Eh, it seems like the rather standard practice of comics, someway or somehow, always reverting back to the status quo. Jimmy's problem is his original status quo sorta sucks. :o

Not that I'm trying to make excuses for anyone - Verheiden actually came up with an acceptable compromise with having Jimmy grow as a character, but still sorta remain in his "classic" role.

With DC's sidekicks, it really doesn't seem to be that way, if their history is any indication, IMHO. Dick Grayson and Tim Drake have grown and evolved as characters; as well as Roy Harper, Garth, and Donna Troy. And their growth has stuck pretty well for the most part.

Jimmy is, to a more down-to-earth extent, one of Superman's sidekicks. So why can't he get the same character development as the other heroes' partners, and make it last?

It just pisses me off seeing Jimmy as the ****ing ***** boy at the Planet again, getting people coffee and ****.

But with most of those, they've had someone step in and replace them. There's always a Robin no matter who's under the mask, there's always a Wonder Girl, or Speedy, or whatever.

With Jimmy...can you really replace Jimmy? Would you even want him to be replaced?

Like I said, I think Verheiden did it best; Jimmy was still Jimmy, he still served more or less the same role, but he wasn't the "coffee boy" anymore.

Actually, Dick Grayson grew and evolved as a character. Tim Drake has, as of OYL, grown and evolved into Dick Grayson. It's pretty irritating.

Wait...I like Dick Grayson and I didn't even know it. :wow:

And it was also a short period of time where he was not reduced to his sad status quo, so what are we debating about again?

Okay, yeah, you're right. My bad. :(

Jimmys backwards development obvioulsy has to do with superman returns. In returns as you all know, Jimmy was probblay like 24 years old, but seeminlgy acted like a young child, and had and obvious [obvious to me anyway] crush on Clark Kent. Now im not sure what Jimmys sexuality is in the new Singar movies, and Jimmy hasn't gotten much female sexual action in comics. None the Less is Jimmy Olsen needs a 21s century upgrade, because hes starting to remind me of George Michael from Arrested Devlopment.

Nothing, really. I was just adding my own thoughts on the matter. Simply put; it doesn't surprise me Jimmy would go back to his roots (IE: not the TV commentators job), but where Verheiden did it well, Johns and Donner are messing it up. :o

Jimmy was chasing around a short-skirted intern in Verheiden's run. :o

I think I'm going to avoid this and stick with Cooke and Sale's Superman book. There's just way too much hype around this book, and I've found more often times than not, that severly hyped books aren't as good as they're hyped up to be.

I totally forgot about Superman Confidential. I haven't added it to my list yet. I think I am going to wait and see.

Are you mad because Routh beat out Bale and Jackman for the best Superhero award for the Scream awards:oldrazz:

Now I don't see Routh in the pictures but I do however see the person who played Jason.

I like where Superman's eyes are super-imposed on the kid's body.

I always knew Bats wasn't the only pedophile.

That hair is infuriating. I hate it when Clark Kent is drawn like he's a f***ing 'tard.

How do you not see Routh?
I just don't I am sorry. I see his SR outfit but othr then that I don't see it. For me to say that is Routh it has to be drawn to look just like him. Other then that it is more the only thing being used from SR is the outfit which I thought was fine.

Well, Routh had pretty distinctive hair among the Superman actors. Same as if Clark were drawn with overgrown, tussled hair, I'd automatically think of Welling or if Superman were drawn with an infuriating lack of spit-curlage, I'd think of Dean Cain.

You guys know that Kubert is only doing 6 issues right? I hope woods comes back, but Geoff said the guy replacing him was born to draw superman.

I'm guessing its Dan Jurgans

Maybe it's John Byrne. He's still many people's favorite Superman artist, and he was there just after the Silver Age, so he'd kind of fit with Johns' "Silver Age or Bust" agenda.

Haha! If John Byrne did the second arc then it would be officially the ****test thing ever. That's the only thing I cna think of which could make me want to read Donner/Johns Superman less.

I don't know, if Byrne came onboard, I might be persuaded to give it a look. It might be entertaining in a kitschy, MST3K-movie kind of way--like watching a train wreck in slow-motion. :)

Man of steel is the one true origin in my opinion

I don't even care about Superman's origin at this point. It's enough for me that he'll always have been rocketed off from Krypton as a little kid and raised in Smallville by the Kents. The details no longer matter to me because I'm too lazy to keep up with all the changes.
