The Stones were the first band i ever got into, i dug out my bro and sisters old record player when i was 15(only one speaker working), and found 'Beggars Banquet' was one of their records they's left behind. I put it on and 'sympathy for teh devil' was the 1st track, i remembered it from a movie i saw when i was a lot younger aclled 'The Jericho mile' about a prisoner who wanted to get released to run in the olympics. I was hooked from then on, got recordings of compilations from a friend and then the following xmas got my 1st stereo with 'Exile on Main st'(my brother's choice for me, he bought me the stereo) and 'Goats head soup'(my choice).
I'd rank my fav stones albums thusly:
1. Exile on Main street
2. Beggars Banquet
3. Sticky fingers
4. Let it bleed
5. Goat's Head soup
6. Their Satanic Majesties Request
7. The Rolling stones(1st album)
8. Aftermath(have not heard this in many years, had my copy stolen)
I have things like 'Black and Blue' and 'Steel Wheels' but only rank a couple of songs from them, 'Beast of Burden'; 'Waiting on a Friend'; 'I can always hear you sigh'; 'Slipping Away'.
I've heard 'Emotional Rescue' but have only liked about two songs from it, I've always been meaning to get ahold of 'Some Girls', heard it a couple of times at my friends house, sounds like their last classic album.
'Undercover of the night' is one helluva track and the last song they did that I think holds up to their 60's and early 70s work.
There is a Stones concert film someone sent me last year that is amazing, 'Ladies and Gentlemen..The Rolling Stones', that for some reason was only ever released on home video in Australia. It covers songs from 'Exile' 'Sticky Fingers', 'Let it bleed' and some early ones, truly the Stones at their peak. Mick Taylor's slide guitar playing on 'All Down the Line' has to be seen to be believed, it's a shame Richards and Jagger didn't give him enough credit on songs or else he would've hung around longer.
I never get tired of listening to 'Exile', i listen to it all the time.
