The Official Michael Shannon IS General Zod - Part 2

is anyone afraid that Zod will have a beard?

I would imagine that he will if that is indeed Shannon in the movie. But if he travels to Earth, I doubt that he will find a way to shave. He arrives and realizes he can do weird stuff he couldn't do on Krypton, so I doubt he will have time to figure out how to shave. At least that would be my logic behind a general who is not clean shaven and well groomed. :oldrazz:

the problem i would have with this is that Shannon doesnt look good with a beard. and Zod in Superman 2 had a beard.

You're placing American military standards on to an alien. While it is usual for American generals to be clean shaven (currently that is, since the history books are full of pictures of past American generals with beards).....there are plenty of pictures of current generals from various countries around the world who have beards.

I wouldn't care about the beard. I just don't want a big "Z" on his chest, or a small one, or a "Z" anywhere. Why would he have a "Z"? Superman has what looks like an "S" and then people on Earth think it looks like an "S" so Superman. But, he comes from another planet, and his alphabet also happens to look like ours and he has a "Z" and happens to be called Zod? No thanks on that.

Could be that he is bearded. But he does have the close cropped hair and I would imagine if he is proud of his appearance and uniform, unless it is a well groomed beard, I doubt he will be sporting much of a beard. I guess it will depend on what they do with him. I would imagine that either a guy who is traveling through space, or is at battle would have a beard, or maybe the Kryptonians will have the beard like Jor-El seems to have. I am guessing they will just go with whatever looks best with the suit since no one is really going to care about whether he shaves or not or much less how he learns to shave in the Earth's atmosphere.

how do you want Zod to be portrayed in the film?

I hope he's more than a 1 dimensional villain who just wants ppl to kneel before him......

It's fine if he has a beard; it can't look that bad on him. Its not going to matter that a previous version had facial hair. I don't think such a minor thing would prevent an actor of Shannon's caliber from making the character his own.

Definitely. If Zod is just about "Kneel" then that is going to be a rehash of the same Zod we already saw. It was fine for its time but pretty campy. A guy that wants to rule for no reason, except to rule when he doesn't need anything to get anything all that he wants. He should be out to kill Superman and the Kryptonian ship that brought him to Earth. That is really the only things that he should be interested in Earth. He shouldn't care about ruling over humans because he is not human, and shouldn't care about just destroying at random just because. He should arrive because of Superman. Not arrive because he just happens to land on "planet Houston" to rule.

I do think the "Kneel" line should be used just cuz.....well......it's become associated with the character........lol

but only once........perhaps when Zod thinks he has Superman beat and says "Now, son of Jor-El. Kneel before Zod!"

as for his motivations........I wouldn't mind if Zod has a "Kryptonian Supremacist" attitude. He doesn't want to rule over Earth. He wants to wipe out us inferior humans and rebuild Krypton here on Earth.

Something like that. I just don't want to see him arrive on planet Smallville or whatever, speaking perfect English and wanting to shoot himself with noise makers or burn snakes and just look for attention. Obviously he would know he could kill everyone in the blink of an eye and then what? Sit in the White House and smash reporters and then what? He has no purpose for money, he has no purpose for people. He is just doing for... fun? I want some motivation. If he has no motivation, he definitely needs to be freakier. Like I have said here before, I want a more Hannibal Lector Zod than a more King Xerxes Zod.

agreed.

I also want to learn more about his backstory and his time as a Kryptonian general.

What did he do that led the council to sentence him to the Phantom Zone? What was his crime?

I don't really remember if the Donner movies really expanded upon why Zod was sent to prison.....did they?

I don't remember, in the first part of the first movie, Brando is talking about the reason but I don't remember it.

In fairness to Smallville, they managed to incorporate the 'Kneel' line without making it seem like a one dimensional homage to the films.

Zod tried to overthrow the government.

oh....ok....

In the MOS story, I hope it's something more heinous.

like genocide. or Zod betrays Krypton and let's Darkseid invade.

Or Zod sabotages the BRANIAC AI program which leads to Krypton's destruction......

Or Zod stole all the rum......

In the first Reeve Superman movie...Zod is accused of sedition (attempting to overthrow the government), Ursa is said to have committed "heinous crimes that even threatened the children of Krypton", and non was their accomplice.

In the second Reeve Superman movie (and here you must remember that most of #2 was shot at the same time as #1 with some extra scenes shot later by a different director) it shows Zod, Ursa, and Non break into an unidentified secure area, kill a guard, and destroy a Kryptonian control crystal.

So, while the specifics of their crimes weren't delved into in depth....you get the idea that they were murderous terrorists with plans of world domination by any means even on Krypton.

ah....thanks!

it's just been so long since I saw those movies......lol

it will be interesting if they go a similar route for Zod and Faora in MOS.....

Looks like he has a goatee to me.

Oooo. Michael Shannon in a mo-cap suit? That's the single most exciting piece of MOS news I've heard in a long time. What are they planning to do with the look and presence of Zod if Shannon is doing mo-cap? Color me even more interested than ever.

Probably add some fake muscles, ahhhhhhhhh gone are the days when actors used to train to actually gain some size.

Relax fool I am just playing.

oh not so true... :cwink:

Chris Hemsworth - Thor
Hugh Jackman - Wolverine
Ryan Reynolds - Green Poop.. i mean Lantern
Chris Evans - Capt America

All of these guys REALLY bulked up and then shredded without the use of CGI.

but you are certainly correct in this case, that dude is going to be HUGE and i LOVE IT!!!

Edit - I just saw the tiny white letters... d'oh! :hehe:
