No Sony has sold those. They confirmed it. It's around 13.5. X1 may be around 7 now. At the end of November of course more.

So yes there is a difference. Trust me X-Knight....MS would not have dropped their console price 150 dollars in less than one year because it was doing well. They did it because it's not doing well.

well, we'll see how it plays out over the next 2 crucial holiday months.

Do you really think they will over take them? I know your excited about playing your new X1 but they are not going to sell 7 million units in two months.

But I'm sure they will do better from here on out. I'm not saying they won't. Don't expect PS4 to be dethroned. They have too big of a instilled market world wide.

ummm......I've never said I expected the X1 to overtake the PS4 over the next 2 months.

the point I've been trying to make is simply that the actual X1 sold numbers may be better than that 6m figure.

Yes and they probably are, I figure around 7 mil or a little more.

http://www.videogamer.com/news/ps4_sales_reach_13_5_million.html

Remember they said they SHIPPED 10 million units. They may have more now, but not near that much sold. Usually during the holidays companies ship tons of them. There is a difference between sold and shipped. I know VGChartz can be off a little bit, but usually they are in the ball park one way or another.

Exactly. They supplied stores with Black Friday units. Expect to see dozens of Xbox Ones stacked on store floors in 2 weeks as this is where these numbers are going towards

They may win these months...but not by a lot. Also....the latest numbers of SOLD (not shipped) have been 12.5 million PS4's and around 6 million X1's. Sony is still way way ahead of them. In America they may take November, but not Worldwide sales. They have a lot of catching up to do. Two months won't bring them significantly closer. It will help but not be an over night takeover.
Actually I'm pretty sure those Ps4's sales numbers were sold-through, not shipped, so it is sitting at around 13.5m. Still, even if the Xbone is way behind, it's possible that the Ps4's momentum has ceased and sales will begin to stay even, like now or after christmas.

look man, I want to make something perfectly clear.

pretend there's no Ps4. there's just the xbone. Its sales are not BAD. in fact, its sales are better than the 360 was at this point in time last gen. the thing is, is that (thus far) the Ps4 has just done WAY BETTER, and it makes the xbone LOOK bad. but it isn't doing BAD at all. with it all said and done, it really makes me feel like all microsoft wants is to win the console war this gen and don't care much for profit (seeing as how they've cut the price so much and gave away so many free games, I think they're hardly making profit off the xbone)

this price cut is supposed to be temporary right? you can bet your ass they'll probably just keep it at $350 from here on out.

Wasn't it someone who works/worked for Microsoft that stated last-gen that the first company to sell 10 mil. units wins the console war? Which is what Sony has already achieved.

you mean 10 mill right? and yeah, you may be right about that coz I've heard that somewhere else before.

I don't know if I agree with that though. the 360 was probably the first console last gen to reach that milestone, but then the wii (which was released a year later) matched it and eclipsed it, and the Ps3 (which was also released a year later) eventually caught up and matched it. I guess it also depends on how many units the 360 sold by the time its competition was released, but the Ps4 and xbone were released at the same time and the Wii U a year before, and it was quickly outsold.

We can all agree that the Ps2 won the 6th gen, but I don't think there is a consensus as to who won the 7th. I made a thread about it here and the results so far are quite surprising to me. I need more people to vote in it tho

Okay let's make things clearer for you. The thing is...no they did not cut it for fun. Yes...MS does care about profit. Every business does. They have things called stockholders. And if the Stockholders hear that a product is dumping money into it with no return they are not happy. This is a way to hopefully make long term gains. Is it doing terrible? No. But it's not doing well either. The thing is Sony's massive lead keeps growing and growing. So in a sense MS sees this as a possible long term loss. If Sony keeps going non-stop they will be obsolete and it would be even worse.

And as for the rest for the millionth time...Sony's not doomed so stop trying to spread that like some kind of fact.

But yes.....MS wants profit. But most consoles usually don't make much money off of the consoles it's the games they aim for to make their money. Sony is the only one making profit off of the console as well between the two. They have since launch. But the less consoles MS sells, the less games they sell, hence the less money they make. If they got too far behind more exclusives would just go to Sony because of the larger base.

MS is being smart about it, no doubts there. They will do a little better than they were. But Sony will most likely stay on top. People seem to forget...there are huge exclusives from Sony coming out. That's what the PS3 won with. And not in the first year either, it takes a while to make games We know in December there is the huge Sony event where many games will be announced. We know we have Bloodborne and Uncharted 4, and (some rumors) of The Last Guardian...finally. There are so many down the pipeline too. People seem to forget this including you. It's what helped the PS3 beat the 360 in the end. Right now the PS4 has such a lead, they may loose some of the gap but they will keep the momentum, because one thing Sony has focused on the ENTIRE time is it's all about GAMES. That has been their message from the get go with the PS4 and it continues to be so.

The first year is always crap for games, has been always. But people seem to have short memories on that. PS4 is not doomed.

It's been a long day.

