That's all well and good; but you've got two orphans with unexplained superpowers ---- one who runs faster than a fighter jet in flight, and the other who's a witch. Despite this being set in an evolving superhero universe, audiences will still wonder who, how, what, where, when and why. They're not going to accept "they were born this way."

I'm quite happy for those questions to be left unexplored initially, not tying down who their father is, or their origin, leaves doors open should Marvel studios decide to use them further down the line.

One way to handle it would have the mystery be an unfinished, but specifically acknowledged, plot point. Maybe part of Wanda and Pietro's own arc is achieving trust between themselves and the Avengers ( and possibly SHIELD ), with the end result including the Avengers and/or SHIELD offering to help them find out about their parents and origins. That would set it up as a continuing mystery, but one that still serves the plot of this movie without needing to be resolved.

Okay, but you guys are needlessly overcomplicating the origin story of these new characters when I'm positive that Joss' aims (heh...pun) here are to simplify them. We'll see how everything turns out, but I think that audiences --- especially kiddies --- will find it much easier to follow the Magneto Von Strucker and SHIELD/HYDRA Ultron angles than these multi-layered scenarios and extraneous characters y'all are coming up with.

Whedon could simply explain that the twins were orphaned young and bounced from home to home without ever addressing their parentage in a more specific manner. Their mother died in childbirth (a la Madeline Joyce Frank) and their father was unknown or ran off (like Bob Frank). Boom! End of mystery.

To my mind, the part in bold shuts down the mystery angle altogether. All Whedon would need to do is explain that their biological mother died when they were infants and the father is unknown/dead. Better yet, Joss could turn things upside-down by putting the emphasis on the twins' mother rather than focusing on the cliched "daddy issues" they had in the comics. Expand upon the background of Magda/Madeline, make her the source of their powers in some way. Magic or the High Evolutionary's experimentation could easily substitute for the "bad dad corrupted them" story. It also would serve to further distance Marvel's version of Wanda & Pietro from the Fox copy.

Waiting until the third or fourth movie to reveal everything makes sense because AOU is already crowded. The GA is used to waiting for sequels to finish a story so I can't imagine they will balk at it.

Here's a thought: if you wanted to go with the Inhuman angle, and if Wanda and Pietro go over well in Avengers 2, you could use them as the protagonists of an Inhumans movie. They go out seeking their true heritage, and why they have these extraordinary powers. . . and they find it.

Just dump some gamma on them and say it gave them powers :o

Olive Witch sounds like someone who magically dispenses olives.

Careful, you'll give Marvel Comics ideas.

Her catch phrase could be "oi luv witch". And then she beats the tartar sauce out of everyone

It would be preferable for Strucker and HYDRA to operate as a sort of anti-SHIELD in that the villainous organization also seeks out "gifted" people, but with the goal of exploiting or enslaving them. The ludicrously-named "Centipede" in Agents of SHIELD is essentially doing this. (Why they called it Centipede* instead of using HYDRA baffles me.) It would make sense if the ex-Nazi's scouts heard of these gifted children and captured them so that he could force them to commit acts of terrorism for HYDRA. Strucker would be a cruel master rather than some sort of pseudo-father figure to the twins. That would be a good analogue to the way Magneto treated Wanda & Pietro in the early days.

* Centipede motto: "Cut off our ass and we'll grow another!"
Centipede is not the actual name of the organization, it's just what SHIELD refers to them as for obvious reasons.

wouldnt it make sense to have the mind gem involved with this one?

Zod I hate that name. It always makes me think of the human centipede

The only people I have personally run into that MUST know EXACT details on a origin are comic fans, or even fans on this board.

The Casual comic fans or just those fans that are only fans of comic movies who I know personally express to me that to them "being born that way"=Genetics =mutant. They consider one the definition of the other. In my opinion, of all the things to possibly complain about, I would bet the general audience is not going to care if that's their power source IMHO.

I need to add, they know enough that Superman is an alien, but thanks to what they learned in the X-Men movies, being "born gifted" and you are human based, that makes you a mutant.
