i said Reeve was undeniably handsome and Chatwin not so much. that means Chatwin is DENIABLY handsome...and for every teenage girl who would disagree there are probably 5 who would agree with me. he's not exactly heart-throb material the way Leo DiCaprio was when he was 25.
even with a science fiction twist, it will be hard for people to accept this guy as a bona fide hero. yes, with special effects of course ANYONE can look like they can punch through a brick wall with no problem but it's harder for people to accept it if the person doesn't look like they can actually do it.
the muscle suit was no more than half an inch thick and it used only to give the suit definition. since the outer material squeezes muscles, you lose definition...hence the muscle suit. as for Brandon's training, he had at least 5 months to get in shape for Superman and considering his appearance before he was cast, he gained quite a bit of muscle.
the problem with that is that they shouldn't have to rely on the "alien" explanation, alone, for his power. the more you back up your argument the more believable it is. if you only provide ONE reason then it's not as good as TWO reasons. him being an alien would be one reason, him having a decent physique would be TWO reasons. it's like saying "Kratos doesn't NEED to be muscular, he would have his powers regardless of his body because he's the God of War!" i find it ironic that James Wong cast a caucasian actor as Goku as a means to appeal to the Western audience more, but didn't realize that Western audiences also like their heroes to be buff and tough. i'm not saying Goku HAS to be super built or uber muscular, but the least they could've done was given Goku a DECENT body. unfortunately, Chatwin doesn't even have that. my beef isn't that Goku isn't muscular.....it's that Chatwin is so skinny.
