I also think that, because Kal-El is different, he may be the only hope for Zod to save the Kryptonian race, in a way. Otherwise I don't see why he wants him in his custody, revenge on Jor-El would be too cheap. There has to be more to the fact that Kal-El is unique.

Interesting theory.

If they went down that route, I'd guess that Kryptonians (being genetically engineered, according to the recent plot reports) may be actually created somehow in labs, rather than going through the usual biological method? And perhaps these genetically modified ones can't procreate by themselves.

If we assume that Kal-El is conceived naturally, he may be the only remaining Kryptonian male capable of carrying on their race, given that most of Krypton may be destroyed and their sciences lost.

Exactly what I had in mind.

Kal-El being the last son of Krypton, he may be the key to "creating" a pure new breed of Kryptonians. Maybe that's why Zod wants him to be "patriotic", and Kal-El is unsure if he wants to be the source of a new generation of soldiers and scientists that might cause another war and more destruction.

That's an interesting angle, I like it.

A slight problem with that theory: How then did Jor-El and Lara (who are presumably genetically engineered) conceive Kal-El? They should be infertile as well.

We don't know that. Maybe at some point during their time, conceiving became illegal, and that's why newer generations (Faora maybe) are only genetically engineered, but older ones such as Jor-El's are not. Besides, Jor-El is a scientist, so they come up with a thousand different explanations to how he was able to "fight" infertility (if it's present) by scientific means.

Good point. Now my brain hurts. Things are starting to get all Timey-Wimey!

It will be interesting to see how things play out. Hopefully they will give us some idea of the Kryptonian timeline and sequence of events. It would be nice to know roughly when the Kryptonians decided to start geneticly engineering their kids and when the ban on interstellar travel went into effect.

It varies since we've seen a few of the "just wanna preserve my species" goals from villains, but if they can swing it a different way, bring it.

Zod is beardless in the clip they showed of him in the trailer, so time is definitely going to pass before he makes it to Earth. And we're going to get a threat on young Kal-El, though it sounds a lot less like "He will kneel before Zod," and a lot more like "I'mma kill me a boy, smarty-pants." And the force field or hologram look implies that his armor does have some very cool futuristic features.

Maybe Zod actually needs the armor until he finally absorbs enough solar radiation to actually fight Kal-El. That would make a lot of sense. His suit would be his primary weapon up until late in the movie, and would explain why Faora's, with more martial arts experience, would be a bigger threat to Supes at first.

Let's see if he can top the crazy in that table flipping scene in Take Shelter. :awesome:

I'm so excited to see his performance.

Definitely scenery chewing. He's way less restrained than I thought he'd be.

I'm really looking forward to his take on Zod!

Me likey crazy Zod. Definitely going to be a highlight - an angry God abusing his power and knowing he's nigh untouchable. :awesome:

So Faora is meant to seduce Superman :P

Faora hates all men but reluctantly must try and sign Kal-El up to a breeding program to ensure the future of their race. He refuses, thus her beatdown. :funny:

I liked Michael Shannons physique in the trailer. The scene where he screams "I will find him!!" He looked quite cut and muscular. It may just be the body suit, but Shannon has been sort of lanky and wirey in everything I've seen him in. I'm nearly certain he worked out and gained a bit of solid mass. Cant wait to see him and Cavil kick the crap out of each other.

It's the muscle suit based on the pictures of him on set in street clothes with a walking stick. Honestly, I thought he almost looked sickly and frail with that cane.

Yeah, that was Shannon on set during the filming of Man of Steel in Vancouver or Chicago.

Looks like Mr Wayne in the begining of TDKR. He looks as though one swift kick from Anne Hathaway would floor him.

Michael Shannon is in a position to surpass Terrence Stamp and Callum Blue as the best Zod.

I can see Zod as Man of Steel equivalent to Batman Begins' Ra's Al Ghul.

Best part of the trailer. Shannon is always an underrated acting tour de force. He is bringing it in the trailer.

Shannon was a perfect parallel to Crowe in this trailer. Crowes Jor-El is still calm, even when things are going to ****. Shannons Zod, however, is seething with anger and anything but calm.
