The Amazing Spider-Man The Official Marc Webb Thread

BB also has Michael Cain, Morgan Freeman, Katie Holmes, and Liam Neeson. . .

Right, and you won't be seeing even close to those caliber actors in a Spider-Man reboot. So...yeah.

Firstly it says "in the range"

Secondly, nothing is ever set in stone.

Thirdly, Sony isn't going to make a movie that looks cheap. Not where their biggest franchise is concerned.

Fourthly, I always love the beginning process of movies where we all need to freak out over one sentence we read in one article and debate it for the next year and a half.

They're not going to suddenly say, ok here is 150 million. If the 80 million turns out to be true they are going after the Twilight crowd, which is fine. It is what it is. Let's not pull wool over our eyes.

What's with your Sony comment in your signature then?

The fact that it's said Webb is getting 10 million makes me very iffy of that 80 million budget. That only leaves 70 million for a cast of characters that is not doubt pretty big. (Aunt May, kids at the school like Harry, Gwen, Flash, possibly MJ, the Bugle, the villain.)

Then the fx. There's no way the budget is 80 million. It's practically impossible even with little known actors.

which actually may help spidey to look more realistic.

example: train fight where spidey and ock are on the side of the train, that could have been done practically by tilting the train by 90 degrees (so the side is flat with the floor) and standing ock and spidey on the top and then flipping it back 90 degrees so it looks like spidey and ock are on the side of the train.

Sometimes there was no need for a CGI Spidey at all. Best example I can think of is when he fought Goblin in the burning apartment. Couldn't they seriously just have a guy do a spin and jump?

In that case, get ready to see Morbius in the film. :hehe:

Nikke Finke says that the amount Webb is rumored to be making ($10 Million) is inaccurate

And if you think about it, it makes no sense for Webb to be making $10 Million

I could be wrong but I highly doubt that. The Twilight crowd? Spider-Man regardless of anything has and always will be known as movies/comics for "dorks/nerds" I think Marvel knows they have always been aimed at people like us, not little teen girls. I highly doubt even if they did try to do that, it would go well, they are not going to be able to sway those girls over due to the fact that they see it as Nerdy Spider-Man.

I just highly doubt that Sony (yes I know studios can be dumb) is that stupid to alienate its entire core that made them money in the past. Regardless Twilight never got close to the money that The other Spidey films have made. So they will be safe most likely and continue to aim at the same people. Yea companies can be stupid, but I just doubt this stupid. Though I've been wrong before, and I can't see into the future I highly doubt it.

I just find it odd when people hear...."high school" any more they go Twilight. I guess that is some odd association. But that's me.

I guess we should just wait and see, I"m sure Sony sees us bickering about the budget now. Hehe...they are always watching.

Still. The cast alone will eat up half the budget. Spider-Man has alot of supporting players.

Maybe Sony wants to do the movie in the 300's green screen "style"?

no way could someone have done that, spidey spins 360 degrees in the air whilst avoiding goblin blades.

Not really, if they do go all unknowns they won't even have to shell out a million on most of of the actors

$80 Million will not be enough to pull off any reasonable amount of moderately impressive Spider-Man-ing, though. And the villain would have to be someone like Kraven or Rhino

rhino? he is going to be one of the most expensive villians to realise, not cheapest. he can tear up new york, throw cars etc.

This is not looking too good from the perspective of a Spider-man purist who hates USM and hated the Raimi film's focus of PP's private life and not so much on action...

Ugh.

laugh out loud if the people complaining with the amount of spidey screen in raimi's spidey movies got LESS spidey screen time in webb's.

yeah LOL...ha, ha...oh bugger :barf:

The Spider Man films were never aimed at "people like us" they were aimed at the general public as they should have been

You think a cast of relative unknowns and an 80 million dollar budget featuring a story about teen angst in high school is aimed at "us" ie film/comicbook geeks? I don't see it. It's also not aimed at the general public as a whole either. They are targeting a certain demo here.

The reason for the smaller budget, whether it be 80, 90, or 100, is because the film can make less and still be a success. Look at the budgets for the first two Twilight movies with such an immense return. This among some of the above other points unfortunately equals the comparison.

Well, if you look at the director getting the average 7% against the final budget, he would be pulling in 5.5 Million for this film alone, based on the 80 million number. (Which I know isn't final) I did the number in my head quick so not sure if it is accurate. Of course that 5.5 could be lower or higher because every situation is completely different. That is just based on the average.

I'll take a wait and see approach. I don't know much about this guy, but I'm willing to give him a chance. Good luck, Webb!

I disagree with this entirely. But I guess we will wait and see. There is not much we can do but guess right now.

I hope they do aim it towards us/the GA in terms of everything. But I'm sure the budget will be higher then 80, especially if Webb already got 10 mil.

That's fine. Thats why we are here.

In regards to the 10 million, if I were you I wouldn't believe that. :cwink:

Yea possibly. I mean I don't know if I even believe the 80 million yet. And Sony is probably watching the reactions to that, and I'm sure they will correct it.

I guess I"m the optimistic one cuz I love 500 Days of Summer and am hoping for the best, but I'm a realist too, so I guess I will wait for more info.

Jamie, what do you expect from her. She breaks news and you got to give her credit, but she takes credit where it isn't due as well.

Damn ethics. I do believe in giving credit when it's due - regardless of my personal feelings. She feels otherwise. Which is fine. But that attitude tends to come back to haunt people. Ironically I actually like her and her site.

Making matters worse is her hiring Michael Fleming. Formerly of Variety and big on stealing info from others and claiming it as his own. Hence why I don't ever give credit to that trade outlet anymore. ****. Em.
