Thanks

He is an actor and people who think they will picture "Kirk" don't give him enough credit at his craft. I really don't care if he is well known for that role, doesn't affect how I would see him as Superman if he makes that role his own too.

I dont mind that he's also Kirk, mostly because i'm not really a Star Trek fan though lol.

You'd be surprised the reasons people come up with not to cast someone. If the reason isn't "acting" or "look" then you are just being a pain lol.

I like a lot Kevin Durand but I would prefer him as Lobo or maybe as Martian Manhunter.

Kevin Durand is cool, but he also looks kind of like a psychotic, so nay to him as Superman.

But I'd be all over him for Lobo.

Guess who's on the cover of Parade Magazine this week? :-)
And of course, I thought I'd throw in a Superman Kingdom Come image from another thread. Come on DC/WB, Hamm is Superman.

Jon Hamm looks great on that cover, and while I know Showtime said that it's not likely he'll be cast, I'm hoping the WB will give the film to him for Nolan's Superman film (that is, of course, depending on whether Nolan wants to take it in this direction, which I've said is a great idea).

As much as I like Pine, he's Captain Kirk; also, he's too much of a pretty boy for the role. I'm not big on an Abercrombie-looking Superman. This is why I'd like to see an older Superman such as Fox or Hamm.

Finally, not big on Caviezel; that would lead to way too many headlines about the Christ reference, and I'm really hoping the Nolans take the movie away from that direction. The whole god thing can be used in script, but Singer clearly took it a little too far. Casting Caviezel would only make the marketing of the film more of a mess. Please no more Christ references.

Come on WB, give us the Alex Ross Superman :-)

Alex Ross Superman is a big imposing dude. John Hamm is not :oldrazz:

Hamm's a decent starting point for the Superman Casting, I'm just glad he won't be the end point.

Chris Pine manip, started out decent then I kind of screwed it up lol.

Aside for being completely wrong for Superman, Chris Pine AKA Captain Kirk is tied up with Paramount.

He won't be associated with this film at all.

From low angle Jon Hamm looks Alex Ross Superman so much, but it's not likely he''ll be cast because Jon Hamm is not from WB, right? The producers will choose their own actors from WB, but sometimes they heard us especially with some specific character like Superman/Batman. I'm saying that casting is b#%$$**t, usually the producers or director has their own favorite cast.

New Ledger has a short post about Hamm for Superman, and he makes a worthwhile point. Link below.

http://newledger.com/2010/07/jon-hamm-is-superman/

Part that caught my attention:

"The challenge with filming Superman in a cynical age is that we’re no longer impressed by what was once amazing. A man who lifts things and flies around for two hours? Everybody does that. While Hamm is a serious actor who might find it difficult to transition to the realm of fitted bodysuits and red undies (for the ladies), he could prove to be a much better Kent than Kal El, adding a depth to the experience of a man living out of his own world, lonely and unknowable."

And this is why I love the idea of an older Superman. The focus returns to Clark and that ultimately, Superman is first and foremost Clark Kent and not Superman. Loeb and Sale captured that so well in For All Seasons, and that is something that a casting choice like Hamm can pull off (with the right script, of course).

Sure, Superman is buff and strong, but so is every generic superhero. I'd prefer Nolan focus more on the man behind the cape -- and give us someone who may not strike us at first as Superman but in fact is. Superman isn't supposed to be some massive bodybuilder (a reason I hated Ed McGuinness' Superman). The George Reeve/Fleicher Superman wasn't the Incredible Hulk, and neither is Alex Ross'. That's the more classic Superman -- more a slightly big linebacker than Fabio.

And based on these rumors, that's what I really think the "twist" here is. It's that this film is not necessarily just about big-muscle Superman; it's more about the life of Clark Kent and fleshing out his side of the character coin.

That would certainly be a twist to the story that's been done in the comics, but not on the big screen. It's also what Nolan/Goyer did with Bruce in Batman Begins and TDK -- we saw the world from Bruce Wayne's perspective and less from Batman's, and of course, Nolan has blown away some of our highest expectations.

As the New Ledger rightfully points out, an actor of Hamm's caliber can pull this next dynamic off, and will be much more convincing on-screen. I'd love to see that Superman. Alex Ross' drawing below, old gut and all :-)

A depiction of Ross' out of shape Superman shown onscreen....would be laughable at best. :down

Im still holding out for Caviezel. I think he still has a good look to him.

If they went for an older Superman Caviezal would be the only choice for me, but I'd prefer him as Jor-El.

James Caviezel should have a cameo as Jor-El in the film.

Nicole Kidman should have a cameo as Lara Lor-Van in the film.

And of course Brandon Routh should play Superman/Kal-El/Clark Kent in the reboot.

 mucho agreed, I really want Brandon back.

Not sure about Nicole Kidman but its not exactly a role I'm too fussed about who is cast.

Well, if that's so, I hope you'll consider changing your signature to BRING ROUTH BACK!!!

That doesnt sound like something i'd be interested in seeing.
it sounds so.....boring.
We already had one film that didnt have enough superman, I dont want another.

An older superman, yes. An older, out of shape Superman, he11z no.
While alot of us may disagree on who they cast, we can agree on what we want to see, and I dont think that take on it up above there is it.

Hamm can certainly pull off the midwestern Clark Kent persona. If they do an older Superman, then he is the best man for the job IMO.

I think Caviezel is a better actor and certainly looks the part, more so than Hamm.

Hamm is 5'11 and Caviezel is 6'2.

I'm tired of Caviezel and Cavill being brought up all the time. Hamm would be a refreshing change of pace.

My new favorite for the role in the reboot is Tahmoh Penikett.
-He's 35
-He's 6'2 1/2
-He's a good actor.
-Fairly unknown to the general public.
-He's pretty big muscle wise.

Caviezel MAY be washed up,but hes still a terrific actor and a nice guy. I would be more than thrilled if he was the Man Of Steel.

ironic...cuz i'm tired of Hamm being brought up all the time :oldrazz: also ironic how Hamm is one of the oldest choices being talked about, yet you say he's a "refreshing change of pace", hehe

I honestly haven't heard of Hamm being considered until a few weeks ago. I've always heard of Caviezel and Cavill though.

i see...well, Hamm has been mentioned on these boards since Sept/Oct 2009, but it wasn't until Christopher Nolan was announced as producer that his name started popping up every other post.
