Wolverine is a part of X-Men. The Flash is a solo hero. Stupid to compare them the way you do.

I know he's a solo hero, but he's in the ****ing Justice League, Stupid!
BTW, Wolverenre was a solo hero, too, with his own book.

no need to call someone stupid.

And really Flash doesnt need the JL like Wolverine needs to be in the X-Men. Wolverine may be a great solo character but he is still defined as a X-Men character moreso than Flash is a JL member

That doesnt mean anything.
While I do think they should put out more solo movies, JL should be low down on their list. Rushing into JL just to compete with Marvel is just a bad decision

Even if they should put out movies to compete with Marvel why should it be JL. Why not the solo ones first

I only pull out the dagger when someone else does, Blackman

BTW, I'm not the only one who thinks DC should rush JL into prodution, I have a lot of comrades in this site.

"Dagger"? :whatever:

And I know youre not the only one who thinks JL should be next. That still doesnt mean much

Indeed. DC still needs to do a Flash film, a better GL film, an Aquaman film, and yea probably Wonder Woman.

Wolverine became a solo hero with his own book, something he did not have until after being on the X-Men for nearly a decade.

I like this thread... okay, a few things.

On Flash being a one-trick pony

http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Wally_West#Powers_and_abilities

On Berlanti

A big part of GL's failure is the studio interference in the editing room. I'm not pronouncing doom on Berlanti until I see the director's cut, see what he actually wrote vs what was given to us. That said, it does sound like he has the tone wrong, and I'm just not excited about silence of the lambs Flash.

On tone

Star Trek 2009 is perfect. It has fun being serious. Often movies and people will take their work seriously without taking themselves seriously. Trek takes itself completely serious, and has fun along the way. That's how Flash should be, it should have fun because of who the characters are, not because of the situation or world. Captain America tries to make fun of itself with its situation, and so the fun doesn't carry through the whole movie. Thor has fun as a character, and so it carries through the whole movie. (Don't worry, Cap had other strengths).

Making the film a parody, or a cartoon, where Flash forgets about how fast he is so that Trickster can potentially get the drop on him is a bad idea. If the audience can ask "why doesn't he just..." the movie becomes a joke, even though the situation is common and forgivable in comics.

On Faithful Adaptation

Batman Begins was absolutely *not* a faithful adaptation of the comics. People seem routinely distracted by how good it was and forget that the ages, relationships, vehicles, brand new characters, were all brand new for the film. Don't even talk about the costume. Iron Man comes the closest, but even his relationships were radically altered. I certainly didn't see any Chessmen with Stane. We'll not even get into Justin Hammer.

These are not faithful adaptations, by any means, beyond tone, perhaps. They're just great movies. No one is doing faithful adaptations, except for Zack Snyder in Watchmen, and we saw how that turned out.

On Grodd

I think it *can* be done, but you really have to set up a universe and walk that line of whimsy well. Do it the same way as Rise of the Planet of the Apes is doing their smart apes. The bare fact is, somehow people know that the gorillas mouth cannot form our words, and when you bend a gorilla's mouth like that, it looks cartoony.

On Sam Raimi

Actually quite inspired.

On Casting

The idea is to produce that kind of perfect but not expected casting that got us RDJ, that got us Keaton Batman, if you will. Ryan Gosling is a bit obvious, now with Drive coming out, but it has that same sort of tint to it. This an actor that consistently makes the films he's in awesome, and still can carry the superhero physique. To me, Bradley Cooper would just be Chris Evans/Chris Hemsworth casting. They can do the job, but that can't carry a movie by themselves. Cooper still needs a DeNiro to carry a film. Once you have a headliner, add in a serviceable and attractive female lead, and experienced seasoned supporting cast, and have a blast.

Barry Allen - Ryan Gosling
--- > James Franco would also knock this one out of the park
Iris West - Minka Kelly (good choice, guys)
---> Jenna Fischer might be a fun alternative to create a comedy duo of the couple, it would be fun and unconventional.
Albert Desmond (Dr. Alchemy) - Joaquin Phoenix, if he's still acting... lol
Digger Harkness (Captain Boomerang) - Eric Bana
Wallace West (*not* yet Kid Flash) - Max Records (Where the Wild Things Are)
Detective Jared Morillo - Terrance Howard

On Story

Keep it light, but do throw the CSI in there to make it 'serious.' Bright bold colors in the cinematography, for instance. Barry is the slow guy, can't get it together at work, very bright, trouble getting anything done, his relationship, his house is a mess, all played for sad laughs. He's in a rut, and can't solve this Boomerang Killer case. He manages to save Albert Desmond from getting his by a bus, a scientist for local corporation ThawneTech, and gets mentored, even gets help with his case. Boomerang killer case escalates. Desmond eats with Barry, his fiance, her nephew, offers them a tour of his lab. On that particular day, while Desmond is showing off the prototype for a science-based philosopher's stone that simply works too slowly, very bad weather happens, and the lightning hits the chemicals involved in the stone, speeding up Barry, overspeeding Wally into seizures, and making the stone work in a relatively useful time frame. Barry confides in his best friend Albert Desmond who helps test and benchmark his abilities, and creates a suit, and gives him the compact ring-suit technology that ThawneTech hasn't figured out how to market. Barry becomes Flash, stops petty criminals, becomes a bit of a celebrity.

