New Ledger has a short post about Hamm for Superman, and he makes a worthwhile point. Link below.

Part that caught my attention:
"The challenge with filming Superman in a cynical age is that we’re no longer impressed by what was once amazing. A man who lifts things and flies around for two hours? Everybody does that.
While Hamm is a serious actor who might find it difficult to transition to the realm of fitted bodysuits and red undies (for the ladies), he could prove to be a much better Kent than Kal El, adding a depth to the experience of a man living out of his own world, lonely and unknowable."
And this is why I love the idea of an older Superman. The focus returns to Clark and that ultimately, Superman is first and foremost Clark Kent and not Superman. Loeb and Sale captured that so well in For All Seasons, and that is something that a casting choice like Hamm can pull off (with the right script, of course).
Sure, Superman is buff and strong, but so is every generic superhero. I'd prefer Nolan focus more on the man behind the cape -- and give us someone who may not strike us at first as Superman but in fact is. Superman isn't supposed to be some massive bodybuilder (a reason I hated Ed McGuinness' Superman). The George Reeve/Fleicher Superman wasn't the Incredible Hulk, and neither is Alex Ross'. That's the more classic Superman -- more a slightly big linebacker than Fabio.
And based on these rumors, that's what I really think the "twist" here is. It's that this film is not necessarily just about big-muscle Superman; it's more about the life of Clark Kent and fleshing out his side of the character coin.
That would certainly be a twist to the story that's been done in the comics, but not on the big screen. It's also what Nolan/Goyer did with Bruce in Batman Begins and TDK -- we saw the world from Bruce Wayne's perspective and less from Batman's, and of course, Nolan has blown away some of our highest expectations.
As the New Ledger rightfully points out, an actor of Hamm's caliber can pull this next dynamic off, and will be much more convincing on-screen. I'd love to see that Superman. Alex Ross' drawing below, old gut and all
