only problem i had with it is rather scant action scenes... which leads me to my main question

IMDB has this listed as a 186 million dollar picture... if this is true then Favreau despite giving a fantastic film is another director who I'm afraid is not as fiscally responsible as other directors given what i saw as a "lack of action." But now some are saying the budget was 136 mill...

which is it? 136 mill or 186 mill? if it's 136 then I can completely understand, but if 186... then that's a bit worrying in terms of how much they can really up the ante in the sequel

I don't know, compared to alot of other CGI laden movie budgets 186 million seems rather conservative to me. And what's wrong with a little good old fashioned character development? Did you want this movie to be a confusing mess of things blowing up and people screaming like that movie that shall not be named directed by that hack Michael Bay?

Saw Iron Man yesterday and i was impressed REALLY impressed. In fact, it's one of the best superhero movies i've ever seen! Robert Downey is a real tour de force in this - he's perfect as Tony Stark. Bring on the sequel!!:im::bow::up:

Either way, I don't think it matters. Favs/Marvel know what they're doing. IM will make its baudget back, easily and secondly, it looks more expensively made than other comic book movies that have budgets of 200 to 300 $million.

say what u want but that movie looked like 300million bucks and only costs 140

more over
if Favreau DIRECTED the Transformers SCRIPT
and Bay DIRECTED the new iron man SCRIPT

tf would have had just as weak a story with no ground breaking spectacle
and iron man would have had just as strong a story with just as much improve with powerhouse photograhpy and perhaps an office building set piece lol

:im:

I would have to agree with Marvin on Transformers. You can't go after Michael Bay on the action front and making his films look like they actually cost more than they actually were.

Transformers looks like a 250 million dollar film. If the Iron Man budget really was 186 million, where's the rest of the film?

Although, it looks a hell of a lot better than Spider-Man 3 which cost nearly 500 million (unofficially).

That sums it up for me pretty much as well.

I liked Iron Man every bit as much as Batman Begins (although I do have to say that Iron man was a tiny bit more cohesive than BB), so it belongs at the top of the superhero heap.

Saw it last night. Great and Solid comic book film.

Robert Downey Jr. couldn't have been more perfect as Stark.

I saw it last night. I have to say that was the best Marvel movie since Spider-Man 2. So amazingly incredible. The movie had me so pumped afterwards I went out and bought Iron Man action figures! I have to admit I was always extremely skeptical about Robert Downey Jr. for Tony Stark (I've always just thought of him as a Jeff Goldblum clone) but he totally pulled it off. The movie perfectly balanced action and humor without being overly cheesy. Jeff Bridges also did a great job with Obadiah Stane. I also love all the little geek nods to Stan Lee, War Machine, Iron Monger, and S.H.I.E.L.D. Speaking of that, I nearly **** myself when

Samuel L Jackson appeared as Nick Fury and talked about the Avenger mission at the end of the credits. Can anyone send me the exact dialog that Jackson said?

When that happened my friend and I looked at each other and yelled "oh my god" like little girls. Totally amazing.

I think the only thing I really disliked in the movie was the obviously Burger King product placement, I cringed. And the inclusion of AC/DC, I cringed even more. One more thing, at the end when the Stark Industries building started blowing up...where did Pepper run off to?

Over all, excellent movie and easily marvel's best since Spider-Man 2. Will be seeing it again

Also, we had the coolest trailers attached.

Narnia
TDK
Hulk
Indy

That pretty much puts it in a nutshell for me Liz.

The movie has a heavy rock music influence so if you're not a fan of the genre then it may be a little distracting. For me it made the movie even better. Fit Iron Man as much as Blade's rap and techno fit it.

Agreed. The rock music was perfect.

I agree about the product placement -- the obvious Burger King, Audi and cell phone product shots were too blatant in their pandering.

AC/DC is indeed overused as "party hardy" music in film and TV shows, but it fit the mood. Since we knew we were going to hear Black Sabbath's "Iron Man" anyway, it wasn't unexpected.

If I had been held captive for three months and wanted a cheeseburger upon getting home, I sure as hell wouldn't go to Burger King.

Oh yeah

Pepper: "I do whatever Mr. Stark requires, even taking out the trash."

LoL

It was interesting that she was a Vanity Fair reporter, since Vanity Fair is right now in the spotlight for the Miley Cyrus photoshoot. Not very complimentary to Vanity Fair reporters, however. :hehe:

Similar kinda vibe as the earlier GR reviews.

........like he doesn't want to be the one who says it wasn't as good as the all Hype. I may be wrong, but it's just a vibe.

You don't have to worry about that, it's definitely not a Ghost Rider.

Overall I thought it was one of the better Superhero movies I've seen. For a summer action flick it had a surprising amount of character development in Stark, and they managed to fit in good dramatic moments as well as scenes that made me laugh out loud.

As far as Superhero movies go, I'd definitely say it's in the top 10.

Also I got to add one more little thing to my review. Usually when other main characters decides to become a superhero I always find it totally random and unbelievable (Spider-Man, Daredevil, Punisher, etc) but when Tony decides he wants to protect people I find it totally believable that this irresponsible playboy ******* could have a moral change and want to be savior. I found it believable.

i honestly don't think Downey was the Stark i've been reading in the books
well the current ones atleast
(ie civil war and such)

but like Wes did with Blade

he created someone/something better

this stark works great
needs a tad bit more gotee tho

(jackmans wolvierine pales compared to the books...and bales bruce/bats is meh)

I definitely give this film a 9/10. It was jsut the right combination of everything action, comedy, drama and a little splash of romance. I live the little glance and smiles that Peter and Tiny sahre on occasion and it works so much better then words could. Getting Robert Downey to play Tony Stark was a great casting idea. It's like he was born to play the role.:yay:

MEow! I love that line.

I did as well.

I saw it last night. I really loved this movie! It was great! I think it belongs up there with the other great comic movies like, spiderman, batman begins etc. Robert Downey Jr stole the show.

I went and saw Iron Man last night and I loved every second of the film. :woot:. I stayed and watched after the credits and there were only about nine of us left as others left and didn't know about the clip after the credits. I was like OMG :D. Its the best Marvel film since Spiderman 2 and X2. iron Man is now one of my fav comic book movies ever. I cannot wait for the sequel.
