Build isn't Hamm's problem.

His age and height are negatives.

I definitely wouldn't want him as Superman. He's a mediocre choice in the looks dept. I'm glad he's being looked at so early. It would be troubling if WB looked at him several months from now.

You have to take into account genetics as well, some people no matter how hard they work out they don't bulk up, they just got slim and ripped, some others bulk up but without any definition

I have no idea if this pic is real BTW

He could improve but you can see he has broad shoulders, and good defined muscles that could get bigger

Jon on the other hand has a very average built

Sorry, I just don't see him as an imposing Superman (he does has a really good voice)

And my choice:

Your forgetting about the Steroid and HGH factor running rampant in Hollywood these days.....not as bad as the drug and pill popping epidemic though.

Exactly. Logic here is that the so called actor must be buit already. While a real actor with talent couldn't possibly gain weight and get in shape. It's impossible.

Its not only that, sure a "real" actor could bulk up, but working out its not the only factor, genetics are involved to, some people just don't bulk up that easily or in a nice way.

Its the same assumption, that a less know actor couldn't preform well under the right guidance

Or that a "real" actor could preform poorly if he doesn't feel the part or under the wrong guidande

Even if he bulk out, My problem is in his face

I see him as a 50's squinted eye Superman, not a 2010 representation of the mythos

Hamm as Bruce Wayne or Bond, a great choice, as Superman, there is something missing... maybe his acting skills are great, but simply don't see him in the blue tights.

Build can always be worked on, hence why I'm okay with choices like Armie Hammer and Harmon Walsh etc, who have the height, decent facial resemblence but not anywhere close to the Superman build yet.

I remember a guy from the past being considered too skinny genetically to achieve the Superman build... and nowadays

Bottom line is build can be worked on. Height and facial resemblence can't... unless you resort to camera tricks, CG and movie magic.

But it's easier to bulk up than to learn to act. Plus, only fanboys will notice if an actor is bulked up in the wrong way. As long as he's sufficiently muscular the GA will be happy.

For those concerned about an actor pulling off both Superman and Clark, here is the difference in posture between the two.

We need an actor who can make that transformation, like Reeve.

Routh was not "skinny genetically", even when he was skinny, you can tell he had a Mesomorphic body type

You'd be surprised how many posters on here thought the opposite and launched into endless debates over it.

well well i was away during the whole jonah/tv star being looked at news first broke. Its interesting rumor for sure. But like i said in the nolan thread i am very curious to see how they will end up casting clark/superman this time. There is many ways they can ultimately go. From going to a complete unknown, to someone working on tv, to someone who done a few films but name hasnt blown up, to soemone not quite a list but is a solid b list actor doing tv shows to films. So i could see it going to someone like a levi/ryan mcpatrin also from chuck, to scott porter, to even ultimately someone like ryan reynolds is for green latern. Hopefully they will end up with a solid pick and he will play the role to justice.

physically...i think McPartlin is the best choice. great face, great body, great voice...however, i haven't seen him in a serious role (he's only ever done goofy tv roles) so i have serious doubts about his acting range. he seems like a cool enough guy in his interviews but that doesn't necessarily mean he can handle the scenes that need emotional gravity.

so for now, i still think the best overall choice is Cavill.

We all want that, even if the chosen one isn't one of my picks, if he does the role justice, and it turns out to be a great movie with possible sequels I wouldn't bass it just because of the actor

(I want WB to think of Superman as a big profit maker)

as interesting as it would be to have an older superman. I dont really think 40 something is what they will go with. Sure maybe if this is just a one shot film for now with the whole legal issues. But realistically they are probably wanting to do at least a 3 picture deal. So that is why i still say we are more then likely going to see someone in 25-35 yrs old range then 39-45 range.

I really doubt that WB is viewing this movie as a one picture deal, they need a franchise, Just as SR was, a three picture deal.

the only way this is gonna be a Solo story, is if it fails at the BO

So I agree with you, WB is not casting for a movie, they are doing a 10 year long contract, with whoever they chose

totally i doubt its a one film deal, that is why i dont think we would see someone like fox or hamm in the role. I still say casting will probably be like gl looking for folks in mid 20s-early 30s. Then we will probably end up with a few unknowns in the mix some mid known guys, and then a RR type of person who is throw into the mix at the end of it.

I don't think WB would be apposed to casting someone in their late 30's early 40's as long as they look youthful for their age.

Im saying Nick Zano. Hes a TV star, and he looks an awful lot like Supes.

I agree. I may be totally wrong, but my thinking is after reading all the articles, is that they will have a one shot superman film that they use to set up some type of team up film (JL WF) and then use the same actor playing Supes in the reboot, in the other film or films as well.

The Flash and W.W. are supposedly in the works also, and I think they will get the same sort of treatment, they will also be used to set up the JL film.

Now, the JL film could be totally separate, and use different actors, but That would be an extremely stupid thing to do, so I think all these films from now on will be used to set up the League, little hints in them along the way and such.
The head man himself said he wanted a JL film, so it will probably happen.

Even if they make a sequel to Superman, they wouldnt have to wait 4 or 5 years to do it, and an older actor would still be good to go for it.

I remember hearing this guy's name mentioned on here. I like his look, but I've never watched Tru Blood.

Hehe, oddly enough Hamm reminds me of Patrick Warburton in that clip.

Sure, I could vote for Zano.

He looks a bit like everybody. Really. There's a little Brad Pitt, Sam Worthington, Dean Cain etc...
