I still say Luke Goss from Blade 2, Hellboy 2, and The Man. He has the look, plus he can do martial arts, which means if he and Superman ever have to go head to head he would actually be believable if whooping Supes arse in a Krypto suit.

i like Luke Goss.....but can he pull off a convincing American accent?

I think if many American Actors can pull of convincing British accents, then he may be able too.

Also, I think having Lex sound a little aristocratic with a New England slightly broken English accent would make for a better accent, if they go the businessman, inventor, scientist route. Kind of how Stewey on Family guy sounds British/New England, but it isn't quite Enlish. *sorry best example I could think of lol.*

I do think Pace has a decent look but I also want a bigger actor for the role

Made this one for the manips thread:

Craig is my favorite choice so far. We need someone mature, intimidating and menacing. And yet he must look very intelligent and sophisticated. Kevin Spacey could have nailed with a better script, but enough with the chubby sedentary Luthors. Craig is in good shape and can kick some ass.

Luke Goss could be good, not sure on his American accent but how well is he doing for himself since Bros. He was superb in Hellboy 2

I was talking about Stephen Dorff, but i'm not too fond of Craig either. Good actor, but he doesnt look like he belongs in a suit. He just doesnt have the suaveness of his Bond predecessors and that's one of the reasons i dont like his Bond movies that much. Lex wears a suit too, so...

What do you think about Toby Stephens (Die Another Day villain) or Stuart Townsend (his hairline is receeding anyway, might be nice for him to do Lex role :oldrazz:). These gents can don a tux and do badass stuff if need be (aside from Craig of course!)...

Just a thought, potentially Lex in the movie can look slightly older than Supes (but not 50s or older) because if you come to think of it, if Lex is a tech industry/weapons industry magnate, usually guys involved in such stuff are in their 40s...

Thanks!

Toby Stephens is so blatantly obnoxious when he plays a villain, and like i said i dont want Lex to be that way. I dont know the other dude, but meh...

I'm digging Craig. If he got the Lex role and Isaacs got the Brainiac part, i'd be in heaven.

Amazing work my man.

Indeed, great manip. Craig is definitely a good, out of the box choice...

Which reminds me: Jeff Bridges was a lot like Luthor in "Iron Man". That's another actor who went under the radar, got the part and then everyone could see it. When he dropped the "good friend" facade, he was very menacing, in an intelligent, corporate way.

Luke Goss

However, I agree with the last post. I wouldn't be surprised if we got someone nobody expected. Someone who usually plays nice guys, or non villainous roles.

Nevertheless, I want my Lex to be the top dog in Metropolis until Supes comes and steals his shine. Someone who the public, celebrities, media love, but secretly hate in a way. Either because he has squashes the poor and middle class by closing jobs and facilities, even though he pretends he cares, or because he does some hostile business practices, like buying and selling companies, without really needing to.

I want Superman to defeat him physically and somewhat mentally, but I want Clark to battle him publicly and hurt him either by his reputation or financially.

It would be nice to see other reasons why Lex hates Superman other than he is an alien and Lex doesn't trust his boy scout persona, they grew up as friends and fell out, or Lex was a fanboy of Superboy. I want to see Lex a little jealous and get really pissed off by this.

I always liked the idea that Luthor could've been a hero had he not been so obsessed with Superman.

Agreed,

I want to see the first half of the film with Lex possibly trying to be the hero of Metropolis, while at the same time doing so many corrupt things or bad business practices behind close doors, and then Clark Kent and Lois expose him. It might also be interesting to see or reveal that Lex and Lois dated or at least went out for a brief time, but she wasn't interested and Lex continues to try and woo her, even though he has Ms. Shumauker, Tess, or Mercy on the side lol.

I think it would be better if people see Lex as a guy that they get caught up liking and say to themselves that, "Hey, he ain't so bad," and then he surprises everyone. Therefore, leaving people saying that if it wasn't for Superman he might have been an okay guy, possibly.

