The Official Michael Shannon IS General Zod - Part 3

He's kind of like a cross between the two, with some of Walken's weirdness but Nicholson's manic intensity.

Zod's got multiple scars on his face, and it's pretty much confirmed he's actually grown older since the fall of Krypton while his crew's stayed young.

Zod's heat vision is incredible!

If that's from the same scene as the one where Superman gets thrown into the bank vault, then that'll be my favorite fight in the movie, I believe.

I wonder how Zod will interact with the human characters.
It would be nice if he wasn't automatically contemptuous of the Earth and treated people with a certain level of respect before he has to get nasty.
As a General, it makes sense for Zod to at least attempt to be diplomatic, even if humans are far weaker than himself.

The bank vault is from during the Smallville fight whereas the urban setting of the heat vision seems to imply it is from the Metropolis battle. However, the shot of Zod jumping on the military jet appears to be from the Smallville battle so that is at least something. The plane Zod jumps on is an A-10 Warthog, which is the same type of aircraft seen gunning down Supes when is on the main street of Smallville, whereas the only jets seen in Metropolis shots are F-35s.

Earlier this week I was on the set of Boardwalk Empire for a few days doing a bit part, and I just wanted to say how wonderful Michael Shannon is. Completely professional, very intense (not aggressive or mean, just focused) and a total joy to be around. I didn't want to bring up Zod because he is in the midst of the season, but I am 100% convinced that he is going to be phenomenal in the role. If it is a well-written as we all hope, General Zod has a chance of being one of the great villains we've seen in a comic book film (and here's hoping he survives so we can see him again).

By the way, for any Boardwalk Empire fans, keep a lookout for episode 5 of the upcoming season (directed by Tim Van Patton). Let's just say you won't want to miss it.

“I’ve seen the movie and it’s stunning, a work of art,” he said. While Shannon plays another heavy, it’s a unique addition to his vivid portrait gallery. “General Zod is very different for me and very different from what Terence Stamp did. I remember seeing the movie when I was a kid, being completely blown away by him. But I’m not going to impersonate him. That would be ridiculous.”

wasn't overly thrilled at first when Shannon was cast since the most I had seen him in was bit parts in movies like Kangaroo Jack (yes, Zod is in Kangaroo Jack lol). But after seeing movies like Revolutionary Road, his part on HBO's Boardwalk Empire and ofcourse what we have seen from Man Of Steel.....he's going to do fine....above and beyond fine, he's going to re-define the character :D

Iceman, Take Shelter, Bug.

That is all.

Cumberbatch is the man to beat this year but Shannon isn't a lightweight. I'm very interested in seeing his interpretation for Zod.

May the best villain win.

Crowe's and Shannon's endorsements for the film make me much more hopeful of the film's quality. Granted, they are blowing their own horns, but you normally don't see respectable actors making overly-enthusiastic comments about films they think are crap. The jury is still out on whether Man of Steel will stand amongst the best in the genre, but at least now we have greater assurances that it is a good film.

I was just watching Take Shelter last night. Why Shannon didn't get an Oscar nomination for that movie is beyond me.

I think Shannon is going to knock it out of the park. He's going to be great.

You guys also need to check out Mullitt. I'm telling you... it's Zod's best performance EVER. ;)

Dat haircut. Dat scar. Dat stare. Dat Shannon.

I love it.

He seems totally convinced he's not doing anything wrong. I totally get what Shannon keeps saying that Zod views himself as this savior for Kryptonians and sees Kal El as this huge hiccup in the road and Superman denying his offer will genuinely piss him off.

The look he gives in the latest trailer when briefly turning around and walking away shows such a great subtle look of a disdain and disappointment.

That new trailer, man....Shannon nailed it. Immensely.

^Seriously. If you weren't scared of Zod before, you are now.

Speaking of the new trailer, is it me or does Zod's hair look even more grey here than we have previously seen?

I think that makes sense considering that we've seen more shots of him on Krypton than on Earth, where there's like a 25 year difference in the timeline.

Also, I wonder if World Domination will even be something that Zod will consider at some point in the film or if his only goal is to subdue Superman.

Sorry, should have clarified, I meant in comparison to the other images we have seen of Zod on Earth. Might just be the lighting now that I think about it.
