Him not being a fan doesnt change his performance in any way and that's all that matters. If anything, it'll be less forced, as in less influenced by the comicbook, and "realistic".

"I can’t even read comic books. I don’t know which panel to look at next."

Priceless.

I find with Shannon as well, that it's easier to come away with what he actually meant when you watch video interviews than written ones.

I've read something he said before and thought he sounded off, then watched the video of it and realised it was actually in jest, but he has this really weird sense of humour :)

So now I take most of what I infer from reading interviews with a pinch of salt.

Besides, yes he isn't all that interested in comics. And he may not even be all that interested in Superman.

But he is interested in delivering the best performance possible.

And isn't that really all that matters?

The fact that he doesn't read or like comics, but still chose to do this role in this movie, says to me that he believes in the script and production in general.

It says he likes the money and the exposure playing a villain in a big superhero franchise brings.

Well obviously that too. But he wouldn't wanna be attached to a stinker, that wouldn't do his career any favours.

Well I don't necessarily think it means Superman is a "stinker" either way, but big actors choose movies all the time that end up bombing.

Did being in Green Lantern hurt Mark Strong, Geoffrey Rush, or Tim Robbins? I don't think so.

lol yeah but so did fassbender and brolin

but i have confidence amy adams brings more confidence than anything she hardly ever picks bad projects

Michael Shannon was in Mullitt.

Therefore everything he says and does is a 1,000 times more awesome than we mortals could ever hope to be.

Michael Shannon was the Racist KKK guy from BB2 everyone opinion is now invalid:cmad:

I don't know, it's just the way I interpreted it. You all will probably interpret it a different way......

“There are legions of fans salivating, who will literally spend the next year and a half looking at the clock, waiting for this movie,” Shannon said, shrugging his shoulders. “That’s just the way it is. I don’t know why. Me, personally, I’m not a huge fan. I can’t even read comic books. I don’t know which panel to look at next. I hardly ever know what any of the characters are talking about. So, no, I am not one of them. But there are a lot of them. They’re out there. And they really want to talk to me about this movie!”

Like I said, that's just the way I read it. I know that some of you are going to say "he doesn't sound disinterested, he just......"

I actually agree with him.

I'm a fan of screenplays written using this source material, not the source material itself.

Comics are nerdy, they cater to such a specific fanbase. Films like TDK can reach everyone.

As an actor, it makes perfect sense for him to have this perspective.

Back when Batman89 was released, I recall Burton saying something similar. Maybe it's visual dyslexia. :awesome:

Notice Brolin hasn't headlined a big movie where it's all on him since and Fassbender was an unknown (young and hungry and in need of work, i.e. couldn't afford to be picky).

Brolin has MIBIII, Gangster Squad and Oldboy coming up. He's doing alright for himself.

if anything the director got hurt lol no studio will think of giving him anything i would think he might go back to animation

And you know how the kids are going to go see Men in Black 3 for Brolin. Not my point. Jonah Hex was his chance to open a movie where he was clearly the lead. It failed and he's back in ensemble pieces.

Yep, that's just the reality of the situation.

To be fair, Jonah Hex was going to flop no matter who was in the lead role. If you had a time machine and transported 1970s Clint Eastwood to the present day and cast him as Jonah Hex, it still would have f***ing sucked.

I think comics can get kindof confusing at times, depending on how the panels and dialogue bubbles are laid out, where it's hard to tell how the artist intends you follow it.
