I was just thinking today, whatever happened to the story arc where Superman goes back to krypton, as teased in the Zero issue? I thought that it was supposed to be coming up in Action but I just went through the Solicitation for the next couple months but it was nowhere to be found. Is it because Diggle was the one that was going to handle it and then he left action? He is even a promo picture

I don't think DC knows what to do with the book post-Morrison.

Such a shame. What should be DC's flagship title is often the one suffering the most turmoil.

From what I can tell, they know they want to keep Superman punchier than before. He's certainly less prone to bloviated speeches. The problem is everything else. No other book besides Justice League spotlights his relationship with Wonder Woman, the side stories aren't building up towards anything outside of themselves, and while it seems they want to introduce many new faces (and old faces in new ways), nothing memorable has sprung out from it. They need someone who could be to Superman what Geoff Johns was to the Green Lantern, but the closest thing to that somebody that they have just left to do other projects. Instead, we're getting familiar stories from aging writers that haven't taken full advantage of the clean slate the reboot offers. So they're slipping back to the same listless spiel that bogged Supes' books in molasses before. That's not going to drive sales.

At least, that's how I see it. I haven't completely read the satellite books, so maybe I'm absolutely wrong.

Diggle leaving Action Comics pissed me off a lot because I really loved the one issue that he did. It was like he was trying to capture what Morrison was trying to do with Superman by making him the champion of the people who can't fight for themselves but without bungling it with wonky Morrisonian concepts; the action felt more coherent, and we got to see more inside of Superman.

Well that is a bummer. I wonder what their plans for that particular story arc are now. That can't just ignore it because they already set up for it in the 0 issue. I am also disappointed because i was looking forward to Daniels drawing that suit. I wish it was the official suit, just blue.

The plain for that story line is the sequel to H-El on Earth. If you look at the ending of that story he made it back to Krypton before it exploded. So what is suppose to happen now is that both Superman and Superboy at some point and time will both travel back to krypton to stop him. Which is why he is wearing the black outfit instead of the blue.

Yeah, I remember H-el returning to krypton. Like 12 Years before the end of Krypton. I just wonder what kind of story can be told with H-el and Superman being on Krypton. I'd imagine that H-el would try and prevent Kryptons destruction, and what, Superman is trying to stop him? Superman wants the planet to blow? I suppose you can argue that Superman feels that one shouldn't change the past. Another thing is I wonder if they will explain H-el's true origin. Was he really from krypton and the story he told Kara was true? If so why do his powers on earth differ so much from Superman and Kara?

I have a question: That may sound silly, and I'm quite late about it, but I always thought Strazinsky had written Superman Grounded. And I read a few weeks ago something like "No it's not him it's me, said Robinson" If I remember correctly, the first issues were Strazinsky's and most of the rest was Robinson's.
I have difficulties to believe it, it has been marketed as "Strazinsky's job" but it's just ********, isn't it? Does someone care to explain and bring some light on this?

JMS was writing it but left halfway through to write Superman: Earth One II but left a skeleton to be filled in by his replacement.

Which was no big loss as Grounded was pretty dumb conceptually to begin with.

The bigger loss was JMS leaving Wonder Woman - personally, I think that could've been an awesome story if he had stayed on.

Did anyone else find Superman Unchained to be... not good? And that fold out poster/page was a huge pain in the ass.

The fold out poster/page was the only problem I had. I enjoyed the rest of it.

I didn't think it bad, necessarily, but nothing about it made me think "holy crap, I need to keep reading this book," which is how #1 issues should be.

For some reason, I have never been able to stay with a Superman ongoing for very long. Don't get me wrong, I think the character is great and I generally love him in team books, team-ups, mini series, and event books, but for some reason, his actual ongoings have never kept me hooked. I was hoping this would be the book.

But yeah, that damn poster thing.

I enjoyed the first issue of Superman Unchained but yeah the poster thing was f**king stupid.

I'm in agreement with most everyone here. Really good first issue, poster thing was just dumb. I kinda bent the thing trying to take it out, then as I was unfolding it, the book closed on me, so the page to the left now has that sticky residue all along the right side.

Bad idea that just wasn't worth all the trouble. I tried to find the image online, but couldn't find one big enough to read. If they do this again, I'm just leaving it in there and skipping that page.

If they wanted to do something like that, a simple foldout panorama would've been better. Those have worked in comics before. I remember a Wolverine comic from the 90s (the last issue before Age of Apocalypse) where he is fighting Sabretooth, and there are a couple of foldout pages, but none as awkward as the one in Superman Unchained.
