The Amazing Spider-Man The Official Marc Webb Thread

I can't wait for the indie hipster Spider-Man! :hehe:

But no, I loved (500) Days of Summer so damn much.

It just goes to show how "out of left field" Sony goes when it comes to picking directors.

So villains are taking a back seat to teenage angst? Good lads Sony. :awesome:

Finished watching (500) Days of Summer. I enjoyed it thoroughly. I'm really looking forward to Webbs direction of Peter Parker now. Raimi gave us some great action pieces, but except for his villains, I barely liked any of the other characters in the Movies.

Webb might deliver a Peter Parker and Mary Jane that I'll actually be able to like this time.

He didn't mean you. Someone got banned and his post got removed along with him.

Still need to see 500 days of Summer.

Until then, just going to wait to hear about casting.

Nothing against Webb... but nothing good to say about him. I don't know his work. Got to see 500 Days... fast...

Probably thinking they can hire 2 cents director, crew and cast :p

Just to expand upon my "Solid choice" comment earlier. . .

I adore Webb. I've said before that he was my top pick. His music videos are masterful (And many of them use SFX, so he's not incredibly unfamiliar in that area. Plus, a music video is only made for a couple hundred thousand dollars, so he's also familiar with handling money properly).

(500) Days of Summer is currently my favorite movie. I saw it twice in theaters, and since getting it on bluray, it's been on constant rotation on my television.

:awesome:

Is Sony seriously trying to make this movie for 80 million?

I doubt it's true. Only $80 Million is a massive reduction of the standard Spider-Man budget. But depending on the location and villain they use, $80 might be sufficient.

For $80 Million I'd be totally using the Lizard, a lot of the effects could be done practical. Just look at AvP:R (yes, yes, horrible story), but it looked pretty good for a Movie that only had a budget around $60 Million.

There might be less swinging involved, unless they use more close-ups with actual stuntmen and green screen.

lizard is effects heavy, I'm thinking more kraven.

With Lizard, you need a lot of CGI for the head, maybe tail... you could use a suit for most of the body...

I was checking, and Wolverine had a supposed $150 million budget, paying for some serious casting, and ****** sfx...

the one upside for a 80m budget is that will force them to get more creative with the effects and where you can do something practically rather than digitally. spidey wears a full mask you can get a gymnast to do a lot of the spidey spidey does (and use clever camera cuts).

Lizard could be a guy in a suit. Think Alien mixed with Jurassic park. And depending on how much you want to expose him to the audience, the use of CGI varies.

Kraven simply wouldn't be enough to draw the audience.

they would save a bundle by moving the set out of new york (use stock footage for arial shots)

they would save a bundle by casting complete unknowns

they would save a bundle by doing a lot of the effects practically

they would save a bundle by having a human villian (kraven, chameleon, mysterio)

Cast Brian Steele as The Lizard, and i might be encouraged.

But supposedly Sony was against The Lizard in the Raimi age ( :p ), why would they be ok now?

since they aren't using dylan baker anymore I'm a lot less bothered about seeing the lizard

Like I said, a budget "in the range" of $80 million for a character like Spider-Man (who requires money to be spent to properly pull off) is not a good sign. I assumed the roof Sony was putting over Webb would be around $150-$175 million. But under $100 million? Stan Lee and Steve Ditko weep...

Him or Ian Whyte. Ian gained experience from the AvP Movies and he's freaking huge. 7'1" or 7'2" without a suit.

How large is the Lizard supposed to be anyway?
