The Official Superman Thread - Part 4

H'el sounds lame, but the story itself has potential. I'm intrigued

So does calling a villain Sinestro but we got over that decades ago.

Hahahaha That is true. As long as the story is good, im sure the name wont matter

I think it sounds interesting enough. I like seeing new villains introduced who have good potential. Supes can always use more villains from his home planet as long as they can explain their origin competently enough as to not conflict with established canon too drastically then I'm all for it but yea it does need to be more than just that it still actually needs to be a good story.

I agree completely. It sounds interesting, and Superman can always use new good villains. Its all up to the writers

And outside of Mike Johnson, the writers suck ass. :o

Which is why it will probably suck.

Don't look at the idea. The art. None of that matters if the guy writing it is a hack.

Unless you're into their work in which case you might like it.....crappy as it may in fact be. :o

Reserve judgement until the final product, and lower your expectations going in has always served me well. :o

I hope Lobdell surprises me with his Superman, but I don't think it's gonna happen. I really really don't.

I dont really have alot of expectations. I just think the story has potential to be good.

As for the writer behind it, i'm not exactly an expert on comics. I've been on and off of following them for a few years now.

I will say, there's a chance Lobdell's Superman could be good.

I mean, as much as 90% stuff sucks, Red Hood and the Outlaws is incredibly awesome. There's a very small chance he might catch lightning in a bottle with Superman too.

And DeFalco...I don't know why his Superboy sucks so bad. He was still an awesome writer up until this past year or so.

I'm hoping Lobdell will do good. Im not really familiar with his work, so this will be my first time reading his work. Hopefully he can make a fan out of me

I hope he's good too, the New 52 Superman has been massively disappointing. I could barely stand to read Action Comics...

I hate reading great comics too.

Action is definitely one of my top 5 of the New 52... or top 3... or 1, I can't decide. But unlike everyone else, I dug Perez's Superman. The Helspont issues after were OK. Then it was generally meh.

I haven't liked most of the "mainstream" New 52 comics much. I've liked Batman, Batman and Robin, Batwing, Batwoman, the Flash, and Wonder Woman...and I think that's it for the mainstream superheroes (I absolutely loved All-Star Western, Swamp Thing/Animal Man, Demon Knights, and Frankenstein, but those aren't really their "big" heroes). Books like Justice League, Superman, Action Comics, Detective Comics (and most of the other Bat-family ones, such as Nightwing, Batgirl, etc.), I have actively hated quite a bit.

That said, Superman was superior to Action Comics by far (mostly because there was a "mystery" involved), but can't say I've been crazy about it...

Pretty much all of the books you dislike oxide of Action ARE positively bad or mediocre, though.

Yeah, one of these things, doesn't belong here.....most of these things are kinda the same.

The only thing I didn't like about Action was how it took a bunch of different origins, and made them all connected. Metallo, Steel, and Superman all had origin stories within the same 6 issues. Sorta Braniac, too.

The main reason I didn't like that is because it means that half of the Death of Superman is scrapped. Irons becoming Steel because of Superman's influence and death added a lot to his character, and now that's gone.

Come on man, you had to know that all of the death of Superman (and pretty much most if not all of the Superman stuff pre nu52) was scrapped when they announced the reboot. All we know for sure is that he died, then he came back. The how and why has yet to be determined.

death/return of superman isn't very good anyways V_V

I wouldn't mind morrison briefly retelling the events in an alternate way

I knew most of it was gonna be scrapped, yeah. But we did know that he died at some point. Heroes rising up to take Superman's place? It's a fantastic image, and I think it should've remained.

Still could have, except Superboy didn't exist in the nu52 until after the fact, which we knew already. Steel still coulda showed up though, just wasn't his first time showing up. Eradicator too I guess. And I guess Henshaw is still around, seeing as Hal going Paralax is still in then that apparently still happened too.

It's why you can't pick and choose on the whole reboot thing. It screws everything up.

Actually even that is gone now as well. The Death of Superman for the most point never happened. They are starting to erase pre 52 Batman's history as well. The only one who history is still intact is GL (Hal).

Just do what I do, replace DC's crappy continuity with my own, vastly superior one :o
