Gary Oldman to return in OOTP Gary Oldman's long-time manager Doug Urbanski sealed the deal this morning with Harry Potter producer David Heyman: the actor will reprise the role of Sirius Black in the Harry Potter and the Order of the Phoenix movie.

"I'm so relieved and happy," said Urbanski. "I can't put my mind in the place of the producers, but I would've thought that when they read the book, a call to us would've been very high on their list. Obviously, the character of Sirius Black is key."

Oldman's manager mentioned Oldman had been offered several different film roles in the time it took Warner Bros. to make a decision on the part of Harry's godfather.

Both Gary and manager are delighted with the highly anticipated outcome: "It's a wonderful role. Gary read the script last night, and he read part of it to me on the phone this morning. The end of the story is: Gary's in it. It's a terrific script, and he's so happy to be back."

GREAT NEWS! Sirius is hands down my favorite character in these books and Oldman was perfect in the role in 3 and would have been sorely missed in Phoenix.

BTW, I think that although this is the longest book, it will be easier to adapt than Goblet as much of this book focuses on emotion. Of course, I agree with others who would love the entire third act of the film (at least 45 minutes) be the Ministry events.

For the record, Phoenix is my favorite of all 6 books.

Very good news!

Oldman was perfect casting for the role, but wasn't in it for much. He has a much meatier role in the story this time around, and glad to see Oldman return for it. I couldn't picture anyone else.

I just hope the same actor for Lupin comes back. I don't want to have new people playing a character that has been in another movie. I'm most looking forward to Tonks.

it is coming out in 07 with number 6 in 08 if everything goes as planed. I am so excited about this. This weekened my friends and I are havein a Harry Potter marathon on his projection TV.

Umbridge is so perfectly casts, it's scary. I'm ****ing so damn pleased with the casting in these movies

Jamie Waylett updates blog The actor who plays Crabbe in the Potter films (including Order of the Phoenix) has updated his online blog with a few OOTP filming updates:

The new director is really good, he asks for our opinions on our characters a lot...I said I think Crabbe is a really good, kind guy... (only joking!)

I think "Harry Potter and the Order of the Phoenix" might even be better than "Goblet of fire"!

We've filmed a few scenes so far and we've been having a lot of fun as the baddies...pushing Neville around, mostly!

Me, Josh, Tom and some other Slytherins are Umbridge's favourite students, so it's great to make the Gryffindors uncomfortable for once!

We also got new dressing rooms and a games room, and since a lot of us don't have tutoring anymore we're enjoying it!

Another new interview with Rupert Grint has been posted at MTV.com where the actor discusses his second non-Potter film Driving Lessons. Rupert also briefly mentions filming on OOTP:

For now, he's knee-deep in shooting fight scenes for "Harry Potter and the Order of the Phoenix," due July 13, 2007. Grint's already wrapped the scene where he and Harry take on Malfoy's henchman Crabbe and Goyle in Umbridge's office, and he's currently in a weeklong stretch where Potter teaches an underground Defense Against the Dark Arts class to a group of rebel students calling themselves Dumbledore's Army (see "Harry Potter's 'Phoenix' Begins Rising Next Week"). These take place in the Room of Requirement, a magical room that becomes whatever you need of it. The students need to learn to fight, so they practice stunning, disarming and other spells on one another.

"I'm dueling Hermione," Grint said, "and I get thrown back a lot, which we do with me wearing a harness. We're doing quite a few stunts, but the really big fight scenes are coming up."

I hope they bring in Dobby again. I want Dobby the one telling Harry about the Room of Requirement, and then warning everyone Umbridge is coming. It'd be awesome. :(

I would love to see that, but I don't think it will happen. This is a large book and you saw what they did with GOF. The dementor attack is the main issue and that's what is going to be concentrated on. I'm guessing the film opens with the dementor attack, show title of film, and jumps to the trial and show flashback as harry is telling his story.

I think its been confirmed that the Dursleys and Dudley Demented are in it. Besides, Harry can't flash back his rescue from the Dursley's to the ministry during the trial. The opening few chapters are important for one major reason...It introduces THE ORDER OF THE PHOENIX. The title of the book and movie. Also, the flashbacks during the trial won't work as the trial is in large our introduction to the Ministry's attempts to destroy Harry and Dumbledore. Fudge wouldn't even let Harry talk during the trial, yet alone tell his side of the story.

