SAW V lost out to High School Musical 3. It ends SAW's four year reign as the number one film in October. But I'm not surprised in all honesty because I had a feeling this would happen since a family friendly movie was out.

But SAW V taking the number two spot isn't bad and it's already made it's budget back anyways. So it's all good.

Of course this gives the Disney fanatics and the SAW haters something to brag about since they're insecure about themselves and their favorite films.

@Lazlo- Sometimes they do hire the actors back for a particular scene. However, most of the time the director(s) film quite a few scenes and just restore it to save money. That's one of the reasons why these films are so cheap to make because it's mainly flashbacks and they can just put those scenes back in.

As for the sixth film? Hoffman hasn't been tested and I believe we'll see his test in SAW VI.

Is anyone up for another theory? What if Strahm isn't dead? What if this is just a nightmare sequence? I know it's a longshot but I have a hard time believing they would just kill him off like that after one movie. I mean Eric's character lasted three movies. We never received any kind of backstory of Strahm and it would've been nice to see. As I said, we know he was married because he had a wedding ring. But what a slow and painful way to die though.

Nah, I believe he's dead. He was a cool character, but there is no way he's coming back.

Cryptic I think I've figured it out. Here's something that I thought about and I think I'm right on this honestly.

I know you've seen this already but watch it and read the spoiler at the bottom.

SAW III and IV were happening at the same time obviously, so I imagine V is taking place immediately after the events of SAW IV. Hoffman becomes paranoid that his his secret of being Jigsaw's apprentice is out and he's trying to eliminate all threats. Well when you think about it, he wouldn't have had time to go to the morgue where Jigsaw's autopsy was happening.

So he's busy trying to eliminate any threats to his secret and once he's done that he feels he has escaped. Since he is "the last man standing" it makes sense with the tape Jigsaw left. "Are you there detective? If so it's probably because you are the last man standing. Then perhaps you will succeed where the others have failed."

"By hearing this tape some will assume that this is over, but I am still among you. You think it's over just because I am dead. It's not over. The games have just begun.

I'm thinking the autopsy scene will be the opener of SAW VI.

Yeah, I think you're absolutely right on this one. I was kind of thinking the same thing, because the events of V, happen right directly after III/IV. The autopsy has to be the beginning of VI. Jill's box will come into play.

I wonder how many kids bought tickets to HSM3 just so they could sneak into Saw V.

There is still at lot of things to answer for in the Next Saw Movie.

1. What was in Jill's box that John left for her?

2. WHAT EVER HAPPEND TO DR. GORDON. I don't care if he is dead just explain what happend to him.

3. Who sent Hoffman that note that says "I know who you are"

4. And FInally what was in amanda's letter that made her lose it.?

I don't know honestly. I'm employed at a theater and every Friday and Saturday we have cops there. However, for the last two nights they have been checking tickets and the managers have been checking tickets to make sure no one sneaks in.

But there were still a lot of people in both showings and I saw some parents bring their two year olds for SAW V.

my theories?
1. John said that upon his disappearance Hoffman would be outed for being a Jigsaw impersonator. i think that maybe that was part of what was in that box for Jill. I think she will be somewhat of one of "the good guys" in the next one, in that she helps bring down Hoffman. although i doubt her motives are going to be totally pure. :o

2. I really doubt Gordon's coming back, and all these people talk about, "oh if they ended it with Gordon being the ultimate apprentice or something that would be awesome!", when really, i mean, that's about as predictable as it gets. In my opinion i think the film makers just kinda shot themselves in the foot (heh, foot injury pun not intended) by not really mentioning him. They should have just come right out and said, okay, he's dead, rather then let the audience hold on to some suspicion that he survived. i would love to see him back, dont get me wrong, but he lost the game, and although Jigsaw's not a murderer he does play by the rules, and all he has to do is drag Gordon back to the room on his leg stump and leave him in there to bleed to death. game over.

3... okay, im gonna split this post in to a two parter. this is becoming a wall of text. :o

okay, theories part dos:
3. honestly, let me say right off that bat that i have no ****ing idea. im not sure if they wanted us to think it was strahm, but it definitely appeared otherwise. just about everybody who knows about him is dead, and jill, im pretty sure, didnt find out until she got the box. my theory, and this may be a wild one, is the real estate chick. y'know the one that seemed faaaar too calm during the entirety of the game. i think she knows a helluva lot more then what she lets on. she basically controlled the game. i mean, the one person she outright killed was the most unpredictable person in the room. the junkie could basically easily be manipulated so he was kept around. also, the theory gets just a taaaad wilder... but i thought she looked a bit like amanda. maybe family or something. longshot. but i thought it was interesting. anyways, i refuse to believe that this test was just to make people involved in real estate pay for burning down a building. jigsaw made it seem much more important when he gave hoffman the mission.

4. im pretty sure someone mentioned before that the director said in one of the commentaries that it will never be shown word for word. he said, you basically get the most important parts: hoffman wrote it, amanda read it, she loses it. i think basically it was hoffman telling amanda that there was another apprentice other then her. he wanted to make her fail. he wanted to push her over the edge. remember he told jigsaw, "amanda will fail you." i think hoffman just wanted to make it a sure thing.

