The Official Flash thread - Part 1

Wonder Woman and Cyborg have 2 dead parents? Wonder Woman's only had Hippolyta until recently when Zeus entered the picture, right? They're both alive right now two unless I forgot something. And Cyborg's Dad is around quite a bit in the new Justice League. I don't know about before Flashpoint.

Hal's Dad died when he was a kid and his Mom died during Secret Origin.
well see there you go, i was wrong about hal and cyborg.

but hold firm that wonder woman currently has 2 dead parents.

It still astounds me that a ****ing rookie writer/artist in Francis Manapul could write a more likable and endearing Barry than Johns ever could.

He's a better writer than Geoff Johns at this point.

Read Cary Bates' Barry Allen and he's the nicest guy in the world, easily the most likable member of the JLA along with Superman. And his Wally West was the same way. Bates even wrote Barry off into the sunset, and Wally could have taken over, but instead DC forced Wolfman to kill Barry, which made him a martyr and made his return inevitable. What Bates did with Barry was a dry run for the happy ending Jack Knight got.

If I ever get around to writing my fan fiction DC Multiverse where COIE never happened, Barry will give Wally the ring and live in the future with Iris.

A 20-year gap between death and return doesn't strike me as "inevitable." It seems more like everyone was fine with Barry being dead until Johns came along wanting to recapture his childhood.

This and Aquaman are the best books of the re-launch. Manapuls paneling is ****ing beautiful.

Johns wasn't trying to recapture his childhood, he doesn't even know much about Barry Allen and his childhood as a comics reader was in the Post-Crisis era. Geoff Johns doesn't know **** about comics history or continuity. His characters that he calls "Barry Allen" and "Hal Jordan" have nothing to do with the real things.

And no, not everyone was fine with Barry being dead because not everyone was happy with the entire COIE crapfest period. They kept Barry dead as long as they did because they knew bringing him back would get a big reaction and make them lots of money, not because Johns gives a **** about Barry Allen as a character. He doesn't even know or understand the character.

**** Geoff Johns.

I'd have rather with the new 52 they created a new Flash and GL like they did in the 50's. Preferably a chick GL and a Russian Flash cuz, you know, whatevs.

I could've gotten behind new characters. Definitely would've been better than stepping back a generation and then turning the characters into awkward shadows of themselves anyway.

i like barry right now. i will like this book less if patty dies. not because i like her, but because barry's already got 2 dead parents, we don't need a dead girlfriend too.

Well, he's got that fine Iris 'tang waiting for him. I'm sure he'll be fine whenever Patty inevitably dies.

Whoever the f*** Patty is. I don't read that s***.

then **** you. the flash is the best title dc's got atm.

i wish wally just existed right now. i refuse to read anything featuring kid flash till wally is back.

but as we've established here, adult flash basicly is a new character. he just has a familar name, supporting cast, and got rebooted a couple of years before everyone else.

Well, his new name ain't Wally West and his supporting cast doesn't include one plucky Korean-American reporter named Linda Park, so f*** 'im.

so the girlfriend's race and the hero's name are what's keeping you out of the book :(

i was hoping it was the whole family aspect of wally you wanted back. that's what i'd like

I have to agree there. It's tied for me between Flash and JL Dark. I've been really disapointed in Snyders Batman as well. For someone who did so well on Detective he's not doing anything to impress me now. Then again that Might be the lack of Jock...

I kinda feel like Johns and Corp are opposites of the same coin. :o

In any case, I like Patty a lot for some reason. Barry can continue to tap that for a good long time as far as I'm concerned.

You like Jock that much?

I'm not much of a fan myself. Capullo is a lot better, IMHO.

Minus the vitriol, you're right.

I mean, if you look at what Johns has done, and the DCnU in general, nothing about it says retro or classic. Johns isn't trying to recapture anything, he's just doing whatever he wants.

Oh yeh, Jock's work on Detective really matched with the story Snyder was telling. Plus his covers were amazing.

I've always loved his covers. His interiors kinda leave me cold. I actually started liking the backup artist more.
