I like the idea of Jason Issacs as Luthor. He would be another solid choice!

My dream casting would be Daniel-Day Lewis, but I cannot ever see that happening

I want an actor that will channel Clancy Brown. The only actor I can think of that could pull that off has already said he isn't interested - Billy Zane.

Now - that's the one who comes to mind for me... but there must be others.

I'm totally against revisiting Hackman/Donner's Luthor.

Yea i have said it a few times i hope the next superman film will drop the whole donnor setting/silver age era stuff and bring the characters/mythos into more modern takes on the characters like we have seen in stas/lois and clark/smallville.......

I like the idea of a cross between The Birthright Lex, TAS Lex, and Smallville Lex.

I actually think One Tree Hill's Paul Johansson could channel the TAS Lex, for some reason.

Whoever plays Lex Luthor should look like this:

They need to get away from these pudgy, soft looking actors who've been playing Lex. It needs to be someone who looks like Jackie Earle Haley or Crispin Glover (I'm not saying those two necessarily, just someone who has that type of look). Someone who looks dynamic and conniving. No more boring, doughy looking guys.

On looks alone, yes. Paul Johansson looks like an older Superman. He looks so much like a shorter, more compact Chris Reeve, and if they ever do a Reeve biopic, I'd like Johansson to play him.

But the man's aura is so much more Lex Luthor. Charming and conniving, lures you in to a false sense of security and then screws you over. Good looking guy who can make you like him, but with evil intent.

I've always thought Johansson could play Jor-El as well.

Jason Isaacs is the perfect Lex Luthor. PERFECT, you cannot screw that up. Ever since I watched Isaacs in The Patriot, I thought of him as either Lex or Braniac, but he would be better as Lex, in my opinion. It was either going to be him or Jaquin Phoenix if I had my way, and well, don't think Phoenix is happening.

I actually would prefer him as Brainiac. He seem the right choice for that role than Lex IMHO.

I can understand why anyone would feel that way. Like I said, I was torn.

I've always had my own little idea that the same actor should play both Jor-El and Braniac, because I'm in favor of using the Kryptonian origin and I think it would be a neat twist.

I like John Malkovich better for Brainiac, but Jason Isaacs is a very intimidating actor too. Malkovich is more cerebral and weird. Isaacs, or Phoenix, or DiCaprio as a younger Lex would be cool.

Thats what I love so much about Isaacs. He is so damn intimidating and can come across as so evil that you think he is the devil incarnate. I've always thought he should play Satan in a movie at some, honestly.

The Patriot had it's flaws and was very, very cliche-ridden. History undergrad here. But Isaacs made me hate him. Isaacs was a stone cold villian, and thats the kind of villian I love. He would take the campy element of Hackman/Spacey and make you forget that Lex ever existed. No humor, no frills, he just makes you scared and angry.

With that being said, I fully understand why Isaacs would also make a perfect Braniac, but like I said, I have my own little idea of the same actor playing Jor-El and Braniac, not that it will ever happen.

Had Jaquin Phoenix not turned into a tubby rapper, he was another guy I would have loved as Lex, for alot of the same reasons I listed with Isaacs. Phoenix, however, could give you Lex more of a charismatic charm to help shield the evil, were Isaacs would just be a ruthless, evil bastard.

I'm convinced Phoenix's current personality will pass away, and soon too. I just saw Two Lovers today, he's a damn good actor, very subtle. He'll be back.

If and when it does, I'm all for him. Maybe Phoenix kicking ass as Lex Luthor will be the role that brings him back to respectablity,

Although I would still want the same actor to play Jor-El/Braniac, which is currently Jim Caviezal by the way. I think Caviezal can play the cold, emotionless Braniac quite well. But, my idea is unlikely to happen, so Isaacs could be moved to Braniac, or if the WB takes the ignorant route and casts a human looking Darkseid, or atleast a Darkseid that disguises himself as human, Isaacs could play that role. I really hope that doesn't happen though.

If it came down to Isaacs and Phoenix and it had to be one of the two for Lex, and whoever didn't get it could never be in a Superman movie again, I would take Isaacs, I think.

I think Jeffrey Donovan would make a fantastic Lex Luthor. He is a strong actor who is mostly known for his role on USA channel's Burn Notice and Clint Eastwood's film 'Changling'. Jeffrey just oozes the cold, sly, corporate ego of Lex. Shave his head and we've got a winner. Just watch Burn Notice and tell me I'm wrong.

Still not feeling the Leo suggestion. I just don't see it at all. Zane is a b-movie actor who isn't very good at the whole er acting thing IMHO, he isn't good enough for a Superman movie. We can find a better fit and a better actor than Donovan.
