dammit, stop posting stuff from **************

that's from a 'house' photoshoot

Wilde would be okay, but I'm still not sold. I don't necessarily think it needs to be a "name" actress. See what's out there, there's always untapped talent.

Yes but this kind of film needs star power which Cavill doesn't yet provide. Snyder isn't exactly the best commercial director. He prefers to use lesser known actors which doesn't always work. A well known actress can help power this film. A film like Watchmen could of made more money if it had a high profile actor like Johnny Depp in one of the leads. Granted Superman/Clark is better with a lesser known actor in the lead but they really should go for a known actress for Lois or one the other female leads. You have to hit that female demographic as well. And girls are drawn to girls. By hitting more demographics, a 200 million box office becomes a 300+ million box office. An Olivia Wilde type actress is probably the way to go.

Do girls like Olivia Wilde? I've never heard anyone say her name but comic fans fancasting their favorite heroes' movies.

She was on the cover of Vanity Fair's Hollywood issue if that means anything.

And she has a pretty big following on Tumblr, where I'm pretty sure the female users outweigh the male.

I'm a girl, and I don't like Olivia Wilde.

Actually, I don't like her to be Lois, she could play Lara Croft, not Lois.

I think she's just an "it girl".

I've never seen her in anything, I just never heard her name a single time until she was in Tron. Then her name started popping up in every fancast for every role. So I don't know if she's talented or what. However, I agree with your signature, but I love Mary, so I may be biased. She's still my favorite for the role though.

Does Superman really need famous names? I think Superman (as a character) stands alone. The movie needs, of course, a good cast, actors who can portray the well-known characters perfectly.

And Cavill just need great chemistry with a talented actress as Lois.

If they make a good casting, we'll have a great movie. And the actors will become stars.

I would say the film needs at least one "recognised" name in order for it to be a big success.

But if it's a really good movie then the word of mouth will be enough for it. I think.

Just MHO, but I think Jor-el, lara, jonathan and Martha and most definetly Lex, all need to be big names.

I reckon there's a good chance of a Brit actress being cast as Lois. If that proves to be the case the best candidate IMHO is Gemma Arterton. She's a RADA graduate building a solid portfolio, but remains under the radar. She is stunningly beautiful (can be dulled down), the perfect age at 25, and I think would have great chemistry with Cavill. According to IMDB she is filming Wrath of the Titans in 2012, but if reports that Lois will only play a small part in this film are correct I'm sure she could fit it into her schedule. Hurry up and cast her Snyder and Nolan, you know it makes sense!

Oh and Alice Eve for Cat Grant would be great!

Glamor shots don't tell you enough. You really have to see how they look on video. And Olivia look perfectly normal and "nice" in Tron and in this video. Plus she is the safer bet when it comes to acting based on her resume and upcoming work.

mmmmm.....yes please

Gemma is a really good actress. A lot of people don't realize that since they suffered through Clash of the Titans, but she's been in some really good indie stuff. Anyone here seen The Disappearance of Alice Creed? She's stellar in that.

her mainstream work has just not been good she was quite annoying in prince of persia

yeah that was the one...my bad.

I watched Casino Royale earlier and had it on my brain

It's a known fact that high profile actors can widen the appeal for a movie. Yes Superman has a fanbase but the goal is to reach beyond the fanbase. It's a competitive market and December is a tough month with people spending a lot of money on other things like travel and gifts. Many people will see 1 or 2 films max in that month and not all of those people are going to be hardcore Superman fans. Throw together a group of well known actors and you can peak peoples' interest. Do you guys think a film like Pirate of the Caribbean would of made the money it did if it had 3 unknown actors in the leads? I'm happy that Cavill was cast and I hope he builds a fanbase by 2012. But commercial appeal is what will bring sequels.

I like Gemma though I'm not sure if I see Lois in her. I do think she has the talent, looks, and name draw. She is also a good age. I've never heard her do an American accent though.

i guess no one cared for my abigail spencer idea?

1. like astrodust i don't doubt her ability, but i've never heard gemma's american accent
2. alive eve as cat grant? no. saw 'she's out of my league' not only does her accent slip frequently, but her facial features are distinctly english. literally, first shot of her in the movie i pointed at the screen and said 'english.' she looks like an extra hot billie piper.

Does anyone remember on how long we had to wait for the casting news of Lois Lane after Brandon Routh had been announced to play the main role back in 2004? I wonder if we might experience a similar timespan in terms of how long we'd have to wait to hear something official and concrete.

Doubt it, unless Snyder and WB decide to go with a very low profile actress for Lois. The longer they wait, the more chance of scheduling conflicts. My guess is by the end of February we get Lois cast. And the sooner they cast her the more it seems like they know what they are doing. I'd be really worried if Lois was cast in April or later.