From there, the movie moves pretty briskly. Wally stays sick, recovering from chemical burns, Barry and Iris get closer, and Desmond, whose device is now a stone, and also working much quicker. The Boomerang case leads to some confrontation. Desmond's experimentation goes really bad, but he feels like he's riding the edge of science, learning about space and time and relativity first hand. Flash wants him to stop, he refuses. He defeats Barry. Barry mopes for a few minutes, gets some pep talks, from Wally, whose just awoken, takes down Boomerang and then faces off with Dr. Alchemy once and for all. Flash sabotages the device with speed, thinking Alchemy will let go, but he doesn't. They used to be friends, sad, sad. Wally comes home, Barry proposes to Iris "I would ask do you think we're moving too fast, but..." and things are happy in happyville. Post credits, Snart breaks out of prison, leaves a Flash symbol behind to indicate his next target.

On Sequels

Rouges for the second one, as career criminals that steal cutting edge tech from ThaneTech and go about Captain Cold's mission though with divergent agendas, and a whole lot of interpersonal intrigue. Captain Cold just wants to be a supervillain. Zoom and Grodd for the third one. Both characters are from the future.

Captain Cold - Paul Giamatti
Heat Wave - Jason Statham
Golden Glider - Jennifer Lawrence
Weather Wizard - Josh Brolin
Captain Boomerang Jr - Liam Hemsworth

Eobard Thawne - Woody Harrelson
Gorilla Grodd- Andy Serkis + Dennis Haysbert

Maybe I'll edit pics in, I dunno... -shrug-

The emphisis is more on the fact that DC needs to come out with Justice League, ASAP, and the Flash is a tent pole of that team.
No, they shouldn't rush things. Warner and DC must take it easy and let projects take the time they need. Solo films first, with Flash as the most important of them all by now. And then a Batman reboot along the way, to build up for a World's Finest (same world as in Man of Steel, not a new Supes).

Rush, as in put on the front burner, not haphazardly rush the production of JL.

I don't see why DC has to compete with marvel considering the batman franchise alone has probably made more than what cap, thor and iron man have made combined.

Call me crazy for this and I know this may be a bit of typecasting but I can kinda see James Franco as Barry. I mean he's not my choice and yes I know he already played other characters in other superhero movies but just bare with me. I think they should cast someone that's well known but wasn't expected out of the blue, kinda like Keaton and Reynolds.

For my Flash movie, I either don't cast any A-List household known actors or just one if I do. It's no secret that I want a Wally West movie. For that movie, I cast a younger actor with comedic charisma combined with the ability to simple emote well for anything. And oscar caliber like Christian Bale isn't needed. I then surrounded that actor with a cast of top notch actors that have some recognition, but not like an A-List stay but for known acting ability or a cult status. Actors like Peter Krause as an older Barry, Michael Biehn as Jay Garrick, Amy Acker as Tina McGee because that would be the initial love interest for Wally at first while also having a Linda Park cameo. Linda Park would be my Linda Park. Though, while Wally may be a younger than here, I would consider putting Yunjim Kim in the role and play it off like Wally has a thing for women older than him, just a thought. My villian would be a combination of the first and third Reverse Flashes, the Rival and Hunter Zolomon. My choices for the role would be Michael C. Hall or Jim Cavizael, who I can see wanting to play a villian as an F-you to being tpecast as Jesus and finding hardly any work because of it. Hall is just awesome. Moira Kelly is Iris Allen and a cameo of John Wesley Shipp as Wally's father would happen.

Green Lantern tried doing this, but I blame the bland script and CGI for killing it. So I would hope my idea works.

The hardest role for me to cast is Wally. Michael Rosenbaum and Joshua Jackson were my top two choices for Wally. But they are just too old at this point unless they could be made to look younger provided someone keeps an eye out for aging further and the magic wearing off. My favorite candidate now is Adam Brody, but I can already hear the groaning. Trust me people, he can nail the role easily. Quick wit that isn't forced, charisma, he is girl crazy, and he can emote more than most know.

FYI, If I had to make a Barry Allen movie, Ben McKenzie is Barry. The dude needs a superhero role. He will nail it. Then I cast hot ass Emmanuelle Chriqui as Iris West. She needs this kind of role as well.

I like Ben McKenzie, but not for Barry. He doesnt have that warm personality. He just gives off a very stoic vibe in the roles Ive seen him in.

I say Scott Porter or Dustin Milligan for Wally

McKenzie definetly has a stoic vibe. No denying that. But, I have seen him give off a warm, goofy vibe. Those moments are few and far between on the O.C., but the nature of his character didn't allow for that much and neither does Southland. But I have seen it, and it's radiant in interviews. Look some up on youtube. McKenzie has the white knight type in him, the kind of guy that comes across like he can make everything ok. And his wit is a combination of deadpan speaking and goofy mannerisms. I could even entertain the idea of McKenzie playing Wally West. I know Barry is the pure deadpan character, but it could work with Wally because of said mannerisms. McKenzie has the range I want in Wally, he has an excellent ability to emote as well and thats necessary for a passing of the torch story with the tone of Abrams Trek. My biggest worry would again be his age, just like Joshua Jackson and Michael Rosenbaum.

Scott Porter I like, but I don't know if he could pull off the humor of Wally or emote enough for the role like I want. Not a knock on Porter, I swear, but he just strikes me as Barry Allen. Milligan I am even less sold on. Granted, I could be wrong because all I have to go on is 90210. So please do correct me in that event. However, from what I have seen on 90210, a horrid show that I watched out of morbid curiosity, I noticed Ryan Eggold. I think Eggold has true talent and could be Wally. Flame away, but their are always one or two pieces of real talent that start out on those 90210 type shows, a raunchy comedy, or in some horror movie. I would atleast give Eggold a screentest for Wally.

"Great" was the word that popped into my head.

It was closest to the comic and just happens to be my favorite DC movie.

There is at least one more person in this world who thinks Devon Sawa should be Barry Allen. But where can I find him?

try looking in the corner, over there.

no over there, further!!!!

thats better