I think this was the most impressive opening for a Saw movie in my opinion. I mean, it's the fifth film, it had a big rival to deal with (Not sure if the others had a competitor) and it still made 30 million. Very good.

SAW V lost out to High School Musical 3. It ends SAW's four year reign as the number one film in October.

The first film was never number 1, highest it got was #3.

The more I think about it, the more I love this movie.
III, the most thematic and emotionally driven of the series seems to be the least popular around here, which makes me glad to be in the minority since that has most of what I love the series for and it's easily the most epic and climactic of the series. I'm starting to like V more than II since the trap house is handled so much better, and although I love Shawnee's performance in II, she's not actually fleshed out until III. We get to know the apprentice better in V than we did in II.

Right now, I'd say my series ranking is III, I, V, II, IV, the middle three are sort of interchangeable, I could go back and forth with them, with III being the best and IV being the weakest by a large margin. Based on the traps, I'd actually say IV surpasses II by quite a bit, but it bugs me how incomplete and unfocused it feels, SAW II atleast tells a complete story rather than being a trailer disguised as a full length feature.

That's exactly my ranking too. Complete agreement.

When i went and saw this Friday like 6 or 7 lil kids came in and sat right in front of me after the movie done started. I got so damn pissed

SAW II had to deal with Zorro, that's about it.

This is only about $1 million less than the SAW IV opening, and with next weekend being Halloween, it's likely to have stronger legs than SAW IV, which was smashed by American Gangster in week 2.

with the strong success of both HSM and Saw this weekend i would like to be the first to propose a crossover movie. :D $$$ CHA-CHING!

I have a feeling HSM3 will be number one again next weekend, despite it being Halloween.

I SAW SAW V .

My advise...Stop it! There is nothing to continue about since Jigsaw is dead. Is simply irreplaceable.

I have a theory on what's in the box John left for Jill.

Remember when he first confronted Hoffman he explained how he had information on him that could literally destroy his life. I think it involves evidence and he left it to Jill in order to keep Hoffman in check, should Hoffman become more sadistic with his traps and so forth. Unfortunately I think it will possibly lead to Jill testing him or maybe one final apprentice that Hoffman doesn't know about.

I also believe Gordon has to be alive or will be seen in some fashion. I'm not trying to get anyones hopes up and believe me, I had low expectations of Gordon returning in V anyways. But for those who talk about Jigsaw let him bleed out? While he did fail his test, he also kind of passed it since he cut his foot off and managed to escape the bathroom. Jigsaw kind of betrayed his own rules with Eric. Eric got out of the bathroom despite failing his first test and it should've counted as him passing regardless.

For Gordon not to be involved then how do you explain all of Jigsaw's medical supplies in III? How do you explain the figure in the beginning who limped and managed to surgically place a key behind Michaels eye? How do you explain Rex/Morgans trap with the use of steel rods through vital arteries? I simply do not buy Hoffman, Amanda, or even Jigsaw managing to do all of that without it being suspicious. I can't see Hoffman or Amanda getting all of Jigsaw's medical supplies without it looking weird, I can't see Hoffman, Amanda, or Jigsaw having enough medical knowledge to do traps where a doctor is pretty necessary.

One thing I'm kind of lost about.

Erickson said a dozen bodies were pulled from the abandoned building and two of them were cops? Is the abandoned building he's talking about from SAW 1 and 2? Both games were happening in the same place now. But two of them were cops?

I assume Erickson was talking about the building in SAW III? He said over a dozen bodies and I made a list. The Judge, Timothy, Amanda, Lynn, Jeff, Danica, Eric, Rigg, Jigsaw, and Art. That's eleven bodies but he said over a dozen, so there had to be more bodies in that building then. So is it possible they may've returned to the original scene where everything took place? Especially since we know Sing died and they acknowledged that Tapp died. So you have Obi, Gus, Jonas, Xavier, Addison, Adam, Laura, and Zepp accounted for in terms of being dead.

Total of 19 bodies so far and Dr. Gordon has yet to be accounted for. They could've easily said we found another doctor who went missing as well. So I am going to assume they either intend to bring him back or show what happened to him in six.

Every other trap had already been investigated by the cops since the third, fourth, and fifth film. So as I said, something isn't adding up here and I am going to assume that the victims of the trap in 5 were tied to the property that Hoffman lived on. When they mentioned eight people were in that house that burned down? I was thinking Addison, Adam, Zepp, Xavier, Gus, Jonas, Obi, and Laura. That's eight who we know died in the house in SAW II.

Bump. Now we can discuss the six alternate endings that Hackl said he filmed. He said all of them lead into SAW VI. But be sure to read what I posted about my theories and so forth.

If they make one movie that could kill off both franchises at once...I would pay for that.

I think High School Musical 4 if they keep the newbies from HSM3 could very well kill off HSM. They were horrible. :(

I would agree there. This also opened a week earlier. I thought it was a suprisingly strong opening for the fifth in a horror franchise. I don't think Saw is played out but I was afraid most people would. They do need to end it with six though.
