Tom Jane isn't a good Punisher because of past films he's been in? If you took a picture of him from that movie and compared it to him as the Punisher, its a completely different persona and look.

Plenty of actors have played against old typecasts. If I was a popular film director, I would never follow the typecasts. A lot of filmmakers are good at picking out qualities in actors that other people don't see in them and pulling amazing performances out of them that audiences would never expect.

Oliver Stone and Woody Harrelson in Natural Born Killers is a good example.

it might be too early to say whether or not ray is a good choice cuz we've yet to see him in full punisher glory, but i would say that judging by his appearance and his acting skill, he is indeed a good choice.

You have to admit posters like Obaketora and Rampage are discrediting TJ's performance for some ridiculous reasons (he looks gayer than Ray Stevenson in other movies/he's too pretty)...that being said I liked Thomas Jane, but Im looking forward to seeing what Ray Stevenson does with the character

Rampage is still my favorite troll the Punisher boards have to date - he simply looks for fun ways to attack people hardly ever contributing anything - then he claims he doesn't know anything about people being upset with him... I mean this must have just missed him cause it's another poster that I haven't cited yet who became annoyed with him - not because they don't like what he says, but because he has to insult someone every time he says anything for no better reason than to get attention.

I agree with you, and I already pointed this out about Rampage... and I hadn't really caught on to the fact that Obaketora purposely makes responses that illicit people to get up with him or flat out attacks people until just recently... he is sort of like mini-Rampage... or is it the other way around? Really though the parrot thing has gotten out of hand lately, and I am glad other posters are finally catching on to the way you two have been purposely making posts to draw attention and illicit attacks.

You need to THINK before you make posts anymore - the last couple weeks has slowly seen you transform into a troll... you stopped contributing anything useful in this thread and I have no idea why. You just say things in a way to provoke people to attack you.

You hide your valid points, in attention generating insults like the Tomas Jane = gay thing... seriously other people already expressed displeasure with Rampage doing it, and he backed off and explained himself. Your opinion is one of the better ones; you should really just lay off the attention seeking insults and nonsense.

You should read the post above as it appears to apply to you as well... when people who aren't even that keen on Jane's performance are getting irritated with you, and are happy to see Ray step up - then you really are a troll, 'cause you certainly aren't just upsetting people who disagree then.

Im hardly on TJ's nuts... matter of fact The Punisher is the only movie ive ever seen him in. Apparently youve seen him in some gay movie and now youre hating on him cuz he took the role, thats what actors do ...(How in the hell did you find that clip anyway... I wonder what you typed into the search bar actually no i dont wanna know)... Im a Punisher fan and Im happy with what TJ did, I dont care what you think about him. But you constantly posting about why he was bad is getting very repetitive...so yea lets get back on subject, I liked what Ray Stevenson said in the email, he seems to know what he's doing.

I think that RS will be a great Punisher, I think anybody who has watched ROME will know just how good of a actor he is, and knowing that he is working very hard to get into shape and studying the comics to understand the character, I can't wait to see this movie.

It is to bad that TJ didn't return, I liked him in his film and I would have like to see him get another shot at the character, but RS will be as good if not better.

Just to clarify a thing or two, the whole "gay pic contest" was intended as just a joke and also partially to demonstrate how - on an average day - STEVENSON looks much more "badass" and Punisher appropiate than THOMAS JANE.

One user asked me to "play again," so I did. It pretty much ended there for me and this thread should have died a long time ago. Some people took it a little too seriously and/or chose to keep bumping this thread up with comments even after the initial discussion had ended, for the most part.

I never discredited JANE's performance. Though I don't think he gave the "definitive" Punisher performance as some might believe, I think he easily could have had he been in an entirely different film.

THOMAS JANE is probably my second favorite actor working in movies. His performances in STANDER, BOOGIE NIGHTS, 61* and THURSDAY are all great, and in my opinion, better showcases of his acting talent than his work in PUNISHER 2004. I'm also very much looking forward to THE MIST, KILLSHOT, & THE MUTANT CHRONICLES.

I'm still pissed he didn't get to do RUNNING SCARED. Would have been so much better and more watchable with him in it.

All that aside, that doesn't mean I don't think an actor like RAY STEVENSON.....or somebody like.....SEAN BEAN wouldn't have been better choices for the Punisher.

The whole "pic contest" was really only meant to be taken as light hearted jokes about TOM JANE's look. Not his acting.

Personally, I think RAY STEVENSON is the best thing to ever happen to the Punisher on film.

I agree with you 100%. It was breathtaking watching Stevensons perfomance in Rome. He was brilliant (and that is a word I generally only use with people like Jack Nicholson and Jimmy Stewart). He can portray both crazyness and sympathy.

The only downside is I just don't think he will ever top Rome. But one can hope. He has become my favourite of the "not so known" actors.

He will never be one of the well-known actors, but he sure as hell got my respect and I prefer him over Thomas Jane.

Hey Cool J why don't you wait to see the film. The cast is what it is, we have a director, nobody is stopping production for some hysterical fan so let's just wait and see. Hopefully it'll be good. If this film was still up in the air then your arguments would be worth talking about but it's not really. It's moot.

Is this Tom Jane? LOL No star is bigger than the character. These characters make the stars out of the actors. Not vice versa. I'd rather not have established start force feeding his demands and input when it's not wanted. Giving these roles to hungry up and coming actors looking to rise to the next level is a good thing.
