The Official Lanterns News & Discussion Thread

I wonder what the odds are that we finally get a trailer for the show with the Peacemaker finale.
Hoping it’ll at least be featured in the next “what’s to come on HBO” montage. Watch it just be the same shot we’ve had forever, just in motion. :funny:

I really hope we get some footage or something tangible from this soon. I certainly understand the desire to be cautious and secretive, especially with how the Reynolds movie damaged the brand. But I feel like the overall positive response to Gardner in Superman should give them some confidence that the GL brand is okay now. Obviously this show will be very tonally different but at least some of the more goofy aspects of GL (creating energy constructs) should also be on display here at times and people seem to have responded fairly well to that (maybe it helps that Guy didn’t create a Hot Wheels track lol).

I doubt this has much to do with the Reynolds Film...they are slow playing it for a reason.

Isn’t the show coming out in 2026? No need to market it until after Peacemaker wraps up. Lots of time to build hype and showcase footage.

Honestly, I don’t think most of the GA remembers the Reynolds film. It probably would have faded into obscurity if Ryan’s career didn’t become as prominent as it has.

Yeah, I don’t think they’re thinking too hard about Reynolds here lol

PMS2 wraps up the week of NYCC so its kinda lined up to jump right into Lanterns and Supeegirl promo then

The Green Lantern movie starring Reynolds was released when the target audience for these shows—or at least a large portion of it—was still in diapers.
When this new series begins in 2026, there will have been almost as much time between it and the 2011 movie as there was between Batman 89' and Batman Begins. The slate is clean.

And yes, we're getting old...

And if he didn't spend time crapping on it...

I don’t think you need to worry about that so much. George Clooney didn’t exactly say nice things about his Batman movie and we all know that recovered.

Lots of people knew green lantern pre Reynolds and I think as long as the new series is good people will give it a go

Also, from what I read, the TV show is targeted toward a more "mature" audience. I don't think I'm wrong to guess that most adults who cares about superhero stuff knows green lantern and maybe even are craving to see more GL content.

In my case, that's the project I'm the most excited about since Gunn uncovered his slate in 2022.

Man that 2011 movie had basically zero redeeming qualities. I saw it stoned as a teenager with my friends and it was only remotely enjoyable because it was hilariously bad. We couldn’t believe what we were seeing. Hector Hammond still makes me laugh, Peter Sarsgaard did a terrible job there lol. A contender for the worst DC villain for sure.

It sounds like they’re starting out with Atrocitus, Sinestro, and Black Hand right out the gate! Damn that’s a way better lineup than we got in the movie. I’ll never understand why they didn’t use their original script. It’s great. I loved the Superman cameo there.

My mom still can't differentiate between Green Lantern and Green Hornet so I think we're fine with the normies. :hehe:

Seriously though, no one's gonna care or think about the 2011 film when watching this. The only person who ever reminds people it exists is Reynolds himself, and he's got enough other stuff going on to the point I don't even think those jokes make an impression anymore.

Was just listening to Gunn's director's commentary on Superman and he talked about

how he was watching Fillion's episodes of Lanterns and noting how different-but-same Guy feels there. Says he's very much the same character but Fillion plays it a bit differently to better match the tone of the show. As most of us were expecting of course, but nice to hear that confirmed nonetheless. I really wanted him to mention whether or not the hair is the same though. :funny:
