The Official Lois Lane Casting & Discussion Thread - Part 3

Something tells me Snyder might go left-field on casting LL. While I understand everyone here debating looks/skills, I just hope Snyder can see the right chemistry in the auditions and pick the actress best suited to play alongside Cavill. Let's face it, Singer used to talk much about the romantic chemistry he saw between Routh and Bosworth -- and I frankly never saw anything of the sort.

I like McAdams, but she is older than Cavill and I keep thinking Snyder wants someone at or a few years younger than him. I still like Brie. Wilde would be an interesting choice. I'm not sure she's as visually spot-on as some people here attest, but she'd certainly draw a lot of fanboy attention.

I hope we hear something soon :-)

Finally, I thought I'd just stick a few more Brie pictures here because ... well, just because I can :-)

Dammit. As if I didn't have enough pictures of hot women on my hard drive.

*sigh* ... *right click*

For all the praise Stroup gets as looking like Lois, I feel as if Brie's look is just as impressive. Only she has the primary advantage of looking more mature, far more charismatic, and a better actress.

I too hope Snyder goes left-field and casts a name that hasn't been brought up yet. Someone in the ilk of Brie (or her herself) would give me great joy.

I honestly think Monaghan looks younger than McAdams, and I don't think McAdams looks too old either.

I REALLY hope they don't go with someone like Brie who looks younger than Cavill. I'd be perfectly happy with Lois looking the same age as him, but IF she doesn't, she'd better look older. Lois is the seasoned reporter, Clark's the new hire. If that's not the dynamic, I'll be a little a disappointed, tbh.

Also, Stroup is a terrible actress, imo.

I get where you're coming from on the age issue, but I disagree that Brie necessarily looks younger than Cavill. Brie can certainly be made up to look older. Some of the photos I posted clearly show her to look older than the age she really is.

And on that note, I like a choice like Brie not just because she's drop-dead gorgeous, but also because she's the same age as Cavill (27). In fact, she's got 6 months on him (Cavill was born in May 1983, Brie in Dec. 1983).

It also helps that she's an incredibly talented actress with great range (drama on Mad Men to comedy on Community). She's also an under-the-radar actress who provides great acting skills at (likely) a serious discount compared to the likes of Wilde or McAdams (both "it" stars who will demand big payouts).

I see Snyder casting left-field choices for CK and LL, if only because it helps the audience believe they're watching the characters and not real actors playing the characters. I see the supporting cast, however, featuring big stars. That's the way Nolan handles Batman and how Donner handled Reeve's Superman.

All this said, I'm not insisting Brie is the best choice. There are a lot of talented actresses out there. As I've said before, presuming Snyder can identify chemistry when he sees it, I support whoever he ends up choosing.

Brie is easily in my top 5, she's got a very great look, she's gorgeous, and she's a very good actress that has a lot of range. There's something about her when you see her on screen you cant help but love her. And then you see pictures when she exudes this sexiness and there's just a wow factor about her. Definitely a actress that should be looked at, she's easily in my top 5 and probably in my top 3 with McAdams and Wilde.

I agree. I'm not really fond of Stroup's look, she doesn't have this certain drawing quality to her that I see in Blunt, Wilde, and Monaghan. I think Alison Brie has it too, but not quite as much as those 3. I look at those 3 actresses, and I'm drawn in by them, they have this alluring, charming, with a dash of enchanting, aura about them. Stroup lacks this IMO, in her look and in her acting.

She plays Trudy on Mad Men, right? She (and Vincent Kartheiser) just look SO young on that show to me. They're like the kids of the Mad Men cast (not counting the actual kids, of course). She may only be 6 months younger than Cavill, but she looks a couple years younger than him to me, at least based on that show. Maybe she looks older in other roles?

She's not only older than him, but they easily appear to be in the same age bracket.

That looks too young for Cavill? I feel like she has the perfect balance of the young, fresh face for a franchise as well as the early maturity of a woman.

