The Official Goku/Justin Chatwin Thread

Well here's what I'll say about that. In that movie they didn't really want to talk about that there were many things about the traditional Japanese culture that were morally and philosophically wrong. Like the discrimination against citizens and women.

A white guy saving Japan and being the last samurai.
i think you're forgetting my original point. DB is a franchise that started off in Asia and it's basically Asia's baby. people from around the world like DB, but the roots of the fanbase are in Asia. Fox has taken that and injected a HEFTY amount of American ideals into a movie based on an already established series that is VERY Asian. they've taken an Asian product and made it stupidly American.

that's different from what the Last Samurai is...which is an American product about Asian culture. the Last Samurai wasn't a franchise, it was an original movie. it's kinda like the Forbidden Kingdom, which was also well recieved in Asia despite the main hero character being a Caucasian. that, also, was an AMERICAN film about Asian history and culture.

so again, and for the last time, there is a difference between taking an already established franchise, that Asians have an intimate relationship with, and changing much of the aspect in order to appeal to Westerners and creating an original Hollywood movie that depicts Eastern culture in a way that feels genuine.

regardless of our points, i think we're just going to have to disagree...because it seems we're talking about 2 different things.

Well, here is what I will say.

Making it DRAGON BALL and not DRAGON BALL Z was a huge mistake from a marketing standpoint. DBZ is the more marketable franchise here in the US. Dragon Ball was NEVER as popular as DBZ.

And then adapting the DB stories was a huge mistake as well.

However, if they started with DBZ it still would've flopped, especially under Fox.

Agreed.

The movie hasn't even opened here yet and already you're saying it flopped. Jesus christ, it's just as bad as the people who haven't even seen the movie yet but act like they have.

With all the information available now it's pretty safe to say that not only is the movie awful it's going to bomb when it comes out next month. You'd have to be delusional....

You seriously believe this movie will be good? u serious, man?

It's definitely a flop here in Japan. Having seen it myself, I can see why.

Paramount needs to make DB-Z

look at the budgets for GI joe,TF,star trek,.....

Ballmer if by some reason this movie does better than Watchmen, I will admit it, so there.

Well if you've seen the final fight, the climax to the film, the final chapter, the moment everyone's been waiting for, you have to wonder, if its worth sitting through the other 79 mins of the film.

This is totally the wrong thread to discuss this but I have to oput my 2 cents in... I think WB and Legendary Pictures would have given us the DB we deserve.... they for some reason aren't afraid of the source material which makes the the best studio for the job.... especially since they are buddy buddy with Synder who would have also given us the DB we deserved... but alas we probably won't see a reboot of a long time... also..... Chatwins was very Meh as goku.... from what I've seen.. there were tiny moments where he captured goku... and for the most part he didn't :csad:

It was one of the WORST movies I have ever watched or at least one of. It goes down in history in the same category as Street Fighter The movie, Street Fighter: Legend of Chun Li, Dead Or alive. Mortal Kombat Annihilation, Batman and Robin, Original Fantastic Four, Captain America 2, Blade Trinity, Punisher Warzone, Masters Of The Universe, TMNT 3, etc...

THIS WAS BAD FOLKS!!!!!!!

REAL BAD!!!!!

Good point. It's bad enough that the final battle lasted for 5 minutes.

I still say Chatwin was the victim here....
Good/Decent actor under terrible director and script...

Whats the point of even having a Dragonball forum if you people do nothing but bash the film 24/7?

There are plenty here with a positive outlook, too. Though, i expect that to change, and soon.
