Spider-Man The Official "I Loved Raimi's Spider-Man' Thread - Part 1 of 99 Luft - - - - Part 13

It makes sense to me that the Raimi films did the best; there's more of a nostalgia factor there. And, of course, it doesn't hurt that those films hold up.

Spider-Man 3, for all its faults, never betrays any of the characters' or their journeys. Peter's emo phase with the symbiote was an odd choice but the main point of the symbiote saga was still retained--Peter was increasingly fueled by rage & was pushing the people closest to him away.

Avi Arad, again, for all his faults, was not wrong for pushing Venom either. That was the next logical villain choice, and the symbiote mirrors the storyline for SM3 quite nicely.

If anything, I think it was the Stacy's that could have been removed... Instead of Gwen Stacy, give Elizabeth Banks a bit more to do as Betty Brant. And if you remove George Stacy (and the Flint Marko reveal as Uncle Ben's killer), you can dedicate screentime to other characters/stories... the symbiote could make Peter conflate Flint Marko w/ The Burglar in his mind, causing him to 'murder' him during the subway fight.

Welp, already bought the vinyl for the 1st movie. Guess Im getting this one too lol. Also, it really disapointing they never officially released Young's score for Spider-Man 3. Depending on how well this sells, I hope they'd release it in vinyl. Sandman's theme is so good.

I can remember it like it was yesterday. I saw it twice on opening day.

First time I saw it was Labor Day 2004. I was lukewarm on the first film (which I liked but not wild), but I decided to see it after hearing rave reviews. It was reduced to one show (because it had been out for over two months) but it was sold out— and people were still whooping it up like it was opening day. After seeing it I was kicking myself for not seeing it earlier.

So many fond memories of that movie. Still gave me the same warm feelings when I saw it on Spider-Monday back in April.

I would buy the SM-2 vinyl if it were an expanded release (I was disappointed after hunting down the score 💿 that Chris Young’s contributions to SM-2 were not included). Those are invaluable to the final film. I don’t know if Elfman is holding up an expanded release for that or SM-3 because of the mess BTS, but I would love a proper SM-3 score release. Young uses Elfman’s motifs in interesting and unique ways while maintaining his own style.

Still crazy to me that the third one never got released. I hope they put it on CD or digital as well if they do decide to do a vinyl release.

Christopher Young actually said in an interview they were going to do a SM-3 score release but Sony wanted him to take out all the Elfman themes (and not pay Elfman’s fee). So unless Sony changes their mind (or a specialty soundtrack label ponies up), it’s tied up in legal limbo.

I’ll ask Sam Raimi later this month (he’ll be at my local convention this year) about that. Maybe he can clear some stuff up.

I was watching some Spider-Man 2 clips on YouTube, and in one video with the Doc Ock train fight and train rescue, this one comment with 51k likes stood out to me on what I really miss about the Spidey movies;

I'm not trying to bash MCU Spidey, its just a reminder of how darn good we had it back then when Raimi was at the helm.

Hi guys, this is my first message on these forums. I wanted to tell you about the @raimi_webhunter account I started on Twitter, I found a lot of Lost Media from the Raimi trilogy and uploaded it there so check it out. There is the Spider-Man 3 Extended Church Scene Animatic, Completely new Doc Ock battle animatic from SM 2 and much more

Appreciate it, thanks.

Harry becoming Venom would have helped streamline things.

I've never cared for this idea in any media (not in the Ultimate Spider-Man cartoon, Not in Marvels Spider-Man 2)

The problem with doing it for Spider-Man 3 is that Harry already has Norman's ghost spurring him on to villainy, The symbiote on top of that would just be redundant.

In general, depends on the execution. In Spider-Man 2, I think Harry as Venom worked great. Would it have worked in SM3? Eh....not as sure.

I think Harry would still have his character arc, and learn to move beyond revenge (albeit too late). Peter could still then use that lesson to forgive Sandman. It’ll shake up the climax a bit, but I think Raimi & co. could still tick the same boxes.

Why exactly did Harry call himself Venom in that game? I don't think we ever got an actual explanation

It doesn't really solve my problem of the symbiote being redundant when you already have Norman being the one to spur Harry on.