Not going by a sales stand point here, but I think the 360 won. Just by how embraced it was by both the gaming community and developers at large.

PS3 did win in sales in the end. But in terms of embrace the 360 did for the first few years hands down. But that changed in 2009. After all the RROD, and Sony just pumping out great games it was a turning point. Lot's started moving towards Sony again. I would say in that way (not sales) it was a toss up. Both did well.

Word. every day is a long day for us. holla atcha boi

the 360 was definitely the most influential. Throughout the last 8 years, when the general public were thinking of video games, xbox was definitely the much more common name than playstation, and even wii or nintendo, since the latter saw barely any 3rd party support, and the biggest franchise which was call of duty, was biggest on 360.

bro, where in THAT post did I ever imply that sony was in trouble? they kinda are but the playstation 4 ain't going anywhere, and I wasn't saying otherwise about that in that post.

maybe I should make that clearer for you. I don't think sony is doomed in regards to video games or stuff like that, but in the past, I have felt that their future looks doubtful since microsoft is being so aggressive, and sony ain't doing much to match their aggression.

someone at neogaf thinks that the outcome of christmas will be the xbone at 10-11m sold, and the Ps4 at 19m sold... meaning the 2:1 ratio will be maintained even into 2015.

Ps2's first year was not bad. there was gran turismo 3 and tekken tag tournament and both those games were fan favorites. I also wouldn't say the Ps3 won in the end but got to match the 360.

I've said this time and time again, but even if the Ps3 thus far has sold more than the 360, it ain't by much. Even if it is a few million, what is a few million when we're talking tens of millions of consoles sold? Both are around 80m. They're tied. There's no clear cut winner like there was in the 5th and 6th gen.

Sony sees no reason right now. Sony is thinking long term. They have all their resources in to future games. They are doing well in sales so they don't have to do much. MS has been the one that HAD to match because they were ripping people off with their console at first. So now they have to save public face and make up for it. Which is good for them.

Regardless lots of consoles will go out this Christmas which is good for all of us because more devs will start making more next gen games since the base will expand greatly.

They didn't have to. It's not like the xbone wasn't moving at all. It just wasn't moving as good as the competition. and I don't think the kinect bundle was a ripoff. Aside from the 'always on, always watching' scheme/mechanism, I think the kinect is really cool. it's a shame it didn't continue to be an integrated xbox experience.

Yes they did have to. You don't seem to know MS's MO, and how they have always worked in the past. That and it's a business not some special entity. They have even admitted they have been hit. They don't make price drops because things are going well. See Sony. Yes there was X1's begin sold. But again...let's talk about the snowball effect. Multiplayer is one of the key pillars of consoles now. If someone goes up to their friends and says: "Hey I want to get a new console!" And 2/3 of their friends say they have PS4's...what's the likelyhood of them going with a PS4. If the gap gets bigger and bigger the more likely sales will continue to get worse for MS. MS realizes this so they made drops because yes it was hurting them, and their future sales. They had to do this. It was smart on their behalf. But they felt they had to.

your last sentence seems kind of like a double positive. It was smart... but they had to?

Personally I wouldn't care if a whole bunch of my friends got xbones last year (opposite of that actually) I'd still get a Ps4 for Uc4, much in the same way as many people buying xbones for halo.

I dunno man, I can't say I agree with you here

ok, to go back to the shipped vs sold debate again.

on the official PS blog, Sony posted a new infographic highlighting the achievements in the PS4's first year.

http://blog.us.playstation.com/2014/11/14/playstation-4-turns-one/

and it says 13.55m shipped worldwide. and again, shipped, not sold.

so, again I ask, what does that mean? when they say 13.55m shipped, that means 13.55m sold to customers? or 13.55m sold to retailers?

and if it means sold to customers, how come they say 13.55m shipped and not 13.55m sold.

again, it's just confusing to me.

Not really. MS has been stupid before and not done the obvious thing. Especially with the original 500 price point. They were smart for doing what they needed to do. Last time they said no, it hurt them greatly.

Never mind, I can see this will continue to go in circles.

It's an accounting thing. I forget exactly how they do it. The NPD and others have shown the sales, and the ones I have shown you.

But the thing is some companies will ship way more than the demand requires. Some do a more ship when needed. Again looking at the NPD numbers and sales, and the sites that talk sales world wide, say 13 million. They are the ones that track em.

Aww, I was wondering where that was going to go. Similar thoughts as well :cwink:

Ya I may have to back of this area for a while, not post as much. This used to be a great thread, with lots of different opinions but interesting discourse. Any more I just can't get into the discussions as well, and many go in circles.

ah, ok.

did the Oct. NPD report the sold #s for both consoles yet?

No nevermind, this isn't a useless discussion.

Tbh, I was kinda surprised how Microsoft decided to have the more expensive console this time around, I mean, they were there when the Ps3 was announced as $600. How dd they think it'd be okay?!

Maybe from the getgo, they should've had the unbundled kinect for $400 along with the bundle, but back then, didn't they claim the xbone needed the kinect to function?
