That's why I wrote "but in Hollywood ..."!
Remember how quick Singer got his job or how quickly Nic Cage was out of the suit even though the movie was ready for principal photography the next day?
Those WB guys are clueless as for what they want. If it's option A or B they usually go for C. Their like Singer, every day at work is an adventure.
I think I remember reading that cage quit before burton was even let go, something about cage hating the direction the film was headed.
anyone else remember that??
I just love it when people go around spouting opinion as fact. I for one, overall, liked Superman Returns. As with any movie there were a few things I had to take with a grain of salt, but overall, I enjoyed it and I for one do NOT feel as if Bryan gave me the finger. On the contrary, I feel as if I still owe him thanks for finally bringing Superman to the big screen in a way that was traditional and paid homage to the old movies and the comics, instead of all the tripe that was going around in the 90's and early 00's regarding a Superman movie.
THANK YOU BRYAN SINGER!
I look forward to his next installment.![]()
As a Superman fan, I like the movie too. However, I must be honest with myself in noting that I strongly feel Singer could have, and SHOULD have, added more action to the movie.
I really think that Bizarro would have been a good villain for the Return. He would never make a good "Front line" villain, like Luthor or Brainac. However, Bizarro would be an excellant Flunky for Luthor. I know we saw something similar in the Reeves sereies #4, but this is supposed to be a revamp, excluding 3 & 4 of the Reeves series.
Bizarro has always been a stupid villain. However, he is making a bit of a comback in popularity and would be great. However, he would NOT be a good front villain.
Basically, people want to see Superman as the "CHAMPION ASS KICKER" that he is, not the Mild Mannered "daddy" that Singer made him to be. Nice idea, just try it with someone else besides Superman.
The more I think of it, the more I REALLY am not convinced that Singer is still the man for the job. I just dont think he is the type who can do a REALLY good action movie. He's more suited for "lifestyle" type movies.
They won't make an actual decision until they read at least the first draft of the screenplay, which won't be done til beginning of 2008. We've got some time to wait. And even if they did like the JL script, I doubt it will actually be made until at least the batman franchise is done.
No. Horn knows there was no real interest from the GA for a sequel from SR's performance, and probably from exit polling. So the fact is he has a good JL Script that he knows will deliver the goods, and he has a sequel to a movie that disapointed, and was not the tentpole they needed it to be. I think he is going to take a look at it, but I don't see how Singer can do it for cheaper than SR with a Super Villain. I honestly think he will go with the JL Script.Thats what my previous statement basically said. Horn confirmed it....he wants to wait to see a script and what direction they will be going with the SR sequel before he greenlights anything. He wants the budget to be no more than 175 million.....which all sounds good to me. Horn is being smart.
Also from what Spacey has said it seems he has been under the assumption that the sequel will be out around 2009 and that he has seen a draft and he will be ready to go as Lex. So we can safely assume that Dougherty and Harris are working on the sequel screenplay as we speak.

Well exit polls had the WB telling Burton they did not want him working on a third Batman after Batman Returns. Studios take them differently than elections do.I don't know if the JL script has any more merit than a sequel at this point, they are both risks from a business standpoint. In regards to Exit Polls, they really don't tell you much, they both had John Kerry and Al Gore winning the elections. Look where that got them.

I doubt he has seen a draft. This is more of a commitment for a friend type of thing.
Well we all know that Gore actually did win the election... But that's neither here or there.
Yep... Agee 100% I actually don't think we will ever see a SR sequel but to avoid re doing the origin again so soon I do think we will get a new actor in the suit for the JLA movie, and the SR sequel will be put in development hell.
Where it belongs... They are already pushing it off the 2009 date which has been set in stone for almost a year now by Singer.
The WB LOST A Lot of money on SR, and has not really turned a profit with the movie, and this is why Horn said "IF" a sequel is made the budget would have to be lower.
The people who run the WB (Horn, and others) usually have to fall flat on their face before they see that they were wrong, anf they fix things.
This is how we got a good BATMAN BEGINS after 2 terrible Batman movies, and a terrible Catwoman movie.
The fans, and the mass public spoke loud at the boxoffice when it ignored SR, and saw other movies, and the message they had for the WB was that they didn't like the direction they took, and the people who they picked for the new Superman movie, and now that the WB has fallen flat on it's face maybe they can (To quote BATMAN BEGINS) "Pick them self's up."
The only way they can is by pushing the sequel off, and off until nobody can do it, and they just tell Singer, and company that they are going in a different direction.

What makes you think it is going to take until the beginning of 2008 to get a 1st draft of the Returns sequel.

And I was a apart of that Batman Returns exit polling. I remember the questions on it.

I thought pre-production was pushed off to early 2008. The script is supposed to come in fall/late 2007 I think. If Horn is really taken by JL he is not going to be able to wait that long for a script. I don't understand why the script was not ready by now. In January the htree were tossing around ideas. It may come back to bite them.
why did WB be the one who wait? why didn't WB take the pro-active role?Dougherty wrote and directed a movie. Last I heard he was looking over the scoring of the film just before the announcement about the script was made. Maybe Singer and Harris were waiting for him to start actually writing it.
