The Official Lex Luthor Casting Thread

I highly doubt that Snyder will cast a B-movie actor as Lex Luthor. He's cast a fairly little-known actor as Superman, and it's pretty likely cast someone with more notoriety as Lex Luthor. As someone said earlier, Zane as Luthor would cheapen the movie.

Also, again, I question WHY he got so popular in the first place. He's not a very good actor, and he has failed to get any good roles for over a decade. He's a few notches below Bruce Campbell as far as getting taken seriously as an actor goes.

I can see where people have reservations about Zane given his body of work and maybe there is validity there. There are, however, certain roles that some actors are just bread for and I think Lex Luthor is it for him. He might not have been the best stand out actor in his previous films but that might be because he always comes off arrogant, pompous, narcissistic, cocky, conniving, and everything else that Lex Luthor is. I don't think he'd cheapen the role or the movie for that matter because I think he is the role. I would love to hate him.
Hell, maybe he looks too much like the comic or cartoon... I can understand that. I myself thought it was he who laid his voice to the Lex in SAS.

Man, if only Spacey proved how truly great he could have been as Luthor.

They should cast younger for the role, anyway. So far, Jon Rhys Meyers is the best suggestion I've heard since Tom Hardy.

I'm kinda diggin Patrick Wilson. He's got a good look for the role, and I liked his snarkiness in The A-Team. It would work well for a likable public Lex & a maddened private Lex.

Man, if only Spacey proved how truly great he could have been as Luthor.

Not his fault though... That director of that movie, Ryan Dinger or something like that, didn't give anyone a chance to prove themselves.

Jon Hamm would rock as Lex it would also be quite funny as people wanted him as Superman

I think some need to consider the schedules for their choices too.

Leonardo DiCaprio or Patrick Wilson.
But there are MANY great choices for Lex.

i like Leo...but he would not look good with a bald head. i can guarantee that...

I'm afraid you're right, DorkyFresh. And that is my only concern about Leo. Name-wise he would get the movie tons of credibility, but he does have a weird-shaped bald head.
Matthew Goode and Benedict Cumberbatch would also be good, but I think Lex should be a Hollywood name.
In that sense, I'm sure Snyder/Nolan's choice will amaze us. There are many great candidates.

I've always thought Luke Goss could make an awesome Luthor. If they're wanting a more high profile actor, he'd be out of luck unfortunately.

Goss definitely looks Luthor'ish and he's awesome to behold, but I think they'll be going for the bigger bux here. We'll get a big name, I'm sure.

Yeah, probably. Although I hope talent wouldn't get ignored just because it's not Oscar nominated.

i'd be open to Luke Goss if he can fake an American accent...

clancy brown for lex. he does a great job in the animated and was one of the best bad guys ever in highlander.

my opinion on Clancy: too old, too weird looking....i'd like Lex to be SOMEWHAT handsome. he doesn't have to be dashing, ala Cavill, but i'd like to see a Lex that doesn't look inherently creepy.

Cavill and Dicaprio could have some amazing scenes opposite each other. Imagine Superman (Cavill) talking to Lex (Dicaprio) and almost a mental chess game would be between them. It would be the idea of Superman/Clark knowing he is corrupt but Lex with his charisma and intelligence able to fool much of the public.

thing is, while Leo is a very intense actor, i don't find him particularly threatening or intimidating.

His Lex would be deceptive and charming the public. However he could pull off moments of outbursts displaying the evil within.
