maybe you misunderstood, they weren't sidekicks, they were partners. Equals, someone to share the burden with.
I think we're getting a little off-topic here, but I feel that they
were sidekicks - and that's not a bad thing. Robin, Kid Flash, Aqualad, etc. They were
all sidekicks. I'm not disputing their respective roles, purposes or dedication, but they all at one point or another lived in the shadows of their mentors; something that Wally even struggled with. When talking to the newest team of Teen Titans, Wally commented that when he was Kid Flash, we was very eager to have Barry's approval. Wally said, "Yeah, I
wanted his approval for so long. But then I wrote that
letter." He went on to say, "I had hoped that one day I'd get Barry's approval. Guess I didn't realize I
always had it."
I'm not disputing their partnership(s) or shared burdens, but the junior partners have always resided in the shadows of their mentors at some point or another in comics (and in popular media).
I have so much respect for Wally West that I just don't want him to be treated as a second-tier character in the movie(s). I want him to have the purpose and conviction that we've talked about. That's why I really want to see
him be the one to save Barry. The audience will have respect and interest in him and I think it would make him just
that much more appealing. I just don't want him thrown in there to be featured in a sequel. I'm not saying he has to be used the way I suggested, but I would really like for the filmmakers to use him to his fullest and make him a character the audience wants to see more of - not just "another hero" to up the sequel. He's
not just another hero; he's an integral part of the The Flash legacy and should be treated like one
