Yes, he has one of those anime-esque noses. There's really no one else of A-grade stature in Hollywood that I can think of who would fit the bill for Goku more accurately.

An unknown would have been the only other option.

Yes I think Chatwin is a good choice and can grow into the role as the franchise expands.

Although I did post that picture comparing Goku and Chatwin (Sorry it seemed funny as I was planning out the joke. ). Those who bash Justin Chatwin on being to scrawny/skinny! I say to them Goku wasn't all that muscular during his teenage years nearing the end of Dragon Ball. If they happen to make a sequel then I believe everyone has the right to have the expectation that Justin Chatwin will work-out/train to reach a good Physique.

Chatwin has my full support, because he does seem dedicated. He even looks the role. The main actors so far have pleased me, in that they are willing to put forth effort in the preparation.

Exactly! Why anyone would care that the actor isn't Japanese, beats me. Goku wasn't even human

i always imagined Goku as the Asian version of Superman. America has Superman, Asia has Goku. i always thought of it that way. as an Asian, it's sort of a kick in the nuts when they cast a white guy for a character that many (not just myself) feel is supposed to be the Asian equivalent of Supes. i know most Americans won't have a problem with it, but every DB movie thread i've gone to on other sites has had several people say something along the lines of "isn't Goku Asian? why is he being played by a white guy?"

as for those arguing against Goku being Asian because he's an alien...don't you think the same would/could apply to him being Caucasian? if you're saying he can't look Asian because he's an alien then what's to say aliens look Caucasian? the "alien" card as an argument against why he shouldn't look Asian also applies to why he shouldn't look Caucasian. if the logic is that he shouldn't look like any Earth race then he should either look like a mixed race or inhuman.

Great point. This didn’t go unnoticed with me, either. The only thing we know for certain, beyond any shadow of a doubt, is that Goku’s skin is white, or tan. Fitting of either asian or caucasian ethnicity.

Really…the only explanation I can think of is that caucasians are the dominant ethnic group of the world. And by dominant, I mean most widely seen and dealt with. I couldn’t say they have the highest populace, because I think the Chinese have us beat there, heh. Especially in Hollywood, there are the most well-known caucasian actors, per capita, than any other ethnicity.

So, I guess when it comes down to deciding the ethnicity of an alien character in fiction, unless explicitly stated otherwise, they’re labeled caucasian by default.

That's the only logical reasoning I can think of to explain it away.

Though I doubt that is what Fox was thinking.

I know growing up I always imagined Goku and Bulma being white with Roshi, Krillen, Chi Chi and Yamcha being Asian.

Goku looks white in the cartoon. I never thought he looked asain at all. If he looked asain in the cartoon or manga then they should definately getting an asain actor, but he looks white. I always wondered why asains drew dragonball with the main characters being white instead of asain.

Chi chi definately looks asain, not Goku or Bulma. Yamcha actual looks middle eastern or indian.
