Well it's only the first shot of Superman. Maybe they're still debating on it, waiting for some fans opinions. I'm hoping that they'll put the trunks on.

I second this I can understand removing the trunks on one hand. but with how the suit looks, I personally think he'd look better with the trunks.

Actually, its a crater behind Superman. One of his legs is inside the crater. She is standing inside it.

No. Both feet are visibly not in a crater. It's just harder to see his left foot, but it's there, on the same level as his right one.

I think this is getting pretty close to exactly right. The only issue with this one is that the bottom left of the S goes straight into the side and does not curl up and end. See this one:

I think you'll find that the more you see of it in action, and used on promotional materials etc, you'll start to like it. Initially it seems off because its not what you're use to seeing. Its possible that after a while, you might look back at the "Regular" look of the shield, and dislike it compared to the new one. It's generally all about what you get use to seeing, change throws us all out at first.

Yeah, I was really turned off by the new shield. But the longer it lingered, the more I like it. In particular I admire the subtle approach to alter it from a stylized 'S', to a more alien-like hieroglyphic.

I will never come to like this shield. There were so many ways to tweak the classic shield or, even better, to just go with the classic shield. You know, the one that sells millions of dollars of t-shirts, hats, shoes, belt buckles, neck ties, coffee mugs, jewelry, posters, and...need I go on?

So far, I'm digging the Superman Returns shield FAR more than this one. The movie had many flaws, but the shield wasn't close to being one of them.

In all fairness, the difference isn't that big, the general audience won't care about the shield the same way they don't care about Batman's or Spider-Man's.

This is very much a tweak of a classic shield:

I'm with you on the SR logo. I quite liked it, though I much preferred the flatter-looking version that was on the suit rather than the bulging one that appeared on the teaser poster and other marketing.

I really dug the SR emblem as well. It's basically the classic emblem but streamlined and modernized:

Yep! Could've been a little less thick on the actual suit, but whatever...

I'm glad I'm not the only one who likes the SR shield.

Granted, it was way too thick on the suit, but the design was beautiful. A great update of the classic symbol.

I think they were able to get away with the thickness because of it's size. Could you imagine if it was as big as the MOS shield with the same thickness/rigidness? OY!
