceiling, go up another set of stairs and through a hole in the wall, its in a display case in the back left cubicle, along with a Chinese attack manual that gives you +2 sneak

I totally missed that Lincoln Repeater

a friend of mine told me about it. and he came across it by accident

well, maybe next time (someday--I'm not playing it again soon :hehe:)

Reading guides has made me realize I miss stuff all the time. I apparently walked right by the bobblehead in the Museum of Dave when I went there. :o

Easy as pie. Charon'll take care of several of the feral Ghouls for me, I'm sure. :)

I don't even have Charon....did you buy his contract or kill Carol??

Bought it. I had like 5,000 caps by then anyway, and I'm playing a good character so I didn't want to kill some poor, unsuspecting girl just for being popular. I kill enough people as it is (like Dukov, whom I killed to get his key even though I didn't have to because he's a *****e).

how are you getting so many caps?....I've never had more than 500 at any given time....

I pick up virtually everything I find and sell them. Also, if you ever meet up with Reilly's Rangers and get Reilly's mapping quest, she'll give you tons of caps for every location you find, including ones you've found before she hired you to do it. I got something like 2180 caps for all the locations I'd found on the map before ever meeting Reilly.
