No, not becoming relevant again. They already are as was seen with the release of SF IV and later MK, the two juggernauts that helped start the movement in the 90s. Theres been kind of a reversal as its the 2D fighters that are now the biggest whereas the 3D ones have lost their way

you talking 3D graphics or 3D gameplay? because the only 3d fighters I can think if are UFC and wwe... do those games even play in 3D?

Im talking gameplay. MK and SF both use 3D graphics but those run on a 2D plane. As for UFC and WWE, those are more sport entertainment than fighting genre, at least in the traditional sense thats being discussed here

well then yeah, that goes back to what i was saying before in that i cannot even think of any fighting games that are 3D

The Soul Calibur games also come to mind.......

yeah Namco still does them. LOL....its ironic XtremelyBaneful would forget that. Virtua Fighter is as well, but its remained dormant outside of that re-release of 5 2 years ago. There's also Dead or Alive and the Naruto titles

yep.

What horror stories? I rember the first like month there was a lot of talk about ps4 and the consers have some problem I don't rember what it was but I have heard any thing sences then. I am really surprise that we haven't heard about xbox one's breaking a lot though because both xbox and xbox 360 brook a lot and way more then ps2 or ps3 did so I thought xbox one would have a majore issue again.

Google the words PS4 and fan.

Actually, the Xbone is over-designed. They really went out of their way to make sure it wouldn't have problems, and as a result, it's the size of a VCR.

well that's what I was asking, if we were talking 2d graphics or gameplay. and no, tekken is not 3d, it's got 3d graphics but it is 2.5d at most with the sidestepping.

Tekken is 3D. Its not confined to one 2D plane. You can move about across the level in all directions, into and out of the plane. That by definition makes it a 3D fighter. Its not simply left/right, up/down as is the case with SF

speaking of fighting games, can't wait till there are more to choose from on the new gen systems.

I hope we'll finally hear something from that Tekken X Street Fighter Project.

Even if it is officially considered a 3D fighter, I still consider it 2.5D at most. You jump up down, step back & towards the opponent, and only sidestep forward and background. The movement's not meant to be fluid and that's why Tekken and most if not all other fighting games are played best with a DPad instead of the left joystick.

A fighting game I would consider 3D is Yakuza, but that isn't really at all a fighting game except for the combat. And during the combat, instead of being on the side of the player and the opponent, the camera is behind the player giving range for 3 dimensional directions. But I can't think of ANY fighting games that play like that normally.

I think Katsuhiro Harada said TxSF was supposed to come out after TTT2 (because back before IT was released, the word was that it was gonna be released in between the launches of SFxT and TxSF) buuuuuut I guess that's null and void now that there's more info going on about T7.

I could actually see Sony caving in, except for mkv file support as soon as before Christmas.

So, anyone wanna bet on how long before the PS4 gets local media playback?

I have a feeling it's coming in the next few months. at least by the Holidays.

with MS announcing it's coming soon in a future update on the X1, and Sony announcing Firmware 2.0 with "more features to be announced," I have a feeling we'll see the feature on both consoles in a few months.

Also, on the official PS blog post that announced the 2.0 update, there were many, many comments asking for the media playback ( as well as UI organization, external hdd support, DLNA, etc. ). and a few of those comments received direct replies from the Sony guy who created the blog post, basically saying "pay attention to those features" or "we have more features to be announced for the 2.0 update."

ohhhhhh, i did not know this was the technical term for it. does local media playback also mean flash drive support?

I would believe so, yes.

now, the big question will be, for both consoles, will they just let you play the media from a flash drive? or, will they actually let you store those media files on your console?

The X1 announcement didn't really say anything about storing those files, just playing them from a USB drive.

so.......we'll see.

so firmware update 2.0 is software that hasn't been released yet, but is supposed to be one of those really brolic ones?

the only feature i've heard of so far is shareplay, is there a list of features that's been announced?

Like with 3d Blu-Ray support, Sony almost has to make a move now.

If X1 gets this feature first in the next few months, and Sony has yet to announce it still, you can bet the chorus of customers demanding those basic features will only get louder.

brolic? not sure what you mean by that.....

but, yeah, Shareplay was the big feature they highlighted in their announcement of the 2.0 update. with more features to be announced.
