The Official Lex Luthor Casting Thread - Part 8

As long as Lex Luthor is based on a combination of Brian Azzarello and John Byrne's work, and has an actor portraying with gravitas. He'll be InJustice-approved.

I actually think that one of the good things the New 52 did was it's portrayal of Lex. He comes across as legitimately creepy and threatening (an entire state of the art prison was built just to hold HIM, and he can still contact people outside).

Y'see, I don't think that amounts to anything other than in-story flattery. The New 52 often tells rather than shows.

So have you guys heard the latest Internet rumour?

It's gotta be John Hamm. It's just gotta.
All the pieces are in place. And he's just got such a trusting yet cunning and powerful and handsome presence.

He's also pretty relevant.
it's gotta be him.

Willis would be terrible. No one in their right mind would ever suggest him if he didn't have a bald head.

If he tried, I'd be cool with him.

i agree imo casting very street centric guy for lex is just wrong kinda of how whalberg would be bad too

lex needs a high class type of guy or atleast a guy who can sell it

I brought Willis up some pages ago because of Kevin Smith mentioning him in his MOS podcast. Not sure how I feel about BW as Lex as of right now. I'd be on board, but over all else, you must think of a big-name to take charge with a stellar-cast to go along with MOS that Snyder mentioned and Willis fits that criteria....

The thing is, it's not that I don't like Willis as an actor, or even that he doesn't have enough range to play a smart, business man type. But Lex, if he is portrayed correctly, is THE SMARTEST PERSON ON THE PLANET. I could never, in a million years, buy Bruce Willis as that type of character.

I recently rewatched DEATH BECOMES HER and marveled at Bruce convincingly, imo, playing the nerdy scientist. On paper that's miscasting of the highest order and yet he pulled it off. Willis, as long as the script is right, is an underrated performer who can pull off anything and I could buy him as the smartest man on the planet.

He was reasonably suave in The Jackal, too. But, overall, I think there are far better choices available.

Y'know thinking about Jon Hamm (not that I'm advocating him), he would wrap the final season of Mad Men early next year, and could be looking for his next big career move...

Wonder if MOS2 will begin shooting next year or not.

I'd be stoked if Hamm landed the role. If Snyder was more like Nolan and had a penchant for reusing the same actors, I'd probably be convinced that the role is his already.

We'll see the casting news in a few months...

Honestly, I actually wish they could keep the casting a secret until very close to release of the next movie. As fans, we are far too spoiled. LOL

Wont happen, Lex needs to be a huge part of the marketing.

I wouldn't be averse to either Jude Law or Bradley Cooper. I used to think that Law would've made a good Riddler and Cooper a good Joker. That's an old pic of Law though, he looks a fair bit older now (the last movie I saw him in was Side Effects). Law does tend to play intellectual types of some sort - I could see him nailing that part of the character.

And although I was shamelessly plugging Denzel earlier, I tend to agree that Lex should be played by an under-50 actor.

Exactly why I would definitely prefer Law over Cooper if the choice came down to those two.

Bradley Cooper CAN pull it off.
LIMITLESS anyone??????????? Shouldn't THAT be lex luthor?
