Mine lasts quite a bit, not as long as the DS3, but I would say the Wii U pad lasts less.

That's absolutely wrong. My group of friends can't get through two hous of Diablo without recharging it. The battery life is the WORST when compared to any wireless controller I've ever had. They could fix it by patching the controller and allow us to turn off the sensor bar. It can't be that important.

I'd say 3-4 hours.. Tops. And that's stretching it.. The XB1 battery life destroys it.

how long does the X1 battery typically last?

My PS4 controller lasts over 6 hours, and everyone I know gets the same time out of theirs. If yours is dying in 2 hours youve got a defective controller and need to contact Sony for a replacement. Either that or you and your friends are getting caught up in the game and 6 hours just feels like 2.

Yeah mine lasts way longer than 2 hours. The battery life hasn't been an issue for me. 2 hours sounds defective

I don't think it's defective.. I've had two. If I have to get another one I'll just chalk this up as the worst controller ever.

Speaking of which.. My rubber grips on my joysticks are ripping off already. I am disappoint.

that sounds about right

Its not the controller. Its you. Your grips should not be ripping off either. Idk what exactly you do to your controllers, but it sounds like you are subjecting that thing to abuse no sensible person or Sony ever expected them to stand up to. You cant expect any electronic device to stand up to constant abuse. Either you are exagerating greatly or you mistreat your electronics. Either way the PS4 controllers get at least 6 hours of battery life. If yours isnt there is only a few possibilities. Its defective. Youre not charging them to a full charge. Or you regularly toss the thing and have damaged the lithium battery. Or youve damaged it in some other way.

Are you letting the controller charge over night or are you charging it while using it? Cause if you are charging the controller while using it then its not going to get a good charge.

i'm not sure of the situation exactly, but i do know that the dualshock 4 does have some cosmetic issues, particularly the analog sticks

That to me is an indication that people are playing their PS4 entirely too much or are bearing down on those sticks. Rubber can only be expected to take so much abuse. If youre playing all day every day or take frustration out on the controller its going to wear down. And frankly sony shouldnt be expected to build a $65 controller to withstand a gaming addict's 24 hour daily rage fueled gaming sessions.

be that as it may, but there is no equivalent problem on the xbone's controller. and that has to mean something

No doubt but there are so many factors involved here that could be contributing to these issues that Im not gonna lay the blame entirely on sony. XBox controllers in general feel a bit more hefty and durable and always have and great on Microsoft for building one that can withstand more abuse, but like I said Sony shouldnt be expected to make a controller that can withstand some of the abuse Ive seen gamers inflict on their controllers. If the grips come off let that be an indication that maybe youre bearing down or being too rough and lighten up on the controller. If the grip still comes off after that then sure there is a legitimate issue with the rubber.

Ill say this, the lip thats on the stick that Sony put on there for better grip does encourage more aggressive pulling on the stick and games themselves do at times expect you to treat your controller like its your whipping boy (Im looking at you God of War :argh:) so I think the blame for the controller issues is a result of many parties having unrealistic expectations about what a device that is essentially made out of recycled coke bottle plastic and cheap rubber can withstand.

My biggest gripe is cost...and that damn battery sucking lightbar. The price is too high given what the thing is made out of. Nothing in those controllers costs that much or is new tech so charging $65 is outrageous as far as Im concerned. Drop the price of controllers and give us the option to turn off that lightbar and itd make gamers much happier.

It's not me. I take care of my electronics more than any normal human being. Yes, I let it charge over night and no I don't "play it too much." With a full time job, wife and two kids my game time is a regulated to night time for a few hours.

The controller doesn't stack up, I love the design but it's crap compared to the one controller.

And even if six hours is Max charge time that's still pretty crappy when I compare it to the time my One and hell the 360 controller gets

That's the thing.. If these controllers were 30 bucks.. I honestly wouldn't care.. But damn near 70?! Come on now.

what's the biggest drain on the DS4's charge?

the stupid, largely useless light bar?

Yes. It glares a bright stupid color.. Even on the dimmest setting.

Yep. That light is whats doing it. The only other "new" feature is the touch pad and I doubt its pulling much battery. The light is supposedly for the virtual reality headset thing thats coming out sometime in the future. Least thats what Ive heard. Regardless not allowing us to turn it off is a massive load of BS on Sony's part. Ive considered opening the controller up and trying to disconnect it.

Could a software update allow for it to be turned off?

Yeah. Theyve already given us one update so we could dim it. For some reason the update didnt include an off option. Sony refuses to give any decent reason for this.

So is six hours with dimming?

Cause a controller that has to be charged every six hours... kind of sucks.

At least the Wii U Gamepad has an excuse.

Fans went to Twitter, me being one, asking Shu to allow us to turn it off I'm a future update. His response was "No. The lightbar does not drain the battery much. Dim it."