She's younger than him, but point taken. She does look older in those pics than on Mad Men. I've seen worse candidates.

whaaa??? i'll certainly agree about Wilde and maybe even Monaghan, but Blunt??? there's a reason i keep calling her Emily BLAND and it's not because she has an enchanting aura about her. i can see why some might think Stroup looks too Beverly Hills (though i don't agree and hair and wardrobe can always remedy that problem) but i don't see how anyone can say that Stroup doesn't have a drawing quality about her then mention Blunt unless you're into chicks with dead eyes.

Re: Brie, again, it really depends on how they make her up. She may look much younger in "Mad Men," but that's the character she's playing. She can easily look at or older than Cavill. In addition to the photos from KRIM, here are a few more. IMHO, she looks at or slightly older in these:

Ha. Ouch. :o

I'm personally rooting for her because she's one of the few actresses with an overabundance of personality and charm. I first caught wind of her when reading her hilarious recount of her sexual exploits in art school. Perhaps the first and only time I'll ever go smitten for a girl over written words.

In relation to the role it's integral for me that she retain the x-factor that would make someone as mild-mannered as Clark, to fall in love. By all accounts he shouldn't. He's a farmboy, she's a city girl. He's polite, she's slightly arrogant. He's reserved and polite, she's aggressive and antagonistic. So whatever it is about her that attracts people, it can't be through her actions. It has to be more subtle, more inherent to how she resonates rather than the content of her personality.

Of the candidates I'm not seeing much of that. This isn't so much about acting as it is natural vibrance. It's a shame Hathaway is booked because she's one of the few that had it. In spite of not looking anything like how I imagined the character, she has the right amount of charm to make the unlikable -- likable. McAdams has a bit of it, so she'd have to be my personal frontrunner if I had to choose from the list. I'm not crazy about her though. I'd feel a lot more confident with someone like Brie handling the material. Ideally Lois should be written like a b---h but come off as strangely attractive because of how she carries herself. Brie could shout out expletives at all my loved ones, and I'm confident her typical delivery would not fail to make me smile and adore her. That is a rare ability.

Frankly, I'd much prefer Brie over the completely tired suggestion of Olivia Wilde.

i'd be thrilled if Brie got the role, but i think they're probably going to go with someone who's fairly popular with the general audience. McAdams and Wilde are definitely safe bets.

btw, i don't think age should matter unless they look like they're in high school. if the rumors about this basically being an origin film are correct then they could easily just write Lois to where she's fairly new to the Daily Planet and eager to prove her worthiness, hence why should would be so adventurous.

100% agree.

It's just what I personally see in her. I simply find Blunt much more appealing and talented than Stroup. I thought Wild Target really showed that alluring and charming quality about Blunt. Just my 2 cents.

i haven't seen Blunt in anything but Wolfman so i can't comment too much on her talents, though i found her awfully boring in that movie. the few trailers i've seen her in don't really do anything for me either...but as far as looks go, again, i agree with you about Wilde, because she always looks vibrant and radiant. Monaghan, while not exactly striking, has an adorable look. Stroup, simply has beautiful eyes and a great voice for Lois. Blunt, on the other hand, just doesn't do anything for me. in most of her pictures she looks blank, her eyes almost look hollow. she's not ugly by any stretch of imagination but she just doesn't "glow"....

...just my opinion of course.

Who is even being looked at for lois at this point? The casting of Lois Lane has been soo quiet its odd.

It's Jessica Stroup or Olivia Wilde for me.

Seeing as they cast Gossip Girl's Blake Lively in Green Lantern I'm holding onto hope they might cast Jessica.

I mean just cause someone mostly works on tv doesn't mean they cant take on a big movie role.

But... I mean, by all means continue posting pictures of hot women in hardly any clothes.

It's always been one of the advantages of the Lois Lane thread. :yay:

LatinoReview claims McAdams and Wilde have tested. Wilde's representative shot down rumors that she'd be playing Lara Croft in the Tomb Raider reboot, but has yet to shoot down the claims that she read for the part of Lois Lane. Aintitcoolnews reported that Jessica Biel met with Snyder for a brief luncheon. Kristina Anapau (from Black Swan) has expressed interest in the role but no one has reported on WB or Snyder approaching her.

i think that's about the most concrete info about Lois's casting we've gotten so far.
