The Amazing Spider-Man The Official Marc Webb Thread

I just don't see any logical way to do Spider-Man with that low of a budget. Even with actors they can pay chump change, the cast is likely to be large. Then you have to pay extras as well (which with it being in high school and a major city there will be lots of.)

Then you throw in the crew, Webb, sfxs, 80 million just doesn't make sense.

Right, and you won't be seeing even close to those caliber actors in a Spider-Man reboot. So...yeah.

They're not going to suddenly say, ok here is 150 million. If the 80 million turns out to be true they are going after the Twilight crowd, which is fine. It is what it is. Let's not pull wool over our eyes.

What's with your Sony comment in your signature then?
NOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOO

I can't imagine this guy making $10 Million for one film. It could be possible that the 1st film plus the two options for next two films equal $10 million. That makes more sense. I can't imagine him making much more than $5 million if that.

This guy has one film on his resume, and they're handing him one of the biggest movie cash cows of all time? Hmm....

Hellboy 2 was made for 85 million btw

then again hellboy is'nt even in the same ballpark as spider man when it comes to spectacle

Hellboy II has more spectacle then all 3 Spidey movies.

Yep. That I agree with, but the thing is Del Toro had been doing spectacle on a relatively cheap budget all his career, so.

Spiderman had a pretty good following on its own and made a ton with spiderman 3. Why would they be "Going after the twilight crowd". They already have a crowd of its own..

honestly budget doesn't bother me, the technology is better and cheaper than what is was when the first was released

all i care about is true characters and a decent story

Same here. Plus, Sony has a script they like, and according to them, that script costs $80 million to make. :/

I don't think Sony has a $200 million script, and is deciding to spend half the amount on it. That's absurd.

It's a "dark and gritty" movie being made by a virtually unknown director, starring a cast of unknowns.

PS- Why am I defending a movie I don't even want to see made? :cmad: Oh, cause I love Webb. :o

To put it in perspective, the first Alvin and the Chipmunks movie had a budget of 80 mil. Jason Lee and David Cross didn't get that much, and that money went to CG and all the big ass setpieces they had to put together.

You know I just doubt it will be 80 million. And even if so, here will be the reasons to Sony if they truly are trying to go after the "Twilight Crowd" which I doubt, that why it would fail.

First, like Nightmare said, Spidey already has a built in audience of around 800 million dollars worth of people. So there would be no reason to completely do an about face to those that did like the more "non Twilight" way of doing things.

Twilight made 384 million its first go. That was the first in the series, with already a following fanbase because of the huge selling books. This and they were always and still are aimed at women, and what a majority of women like to read.

Spider-Man ( I mean this in no way to the women readers of Spidey) is not primarily aimed at women. I know very few women who read Spidey comic books, and not near the numbers of them , as there are with Twilight. Spidey is aimed at males for the most part and always has been, (sadly) most comics are aimed at males. It is just the way it goes. So it would be stupid to even think about, hey lets get the Twilight audience of 300 million instead of the audience of about 900 million we had going before.

The reason I think Sony is not doing this is for that reason. Why would they do that? Aiming at high school girls is not a big audience, and its not one that is pre-aimed at them already. Spider-man is aimed more at males if anything, to me it would be near impossible to turn Spider-Man into a "Twilight esque" kind of story. Women like Vampires right now. Not superheros.

I just don't think Sony is THAT dumb. I know studios can be ******ed, but this I just doubt it. I mean if anything us bickering about it will get Sony's attention and maybe my post would too. I doubt it needs to though. Because moving in on the Twilight people is pointless, it won't make them as much money, and it won't be an easy sale.

So still waiting for more news, I just kinda think going "Twilight" is unlikely. I just think the paranoia of the Internet has struck. But who knows if I'm wrong, well then I'm wrong.

is this a joke or an insult?

Studios lie about budgets all.the.time. If you take them at their word in that department, please...stop talking...

Have you seen Alvin and the Chipmunks? There really was some elaborate concert stage pieces and more. And none of the voice actors for the Chipmunks would cost that much money either.

I didn't like (500) Days of Summer. But there was most definitely talent involved. Considering the style of that film, I could have seen Webb easily doing a more "requel" centered Spider-Man 4 (i.e. new actors as Peter, MJ, etc. with Simmons, Harris & Co. still around and not directly reference the previous films).

Him doing this reboot is fine too. It's just everything else about it that concerns me.

I personally feel that they need to consider known actors for the Villains and Aunt May and older actors. Its fine if going for younger teens to around 20 but Spider-Man main point if the Villains and that's where there casting money should go.

i am suprised how fast this is all going. in less then 2 weeks they replaced Raimi and already have a new director with a realese date.
