The Official Goku/Justin Chatwin Thread

This is a dumb idea & everyone will agree that Goku won't be dying in this movie.

Well, originally the dragonballs could only revive a person once.

They had better not change the canon of that either. If someone (I could see Goku dying in the next movie... not this one) needs to be revived more than once: Gohan, Krillin, and Bulma had better be boarding a shuttle to Namek.

I want to them to keep relatively close to the series.

"If it ain't broken, don't fix it!"

Agreed, which is why this idea is the dumbest yet. I've heard some good ideas but this.....this makes me want to put a bullet in my head.

invincible person being hit by a car? seen it before...

...i wanna see some lightning speed fights. THAT hasn't been done yet.

Of course that's what I want to see aswell. I gave the idea they could film all the fast fight scenes slow. Then edit them to make it look like they're fighting fast.

I can't wait to see how this guy does as Goku on the big screen. I just hope he does justice to the character. I've been a big fan of the series for along time, my favorite character is Gohan. But Goku is my second favorite character and I want to see him done right.

I think Chatwin has potential. I like the way he looks on the set pics we had. But I really want to see how they nail the gi. I also can't wait for the trailer, which of course, i'm sure i'm not the only one.

I agree, we need to see how the gi look. He should have an orange gi for this movie, black for the Saiyan saga movie, blue for the Freeza saga, Saiyan armor for the Cell saga movie, & back to orange for the Buu saga movie.

This would be waaaayyy to early for Goku to die.

If he was to ever die on film, it would have to be in
the last movie

No, he needs to die in the Saiyan saga movie & in the Cell saga movie like in the manga. It'd be the right thing for Wong to do.

His death would make a great set-up for a follower movie. That's the thing... think of Han Solo in ESB (they aren't too comparable, but you get the idea). ;) The whole third movie, or first two acts would be about finding a way to resurrect Goku and Piccolo, etc. ... the journey to Namek, encountering Freeza, etc.

I also foresee a possible love interest beginning in the third movie between Bulma/Vegeta... since it isn't the television series, and they do have to consolidate a lot of the plotpoints and timelines.

Well, I wouldn't want to really see that. He needs to stay alive in this movie & in the next movie he should battle Vegeta in which the movie ends with them finding out about Namek & all that which would set us up for another sequel. I don't think it's wise to make Goku die when he's not supposed to.

Here's the way I'd do it if Goku had to die in one of the movies: 1st movie - Dragonball; Goku's early days. 2nd movie - Dragonball Z; the Saiyan Saga, with Goku perishing at the end - 3rd movie - Dragonball Z; Freeza Saga with prime plotpoints meshed into one movie (with setup to Android Saga at the end).

And that's just if Goku were to die in the theoretical trilogy... without messing things up terribly and deviating way off from the manga/anime.

That said, it'd make things easier just to keep him alive as long as possible, but there needs to be a death that sets things up for the Freeza Saga.

I don't have to see King Kai to be happy with these adaptations. ;)

Yeah, I think the orange gi would be best for the first movie.

Yep, I figured that they could switch up everyones attires for each movie.

I don't even like King Kai, he's more annoying than anything else, especially with his temper. I was expecting Goku to just tell him to piss off but he's too kind hearted for that. Anyway, we do need to see at least one death. And if we get a Broly movie instead of a Buu saga movie, he shouldn't die at the end of the Cell saga movie.

Not only is he a horrible pick, but it would help if they actually stuck to the storyline. Why do they need to make up characters?

He's not a horrible pick. Have you seen any of the scenes filmed to properly judge? None of us have so we can't say he's a good or bad pick, all we can say is give him a chance.

I actually think that they can skip the whole Raditz bit and jump straight to when Vegeta and Nappa arrive. Of course, they could even change it to a full-scale invasion to add more story to it.

As for the resurrection limitation, I actually think they should leave it out completely, as in make it so that people can't be resurrected by the Dragon Balls. This would make the fights that much more tensed. And should they need to resurrect anyone, that's when they introduce the Namek storyline.

No, that'd be dumb because Goku needs to die in battle & train with King Kai to become stronger. That's another dumb idea.

That'd be unacceptably discarding a fundamental aspect of DBZ.

I want to see what progress Chatwin has made since he's been hitting the gym. I'm pretty sure he's really toned by now.

He dies a trillion times in the cartoon, so I dont see why not.

I can't even believe he suggested such a dumb idea. Leaving out that aspect would be a surefire way to make this movie a failure.

But it might be a necessary change (especially if they have Grandpa Gohan in the movie). Otherwise, the fight scenes might lose their intensity if the audience are aware that anyone who dies will be simply be revived.

The reason this plot device existed in Dragon Ball was to allow Akira Toriyama to show off how bad ass the villain is by killing major characters without having to modify the cast lineup. And in later episodes, it allowed the fights to go all out bombastic, blowing up whole cities, etc without repercussions. While working and in fact necessary for a long-running television series, it isn't needed quite as much for a few movies.

It wouldn't be a necessary change. That is literally the dumbest idea I've heard in these forums yet. You should just be quiet now, you're embarrasing yourself.
