The Official Lex Luthor Casting Thread

What could Lex's motivation be? His idol was Alexander The Great in Smallville, and I liked that. He strived for that control and rule. But he did so because Lionel called him after Alexander, and that influence was set into his mind...But if Lex is more closer to the comics,he was born in the Slums.

I guess an influence could be, since a child, he has dreamed of acquiring the power to make Metropolis a better city, and he works his way up. Eventually developing a God complex, after making Metropolis a greater city. He has the World's best interests at heart, having the dream of total power by becoming President,

His hate for Superman could be based on both jealousy and a belief that Superman will take over the World, starting with HIS city.
That sounds a lot like STAS Lex, one of my favourite versions of his.

I want character development for Lex. I want him to start as a good guy who slowly turns evil because he gets obsessed and will do anything to achieve his goals. I want to feel some sympathy for him. If they cast Isaacs in the role, he'd look evil from the get go.
Yeah me too. I don't want Lex to be so much evil as he is smug....
He thinks he is above everyone. It's only when Superman appears that he truly feels jealousy for the first time, and he then obsesses over trying to better superman from that point on.

I'll repost this from another thread:

I'm seeing Lex in this one being more of like a Goldman Sachs exec... provoking misery in millions and still getting help from the government, which he has bought off. Lexcorp being the cause of a massive economy crisis on purpose is a scenario that I'd like to see played. Specially if it's part of a bigger project... like Brainiac's plans...

I've had this idea for awhile, and it's based off the idea that Lex believes in his head that he is the good guy and that his actions fall under the "The ends justify the means" saying.

Lex should secretly fund terrorist activity, just so that he can turn around and get some weapons contracts for LexCorp for what I would call the "Metallo Project" and a private security force like Blackwater. This in turn makes Lex look like a hero so that he can climb the Political ladder, and he could get a license to slaughter the very insurgents that he sets up out of hatred.Of course, I'd show him taking it too far. LexCorp would really be more of tool in my Superman universe, while Lex's true ambition was with politics and gaining authoritarian power so that he could "save" the world.

There would be shades of Adolf Hitler in my Lex Luthor. Lex would eve share Hitler's love of the occult, which as I've said on here before, I would like to see Lex get ahold of some black magic abilities at some point, ya know, something that can hurt Superman OTHER than Kryptonite. I'd even consider adapting the DC comics version of Lucifer somehow as a part of a Lex scheme.

You see, to me, Lex is the ultimate evil in Superman's universe. I don't want Lex to be seen or shown as a pawn in some Braniac or Darkseid plot. Lex should be the ultimate challenge for Superman.

I think that Depp and DiCaprio as Lex would not work out so well. I think Jon Hamm would be okay, and Viggo Mortensen could be great. however, my one, and only pick for the next Lex Luthor, wud be who i wud cast for theClark and Lex as friends and contemporaries angle of Smallville, and that choise would be Chris Pine from Star Trek

the man is a rly soild actor, and can convey cocky charm that Lex needs rly well. i have faith that he'd be a kick-ass Lex Luthor

He strikes me as more of the hero type. Actually his personality on films tends to remind me of the Flash.

perfect choices for Superman villains:

LEX LUTHOR- Chris Pine
METALLO- Bradley Cooper
GENERAL ZOD- Karl Urban
MORGAN EDGE- Sam Rockwell
BRUNO MANHEIM- Donnie Wahlberg
BRAINIAC- Doug Jones
DOOMSDAY- Andy Serkis performing MOCAP

I cant see pine as Lex. sorry. Maybe as The Flash tho.
Lex needs to be played by an actor that has a wide range with LOTS of experience.
Someone like, but not necessarily, day-Lewis, Depp, Mortensen, Isaacs, Hanks, Brolin, or Decaprio.

see those guys are fine for the tired out story line of Lex being an old man fighting Superman with his money. Ive written a reboot script in which Clark and LEx are contemporaries, and freinds, and in that version, similar to the Lex we know from Smallville, who inevitably became the bad guy, Chris Pine would be perfect for that

They're not bad, just not who I would prefer.

so for the other villains i mentioned, who wud u pick instead? cuz i recognize that Pine is going in a different direction with Lex, but the others are all REALLY good i think

Metallo: Kiefer Sutherland or Sean Bean.
Zod: Russell Crowe.
Brainiac: Hugo Weaving or Jason Isaacs
Morgan Edge: Ian McShane

Sean is a great actor. he could fit just about any role you wanted him in.
Crowe looked ok in Robin Hood. Besides, if he were a general, and older, you wouldnt expect Zod to be built like a bodybuilder.

He doesn't look okay anymore unless he is wearing spanx and a black tux. Unless he loses weight I will laugh at him in a Supervillain role in this Superhero movie. He isn't 60 years old, he needs to lose weight to play in something like this. He does need to be in much better shape and I'm not asking for body builder shape but something better than doughy.

I know it's fashionable to only criticize actresses weight but I'm not a bias person so I criticize both sexes. It's a fantasy movie and he isn't playing Lex, I want a more fit Zod.
