So here was a early look at ME4 from E3.

So two guesses from my perspective:

Game is set after ME3 but is going to be set in a whole new unexplored area of space per Hudson's statements, sort of a Mass Effect Frontier if you will.

Main character will be N7 but race will be selectable, this is from PAX when they were asking people what races they would be interested in playing.

A new Mass Effect is in development, Electronic Arts and Bioware announced this afternoon at an E3 press conference. The game is in development for “new consoles” and is being handled by BioWare Montreal.

The new Mass Effect will have new characters, places and people to fall in love with.

Meanwhile, BioWare Edmonton is working on a brand new I.P., but specific details regarding this game were not revealed.

Also thinking race will be selectable, because it's about time, and also because the helmet seems built for variations. That'll be interesting though, seeing as how N7 is human specops, last time I checked.

If this ME is actually set after 3, the Alliance could very well be multi-species.

I do remember that they were unofficially allowing aliens working with their N7 units to call themselves N7 for morale purposes.

Obviously the whole N7 iconography has become important to the series from a marketing perspective. Heck, I have a N7 shirt so I can see why they'd want to keep it around.

Hm, wasn't much of the galaxy populated and explored in the ME universe?

I think it was a actually something like 1%.

Space is big, yo.

Remember we only recently discovered the f second shadow brokers race before we became the third shadow broker along with liara so there's plenty more out there I'm sure. Well at least the the reapers didn't touch yet at least.

well they have two titles happening we'll find out more when their ready. I guess. like the new protagonist we'll be place and what race he or she will be or what we'll be creating our selves to be that protagonist.

Its tough knowing we probably won't see anything about this until E3 of next year.

Not to mention EA did the same with battle front they are making sure to drag it out and only show stuff when they are ready to.

I really hope this takes place several hundred/thousands of years after ME3. I really want the universe to have recovered the events of the last trilogy and Shephard's memory living on as a legend. It can be a quasi-reboot of sorts, where the last stuff clearly happened but isn't necessary for understanding the new saga that they are setting forward with

Yeah I agree with you here. Would be nice to see. Dang now I really wanna go back and play the trilogy again. Been a while.

What I'm curious about most, is how they will handle building a new story with the ABC endings of Mass Effect 3.

Which one will be default/canon? Or do you think they will just leave it ambiguous?

I think they are going to leave it ambiguous, especially if this is set in unexplored space.

I hope they keep the lgbt option for the next one! Anyone already planning what their new character will look like?

I think I'll play as an asian male character this time. I haven't seen many Asians in big budget sci fi games. Probably go for someone who looks a bit like

That felt like a pitch trailer you'd present to the EA shareholders at a meeting. I too was hoping for a bit more.

You look at the Battlefront and Mirror's Edge it was similar stuff. EA clearly had trouble filling up their panel this year and basically scrambled for whatever they could grab.

I'm not expecting too much at this point honestly. There will probably be a few screenshots and maybe a short teaser but I don't think we'll see the whole game in action for a bit longer yet.