Besides, OOTP may be a longer book than GOF, but in the narrative is far shorter than GOF. Much of OOTP is visual and descriptive or Harry's inner thoughts. THe inner thought is impossible to show on film and and the visual descriptions can be shown on screen without any time being used. The actual narrative to OOTP is probably about equal to Prisoner of Azkaban...at most just a bit longer.

I want OotP to be 3 hours long. :( With like, 20-30 minutes of deleted scenes. :o

This movie going to be the second short movie of all the 7 Potter movie´s.
Iam afarid that it don´t going be longer then 142 minutes.

Why:

The best book (Azkaban) get the worst and short movie.
The worst book (Chamber of secrets) get the best and longest movie.
This book is like the first and third book a book that explain much and is lesser dark in my opnion, but this book have much pages but is the beside´s the first book the moost esear to make then the other. I think that there yused Harry and the judge and Umbrdige.

But my opnion before there make Azkaban & Goblet of Fire that this movie must going to be 171-178 minutes, but from the third movie i always thaught a litle shorter then the second, like 155 minute´s (Cinema time) but it don´t happen and it whas 141 minutes (cinema time) but after people complane that the movie whas 15-20 minutes to short and with Goblet of fire people complane that it must be 30 minutes longer ,so Azkaban must be atleast 155 minutes and Goblet of fire 187 minutes. Funny about this is that the always shoter then people want after there have seen the movie,Azkaban whas 141 minutes but must be 155 minutes and Goblet of fire whas 157 minutes (cinema time),but it must be 187 minutes. So with expection that people complane that it must be 35-40 minutes longer when there have seen the movie,it going to be 143-148 minute´s,but it must be 178 minutes.

I hope that this movie going to be atleast 174 (cinematime),that means that it going to be 164 on R2 dvd and that means that the movie finished after 150 minutes,2 hour and 30 minutes, because the last 14 minutes (2 hour 30 minutes - 2 hour 44 minutes) are for the movie´s end titles.

So Warner please give us finaly 150 minutes of movie and make this fift potter movie alteast 174 minutes cinematime.

Chamber of Secrets was the worst movie of the same so far, which is not surprising seeing as how the COS book is by far the worst of the books. Hence the worst book = the worst film.

Worst? No HP book is the worst out of any. Philosopher/Sorcerer's Stone is the ... okay...worst movie, as it's just an introduction movie. We get into the knitty gritty in movies 2-7

I'm telling you, there is absolutely no need for a 150 minute movie. The narrative of OOTP is not longer than Prisoner of Azkaban. Probably 60 % of Order of the Phoenix is Harry's inner thoughts and visual descriptions.

But there's loads I want to see in the screen adaption. :( And 150 minutes is only 2 and a half hours. :o

Eh, it should at least be 2 hours and 30 minutes without the credits.

I know  God dammit I wanna see Dobby!

But you can see all that stuff in 2 hours. OOTP is very much dependent on Harry's inner thoughts and visual descriptions. 75 % of the chapters are made up of this. The entire book can be told in 2 hours time as Harry's thoughts will be left out and visuals can be shown, they don't have to be described.

I look forward to seeing Harry and George (I think it was George) beat up Malfoy after the Quidditch match. :o And Harry's repeated dream. And Ron drunk at the Ministry. :o

And I want 2 and a half hours at the least, dammit.

I gotta agree with Matt, alot of OOTP is Harry's thoughts and his emotions. How is pissed off with a lot of things etc I certainly don't think is going to be longest movie so far. It would have been nice for GOF to be extended, but OOTP doesn't need to be extended imo, if this movie clocked in at around 2 hours, I think that would be sufficient.

Two months ago we reported that Tony Maudsley was signed on for Order of the Phoenix. Now, Leaky has confirmed that Tony will be "playing" Grawp (Hagrid's half-brother) in the film.

Back in March, OOTP producer David Heyman said the following in an interview with Empire: "We’ve done some stuff involving centaurs and Grawp, who is Hagrid’s 16ft brother. The kids have to act against a lot of blue screen for characters like Grawp." From this we could assume that Tony will just be the voice of Grawp and not physically appear in the film, but this has not been confirmed yet.

You can see two pictures of Tony here and here.