Here were my thoughts on how I'd like Luthor to be portrayed, from the "Character Portrayal" thread:

LEX LUTHOR
I'm open to him being either a Machiavellian business tycoon, or a mad scientist supervillain, as I don't think either portrayal has really been done full justice on the screen before. Perhaps - tying into my previous post - he starts out as beloved CEO of Lexcorp, but it's the dogged, determined journalism of the Daily Planet and Lois Lane in particular that ultimately brings him down and has him recast as a feared and hated villain in future films.

But whatever incarnation he's in, there are certain qualities I want to see. Lex Luthor thinks he's the hero. None of this Gene Hackman "I'm so evil, the greatest criminal mind in the world, BWAHAHAHA!" stuff. He sees himself as Prometheus, stealing fire from the gods and bringing it down to man. He thinks that if only he can get rid of Superman then he can cure cancer and end world hunger and be the adored leader of a utopia of scientific future-people. But that's not true. He's incredibly intelligent, a genius even, but he's not as smart as he thinks he is. His own deficiencies, his own deeply personal shortcomings and inadequacies, mean that no amount of praise, no amount of validation, no amount of recognition can ever be enough for him. He needs something to blame his inability to be as great as he wants to be on, and so everything is Superman's fault. If it wasn't Superman, it would be someone or something else. There has to be an enemy, other than himself.

In a lot of ways, Lex is a classic racist. He says we can't trust Superman because he's not one of us, he's something inhuman. He's an outsider, and only he is brave and clear-sighted enough to stand against him as a self-appointed champion of humanity. And the tragedy of it is that Superman is a better human than Luthor can ever be.

But it's important we see the parallels between Luthor and Kent. Both had humble beginnings, raised in Smallville. But while Clark had the unconditional love of the Kents, Luthor had the cruelty and the constant criticism of his father. While Clark wears his identity proudly - be it his Smallville upbringing as Clark, or his Kryptonian heritage as Superman - Luthor is ashamed of where he came from, and has spent his adult life trying to erase that part of himself, twisting and coiling himself into this grand vision of transcendant genius that he feels he should be.

Superman can fly through space and into the stars, but comes down to Earth to walk among us. Lex Luthor is an ordinary man, but builds the highest skyscraper in Metropolis and locks himself in it like an ivory tower to keep himself separated from the unwashed masses. He is someone that, like Superman, has great power, but unlike Superman, doesn't want to share it. He wants it all for himself. He wants the adoration and love that Superman gets, but without realising that he needs to give just as much back for it to work.

Look at how Luthor has evolved throughout history, and you can see in his various incarnations what he stands for. In the era of the atom bomb, he was the irresponsible scientist abusing advances in technology. In the era of "greed is good" and yuppie culture, he was the amoral representative of big business. In the era of an unpopular war and an even more unpopular Government, he was President of the United States. And now, he embodies all our own prejudices and shortcomings. Just as Superman represents the best in humanity, Lex Luthor represents the worst - everything in us that is selfish and petty and small.

great post, Keyser! lots of thought put into it.

Looks too much like a television-version of Lex. Also too old.

Nice post. I agree with everything except:

- Lex isnt as smart as he thinks he is. I prefer the canon version where he is in the top 3 smartest people on earth.
- He blames Superman for his failures. I'd rather he's not a ******** crybaby, but rather obsessed with Superman and not being able to trust him like the rest of the world does. Again, canon.
- I never liked him being raised in Smallville. Too much of a coincidence and frankly its lazy writing. "We grew up in the same town but Lionel is responsible for my villainy. HURR." I wouldnt mind it if his parents were great people and him striving to live up to their name. But then all his good deeds go unnoticed when a flying man appears to steal his thunder. I would just like to see Lex evolve to villainy, in a "the end justifies the means" way, rather than straight up villainy. But i'd take anything over the smallville-Lionel-HURR origin.

Yeah. I can accept Lois not knowing Clark Kent is Superman, but if Lex can't even recognize the guy he grew up with then it would seem like Metropolis is full of idiots.

Donovan has a good look...can't comment on his acting though since i've never seen him act.

Yep, he looks decent enough, but he's 43. Doesnt look it though.
