the official jarv thread

Jarv,

Have you or Texeira thought of drawing Ghost Rider portraits or any type of Poster deals for Marvel?

hey jarv, as a fan really we cant fully explain how good it feels to see you posting on this site, no really, its not like we're a bunch of geeks that sit around posting and blogging day and nite, im sure we all have fantastic jobs but as for yours?..... well you're doing what we'll love to do, only thing you're doing it better than if we were laying in our beds and actually dreaming of drawing a flaming skull, lol hey man what im trying to say is Much Love and respect goes out to you and everyone thats part of making this character come to life, may God contine to bless you in your career and personal life.

Mr.Saltares, once again congrats for the amazing artwork on the GR new series, and forever, for bringing back my hero, powerful than ever.
And i ask you: since i´ve seen your incredible Samurai GR pic, i wonder, there is a possibility of a one-shot or mini telling that GR version story?
Best wishes and keep the awesome work.
GR4EVR!!!

I have an art question.

Could you tell me how you go about building the pencils for a comic page you put together? Being I can't do more than pinups now, I would like to know how a professional goes about creating a page.

Or how you build an image in general. When you lay down pencils, do you sketch out locations first or just go into it without a second thought? Do you use references, etc.?

Yeah, i always wanted to know how are the penciled pages before Texeira inks them, what each artist contributes to the final appearance, like who does the eyes, who does the teeths, who does the particular flames shape, who does the leather jacket shadowing etcc.

hello all,
first,k4l, thanks for all the praise.
"i'm not worthy, i'm not worthy!"
seriously though, thanks very much. happy you enjoy the work.
next, gr samurai? would love for marvel to use it. they saw it and thought it was very cool btw. poster question, what do you think? i'd love to.
art question, i'll try and get w/ mm and send some "process" samples for
him to post at intersnape. how's that. really thanks again for all the interest.
always cool hearing from you guys.

Incredible news on issue #94 Jarv. Marvel is doing a good thing there and a little ground breaking as well. I mean, I can't think of any other title that waited 8 years to print the final issue. Well, not so much waited as shafted hunreds of fans only to cash in on them later. I'm not bitter. No.

In all seriousness, congrats man. I can't wait for January to see my favorite Ghost Rider's legacy come to a close... though I'm a little sad that it's coming to an end completly, which I assume from your comments it will be. It'll be nice to have closure though...

Samurai Ghost Rider would be freakin' sweet man. Even as a mini or a story arc or anything. Poster, at the very least. That would be incredible man! Hook us up. Should we all write Marvel for ya?

Quick question, Jarv. I was reading Howard Mackie's comments about Cypress Hills Cemetery and how he took photos for you to use as reference, and I was just wondering how you came up with names for all the gravestones and mausoleums? Did you just pluck them out of the air or were they people you knew?

Ta!

That would be much appreciated.

Not sure how easy it will be to get ahold of MM these days, though I'm sure he'll get back to you as soon as he gets your message Jarv. He's been busy as of late and sadly hasn't been around all that much. Either way, don't let that stop you from sendin' the samples for him to post. We'd all love a gawk.

If you need, I can open up a subfolder on my gallery.bezerker.org page to temporarily host the images for you.

hey ndx,
i appreciate that.
can you contact me through a pm and i will
get back in touch.

thanks fh for the heads up.

honestly never thought about doing this.

as for your question, all i can say is marvel did ask

me for the pages back on issue no. 94.

if they're actually going to do it, your guess is as good as mine.

btw, just a shout out to all you gr heads. gr is doing well

and we're expecting graet things to happen.

thanks in large part to you fans. thanks again

Well, as Jarv said he would, here are his drawing samples:

Pencils (Top hald are the finished pencils, bottom half are the breakdowns).

The final inks:

And there you have it.

Fascinating and very cool. I love seeing how art is made, whatever the medium.

Again, I can't help but feel very privileged that Jarv, Howard Mackie and MSJ share stuff with us like that.

Thank you.

:yay:

Sweet Jarv! MAN I wish I had my Dr. Martain dyes! lol

The man himself.

(Sorry Jarv but I had to shrink the photo down for convenience.)

Cool.

Hey, does anyone dare stick that in the 'Caption This' thread?

:woot:

Howard

just wanted to thank ndx
for getting this all up for me.
'preciate it bro!
thank you for the compliment howard.

jarv

ooooJarv are you sure? lol
By the way I have a Celtic Tribal skull the same size as the one on your shelf. lol mines a nicnak holder lol.

It's only my impression or Jarv style evolved with more definite shadows? i remember the first issues of GRII having much more of the shadowing done by coloring (generally blue/grey, the one of my avvy anyway, ah Javier could you tell us wich exact yellow color/ink was used for GR flame and that blue grey, and who was the one who choose them? Was a deliberated choice for atmosphere? Was there other experiments?). Jarv "modern" style is much much more...clean, i would almost say it reminds me a little Mike Mignola with the more extensive use of black campitures(GR art was always havily based on Light/Shadow contrast anyway)..... I think maybe that "dirtness" was due to the strict monthly schedule, but i felt it made the comic a little more...dynamic? Still, awesome, you need almost no proportion lines, and the flames comes to you very naturally...i really envy you...

oh yeah vartha,
bring it on. make fun of the ol'man
and see if ghostie does come after your butt!
just kidding. have a blast guys. no kidding.
want to see what you all come up with.
